You're right about the feeling overwhelmed bit. I'm a skinny dude on a naked bike. Got up to 70 my first time on the motorway a few weeks back. Thought I was going to let go or the wind was going to throw me back off the bike. Scary shit. But you get over it damn quickly and eventually barely notice the wind.
Nice vid 👍🏻I’ve had a little motorway experience myself, took my examiner for a little jaunt on the M5 after taking the wrong exit on a roundabout on my MOD2 😂he wasn’t too happy 😆
I always tell my Wife, on a motorway, you have to drive all three lanes at once - you always need to know what is coming up in Lane 1, and how quickly you are closing on the vehicle in front; whilst also knowing what is coming behind you in Lane 2 and how fast, and if Lane 3 is clear (just in case the numpty in Lane 2 isn't paying attention when you pull into 2 from 1).
Great video. Going on a motorway for the first time tomorrow so very informative and a friend is chaperoning me. Love your videos. Easy to understand in plain english 👍🏍️
I'll tell you what buddy, I've watch quiet alot of your videos over the past year mod1 mod 2 really helped me pass 😀 I've been passed since Nov 2022 and obviously it's been winter ( still gone out although scared poo less) got a 750GS , and alot of the advice you gave was amazing, super and did I say brilliant. Just watching your motorway vid building up confidence to go on them , and your video is helping , if I ever see you about I'll defo get you a coffee pal keep up the tremendous work your helping and saving lives 👍
Thank you for that, having just past my mod 2 and now riding a Street Twin, I have yet to ride on a motorway, but listening to you, I will very soon, thank you.
Cool video man 👍 Your safety advice is just top notch, with masses of common sense on top....didn't think anyone used that anymore! Camera angle was great, especially for watching you doing your lifesavers. I think I need a little recording of you saying "mahoosive lifesaver" somehow connected to my indicator switch to remind me. Cheers once again dude, Adam 😁
Cheers, Adam. Appreciate that bud. That definitely made me LOL. Just got an image of bikers flying past with some Scottish dude shouting "Mahoosive Lifesaver". 🤣🤣
@@MotoEcosse Talking to yourself as you go around definitely helps, like "cancel indicators" but "mahoosive lifesaver" is the best, cheers, glad I gave you a giggle 😁
Learner drivers can go on the motorway, as long as they're accompanied by a qualified driving instructor (with a dual control car). Not sure abouts motorcyclist can, even if they're being followed by an instructor
Camera angle: Like to see your speedo reading, I'm sure others do too. Just one question, since Scotland still uses imperial measures for speed does your readout indicate gills or ounces. Just asking for a friend 😀
Another great video, thanks. I am currently undertaking DAS training and whilst have not been on a motorway I have been on multi-lane A roads (that have come from motorways) and dual carriageways. Key thing I struggle with, apart from just getting used to it feeling exposed is the wind buffeting not only against my chest but pushing the helmet when turning my head for life savers. Any tips, or is this just one of those things you get used to with experience
Wind will always be an issue on motorways. If you do feel the bike get pushed around with the wind, rolling off the throttle to let it settle always helps. 🤜🤛
More good advice. Motorways can be a real dangerous environment as the dudes with fast cars and long straights batter that outside lane and get frustrated if anyone is in the way while they do 100 mph. Concentration is a biggy as you point out. You are defo more vulnerable and two wheels there. Think your camera angle is fine mate, didn't see a problem
I talk about this in the video briefly but It's no different to riding on a 2 lane motorway really. Travel in the left lane and use the other lanes for overtaking. Outside lanes are usually for faster moving traffic. Pay attention to motorway signs as they'll tell you where lanes go. For example, exits or leading North or South or you may need to switch lanes to get on to another motorway. Signs alway give you information early so you can switch between lanes if you need to. 🤜🤛
@@MotoEcosse my 84 year od biker pal says i should always ride in the fast lane to the left in the fast lane to enable quick evasion in event of trouble? wondering if anyone else had other opinions i ride a gsxr 750 srad
@@seanh6097 it makes sense as long as you're not holding anyone up in that lane. Probably not likely as they can just overtake. Always good to have an exit point on any road you ride on. 🤜🤛

Fantastic man, congratulations. 🤜🤛
New to biking
I love you videos
Found a few very good
Thank you

Ear plugs! Its not the noisy bike that destroys your hearing, its the wind noise over time and the wind noise atv70mph+ is damaging to your hearing.
Very good observation, I go a little quicker on my commute but same goes
As always a great vid mate thanks
Excellent vid! thanks Moto Ecosse
Cheers, Jack. 🤜🤛🤙

Yeah car drivers can. Unfortunately motorcyclists can't. 🤜🤛

You can now drive on a motorway with a driving instructor which i only found out last week as my eldest is learning to drive at the moment.
Good to know. I was unaware they'd changed the rules for car drivers. Makes sense I suppose with the instructor in the car with you. 🤜🤛
From June 2018, learner drivers will be able to take driving lessons on motorways in England,

I just hate cross winds, that is my main fear of riding motorways!
What about riding a 3 or 4 lane plus motorway that please?!

I nearly got taken out by a van on the motorway, he just pulled across, didn't look or use indicators
Yeah had that before as well. Some drivers just don't give a damn.
Ear plugs, please wear them my ears are always fkd after forgetting to put em on when riding on motorway
