    Passed my CBT last year. One thing I can tell you tis do NOT be nervous! The instructors are there to teach you to be safe, not to fail you.
    Like Ecosse said it's not a test, it's training. Just take your time, listen to the instructors advice and you'll do just fine! If anything, being on the bike for the first time will be scary.
    But that fear will fade on your second day of riding I promise you that.

    • @KrisVickers-wn6dd
      @KrisVickers-wn6dd 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I've got mine soon. I'm pretty nervous. You say 2nd day but I think over here it's all in one day.
      Any tips to ease the nerves? cheers.

    • @dylanarchangel2673
      @dylanarchangel2673 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@KrisVickers-wn6dd Yeah some places do one day, others do 2 day, up here in Scotland at least it's a 2 day course usually.
      My advice here is to pay attention to the instructors. If you listen to them and take in what they say, you'll be safe, and if you're safe, you won't have any issues.
      If you haven't shifted gears before on a bike, they will teach you that of course, but in my experience I shifted really slowly. Don't rush yourself but don't avoid yourself making progress either.
      Other than that, do not be afraid. Keep your eyes and ears open, and when you get onto the main roads, make sure to do life-savers, and check your mirrors constantly. The more information you have, the more you can plan for the roads ahead.

    • @KrisVickers-wn6dd
      @KrisVickers-wn6dd 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@dylanarchangel2673 I haven't shifted gears no. That's probably what I'm most apprehensive about. As I've rode Scramblers when I was younger but they were automatic.
      Thanks for the advice. I had been cycling to work everyday on the roads so I'm hoping that will help in terms of feeling confident on the road.

    • @dylanarchangel2673
      @dylanarchangel2673 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@KrisVickers-wn6dd Shifting will be explained by the instructors, I'll leave it to them to actually teach you as I'm not really qualified lmao
      But, what I can say early on, is that leaning with the bike is the main way of steering. At the 5-15MPH speeds, it is mainly just turning handlebars regularly. Once you get to around 20-25MPH it'll become a bit harder to turn the handlebars, and you need to lean with the bike to turn instead.
      Other than that, just follow what the instructors say and you'll do great, it's not a course that's difficult as long as you stay calm and pay attention. It's training, not a test. So there's no 'failure', if they don't feel you're ready, you just spend another day in the yard most likely, and they'll get you back out onto the road to see if you're ready. I had to do an extra 2 days for mine due to both nerves and stupidity on my end. But I will say, there's no shame in taking extra time if they offer it and you don't feel ready for the road.

    • @KrisVickers-wn6dd

    In the process of doing my CBT at the moment. No proper experience with riding or driving a car.
    Did three hours on the first day stopping at figure 8. Came back second day for another 3 hours to finish that and the u-turn. Last session will be out on the road next week.
    Really happy that my instructor has really high standards and will not move onto the next technique until you have absolutely nailed it. It may be taking me longer than a day but I am gaining a great amount of confidence as a result.

    Great vlog as always. I had a close one when out on the road doing my CBT. I was about to turn right from a main road to a side road, and an impatient guy in a car overtook me. Just as well I did my lifesaver. I had never been on a bike before, but luckily I had been driving cars for 30 odd years, which helped me too. God forbid if it had been someone young with no road experience, it would've been a different story. My instructor was fuming and went chasing after them and gave him a right mouthful. How dangerous was that? Especially knowing we were learners and wearing highviz vests too. There's some right idiots on the roads. So anyone about to take your CBT or still learning, always be extra vigilant of what's going on around you. Safe riding everyone 🏍👍

    • @DoomNedwob
      @DoomNedwob 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Tell me about it! I think driving standards have reached new lows, post various lockdowns. I've had my 125 for a week and some of the downright dangerous overtaking and tailgating I've experienced is shocking! Like you I have a lot of years, 37 in my case, driving cars, which certainty helps anticipating what people are going to do. Ride safe now and as my nan used to say before we went anywhere, "everyone's an idiot" 😁

    • @janinew233
      @janinew233 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@DoomNedwob it's one of the reasons I rushed to get my test done. I just didn't feel safe riding a 125cc bike. I've only been riding a few months , then sat my tests a few weeks ago. It makes such a difference having the extra power to get away from the idiots. Plus I hated it when lorries were overtaking me on the dual carriageways. At least I don't get blown about either.

      @@janinew233 congrats on passing your test. Being harassed on a small bike is certainly no fun. For me though, I felt I need a bit more riding experience before going for my DA. When I did my CBT there weren't any test slots for five months anyway! I guess that may be better now. So I'm pootling around my local area having fun and building my confidence. Ride safe now.

      @DanielFFA yes I managed to get it on my first try. The riding school I used was absolutely brilliant, and the tutor had the time and patience of a saint. I personally didn't need more time than usual, but a few others did. This, of course, put my mind at ease, and the rest of the course came easy enough. I will advise just taking your time and trying to get your knowledge up on road signs and have a basic understanding of the highway code before attempting. My course we got asked before the 1hr "road test" what certain signs meant and majority didn't know them even when one of the guys had already passed his cbt 2 years prior and had been riding that entire time already which was kinda scary. I do wish you the best and if you find it difficult with gears just remember that if you pass on a scooter you can still buy and ride a geared bike where you could learn gears in your own time possibly on an empty car park 😉

When I was actually on the road, did forget lifesavers a few times, went over rather than round a roundabout, and when it was nearly the end of the road ride, took the wrong exit at a roundabout. Thought I'd have to come back for more training when the instructor went silent, but turns out I managed to get my certificate. Interesting point re learning at a different pace. I was on manual on my CBT, another student was a pizza delivery bloke renewing his CBT for the fifth time on an automatic scooter, so plenty of experience. Two hours in I was still a bit ropey on the clutch control, while pizza boy was acing the u turns, slaloms etc. Instructor stopped my day at noon and told me to come back for continuation, at further expense.

    • @MotoEcosse
      @MotoEcosse  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I wouldn't worry about it, Murray. Your instructor on the day will make sure your both happy and confident enough to go out on the road. As for going round roundabouts, the bike will be absolutely fine. You'd be surprised what you can do with a bike at slower speeds, like going round roundabouts for example. You can literally ride about at about 2-3 mph and the bike won't tip over. Once you get used to doing basic things in the morning like riding about and turning the bike, you'll feel a lot more confident about roundabouts. 🤜🤛

    Hi there bit confused here…
    I’m doing my CBT on the 18th, feel pretty confident about the riding side of things as I’ve ridden push bikes for years but could you tell me what actually defines “you must have basic knowledge of the high way code”. What defines the high way code? I’ve bought the book but is it the whole thing I have to read or only certain parts of it. I also bought a know your traffic signs book which I’ll read as I know it’s not all of them because I won’t be going on the motorway since it’s only a CBT but still confused as to what they mean by the Highway Code!
    Any info will help!

      Its not a fail but they may only give you a few trys but if you do put your foot down it's not an immediate fail as it may be your first time riding and they will let you try again and if you then put your foot down like he says they will move onto another task then go back and if it happens again then they may have to terminate the test. Idk if this helps but its the best I could do. 👍
