Yet they didn't feature any of Diana's favourite and iconic dresses from 80's: The silver backless Bruce Oldfield, the velvet John Travolta dress, and the Hachi dress she wore numerous times and was perhaps her most dazzling. They dropped the ball on Diana's costumes IMHO, and the wedding dress was a huge anticlimax with the short screen time.
The costumes were great but the sets/locations were a bit off. For example they have now twice used a gothic cathedral interior for inside the baroque St Paul’s. Again we see Greenwich being used which is SO lazy although that’s nowhere near as bad as it being used in Les Misérables (ever seen a sash window in Paris?). And as for Wilton House (the Double Cube Room yet again!), it’s in so many films and shows I’m surprised the location team didn’t avoid it for that very reason. Can’t they have a little more imagination?
@@ryle1683 It’s frustrating. They obviously pay a great deal of attention to all other aspects but then spoil it by using over-familiar or inappropriate locations. I fully understand there are limitations but when it’s the same old places over and over it just appears sloppy to me.

Well, in Denmark only one track is available from the album which is called Fairytale (Martin Phipps). Personally, I prefer what Lorne Balfe brought to the series, but I do like some of Phipps' tracks, e.g. Fairytale.
It has been playing in my head for days now. I’ve described it as a melancholy , perhaps mythical atmosphere too it. Listening to it, I think Of English knights and ladies from centuries before. It’s such a stirring piece
She probably meant the constant costume changes for the character. In those films her outfits were quite limited. In this series she wears multiple outfits just for a single episode, so it may be apt to say she spends more time dressed in character.
The creator and Emma herself comment on this why they didn't show us the wedding ceremony..it is because we knew what happens (i mean because they were real events) and if you want to watch that happen, watch the recording of it..i think they considered it from the technical aspect even though this season mainly shot before the COVID-19 pandemic, to gather and coordinate an amount of crowd at Westminster Abbey is a tough one even to think (i know they used mixed of real and CG for the crowds; also speaking from the costume department to have fitted that many extras with costumes)
And to add to the comment about why they didn’t show more about the dress aka the wedding it’s also because the show is called the crown which is about the queen we are seeing pieces of people life around her. If they make a show about Diana I’m sure we will see the wedding.
The Crown after all is a fictional series based on historical people. They seem to be focusing on the private life and emotions of these people so spending more time on such a well known, widely seen even as the wedding would not add as much to the story as others. Plus it would just draw comparison to the real wedding instead of existing within the show

Seasons 1-3 are bad compared to season 4. It really took the show to another level - a much higher one, IMO.

i love this so much. costume design is such an important part of film and tv. i saw people mentioning how they don't get how diana was considered a fashion icon based on her outfits on the show when she was literally a teenage girl still. i think this is such a great video that describes the obvious choice to showcase diana as a "normal" teenager at that time. it really leans into her age. she was a baby and many of the iconic diana photos are of her as a woman who has grown and matured.

I agree with you completely. Didn't watch it when it came out bafter the first year I started and have been hooked ever since. I couldn't believe I had watched the entire 4th season in 2 sittings. I may have to watch it again!
I remember watching Diana come out of the carriage before going into church & that humongous dress & those puffy sleeves. I had a sense of disappointment as I thought they would dress her in a " Princess Grace Kelly " type of garment....What a beautiful lady she was. She deserved better.
It's a shame, they made a near 100% accurate recreation of the wedding dress and yet only showed it for like 5 minutes in the show. They completely skipped the wedding, which seems like a glaring omission. Beautiful dress, just wished we could have seen more of it.
In interviews the producers and actors have said that they didn't want to recreate something just for the sake of recreating it. And since the wedding was already in the video age, it can be viewed freely on the internet. There was also mention of how every event shown must somehow directly or indirectly link back to the queen and ongoing sociopolitical happenings. While I'm ambivalent to the omission of the wedding, I do think it was a thoughtful and interesting choice not to show it. In this way it somehow precludes the storyline of Diana's marriage just being a sham.
@@daydreamingawweline7744 yes but again, Diana's wedding was a spectacle and iconic event in itself that to recreate it just for recreating it, and not necessarily as a driving plot point, may have been superfluous. You should check out interview of cast and crew where they talk about this more.

Nothing like the real Diana wedding dress that dripped in real large pearls & diamonds; the finest silk that creased due to the smallish royal coach-itself a work of art. Thought the same. I was waiting for the wedding dress and all we got was like 4 minutes of it. Maybe they did film the entering of the cathedral but cut for time restraints.
It is rather sad really that they’ve gotten so many of these visuals down almost to perfection in terms of reality, yet the events themselves are highly altered for dramatisation and entertainment. People have to remember this when watching it.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that thought this! Especially for the Australia episode, her hair was longer, more swooped and gold blonde, not mousy brown on that tour. 10 years of her life they covered, and they gave her two mediocre wigs.
@@hisserenehighness5930 her wig was atrocious when Diana asked the Queen to love her. It looked like a hat, it was so high. Everything else except the Australia episode was perfect.

Thought the same. I was waiting for the wedding dress and all we got was like 4 minutes of it. Maybe they did film the entering of the cathedral but cut for time restraints.
Princess Diana
Such a great show!
They deserve all the awards!
My personal favourites was Margaret's clothes with the dark but strong colours, especially that purple coat and the reddish dress
Loved all of Diana’s wardrobe absolutely stunning❤️
6:44 chills!!!! That shot!!! I did feel weird too
I have touched the real wedding dress of Diana. It’s beautiful. (I managed Diana: a celebration exhibition)
Absolutely amazing costume design work
It is rather sad really that they’ve gotten so many of these visuals down almost to perfection in terms of reality, yet the events themselves are highly altered for dramatisation and entertainment. People have to remember this when watching it.
Absolutely agree. These are real people they are talking about
6:44 That shot. She looked like the young Diana.
That wedding dress, I don’t know, so much work so many weeks to achieve it & we just see it 10 sec! 🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️
Got to remember covid
also josh and emma both said that to them
it didn’t matter because you can just go on youtube and watch the real wedding anyway
Watching all these clips, I need to watch The Crown. I've always been interested in The royals story especially Princess Diana's story. I don't and can't afford Netflix but I'll find a way to watch it
The Crown is so amazing, everybody did a great job!
I hope the crown to go to Oscars...and definitely win an Oscar..that's a perfect work..👌👌
I understand bad critics about this show and I don't want to. at least give the cast and crew some credits about their marvelous passion. the acting is jawdropping, the writing is wonderful, aaah the cinematography, thecediting and the costume designs...everything is beyond stunning!!! ✨
Just incredible....British TV film at it's very best
I'd love to design costumes one day. It seems so fun and I love drawing and designing
Princess Diana 😍🇬🇧
Shame they didn’t focus more on Diana’s wig!
Agreed. Diana had such a beautiful head of hair, and she was photographed so often, it seems as if they could have done better.
I love vintage style...
I love weddings dress Diana so beautiful...
Please make a video about the tiara recreations!
