Josh has me convinced. I’ll be slingin RIP XVs at TAW 428 grains. That’s with a 125 mega meat. Used the Mega s last year at 476 grains and blew clean through everything I hit.

Just built my first set of RIP XVs. 250 spine at 420 grain total weight. 319 out of my V3X33! So far really impressed with performance. Great video, keep putting out the content!

Man I been running that same setup all for the last few year out of a 80# bow and I love it for deer never broke one clean pass threws on deer I king of want to build some tko for hogs I just can’t get the rip tko down to 420 with a lighted nock it helps so much finding blood in south ga thick swamps public land not hunting the same spots

      @mountainmancaraway6431 17 วันที่ผ่านมา

Johnneedham- I know what you mean about those southern thickets. Grew up hunting South Carolina. Lighted nocks are a huge help in finding your arrow and blood trail. The thing I like most about the RIP XVs is how easy it is to get FOC on that shaft. I've never been able to use light inserts on any other 250 spine and still end up with a good 14-16%. I used the stainless inserts that fit my rampage and they have been working out great

You won’t have issues at that with penetration if you have good shot placement. If you have poor shot placement you will but that is on the hunter and their lack of practice 90% of the time. Lighter arrows give more yardage forgiveness on errors in ranging and also minimize the chance of movement by the game you’re taking. I hate the I need 550 guys 😂. Most are living in the 1970’s or something.

It’s funny you said the Rip TKO included insert is garbage. I threw those on my 6 pack since I wanted around 50gr insert weight. Let my brother shoot my bow and he sailed that stick straight into a concrete wall. Punched a hole in the cinder block, ruined the tip, but the arrow is still perfect. I was actually impressed by how tough it was.

The lightest arrow is a good question. For anyone striving for the super speed maximum for your setup there are careful considerations to ensure you still have an ethical and realistic opportunity to shoot thru the elk's vitals "triangle of death". There is an advantage to having speed. There is an advantage to having the durability that comes with heavier arrow shaft builds. Most guys don't find the performance flat trajectory that is possible but instead go so heavy that every tenth of a yard on the laser rangefinder makes a big difference on your margin of error. In timber it is much easier to thread the needle with a light flat shooter, but you must have the ethical angle thru the kill zone. It is unreasonable to specifically shoot an animal positioned where heavy bone is likely to affect arrow penetration, heavy or light. JUST AVOID the bad angles and this arrow weight debate becomes less of an issue for penetration and boils down to what's more accurate. What's more accurate for you and your setup is totally personal as a choice. Any set-up getting above the 280 fps speed producing at least 80lbs of ke at the bow is enough for elk, assuming you have draw length or ability to pull the draw weight to accomplish this. If not then it is better to design a mid-weight super penetrating broached style and reduce/limit the length of shot taken. From a guide's perspective - the moment of truth tells a lot about the hunter. Hunter is either prepared for the task as his bow and arrow combination is capable - or the hunter is not ready; or the hunter compromises in the moment and forces the bad angle shot; and ultimately blames the equipment rather than themself. It is really more up to the hunter than the arrow. th-cam.com/users/shorts04w0BquZoPs?si=i4QeX6MHdPdih9NN. see more

Hey guys. I want to thank you again for all the outstanding tips, tricks, and general info. I finally got smart and had my brother mark one of my arrows around a 1/4" past the rest while at full draw. I found out I could cut my Gold Tip Hunter XT 340's down again from 28 1/4" to 27". Which brings my arrow weight and FOC from 469gr and 15.13%, down to 458gr and 15.54%Foc. Even when I switch to a .204 arrow, Probably the Victory RIP 300's, the weight and FOC will be around the same.

As far as arrows, I'll keep my 2315's w/125 razorheads for my compound and my woodies w/160 razorheads for all my trad bows. theyve killed everything Ive shot over the last 50 yrs. Maybe about 90% pass thru. If memory serves me my longest shot w/compound was 51yds and closest was 7 yds. Trad bow longest is 25yds and closest was 8 yds. I'm a murphys law kind of guy, if it aint broke dont F with it, no point in complicating something that works...😉

Halfout with a collar is exactly what I've been looking for. Arrow shaft to halfout, halfout to collar, collar to broadhead=three points of contact.
    VS
HIT insert (no contact with end of arrow shaft) to collar and collar to broadhead=two points of contact. I'm going to take a wild guess here but three points of contact will be more forgiving on impact than two points of contact.

I’m very new to archery hunting, how does this information or the general philosophy of arrow weight change (if at all) when you start hunting smaller quicker animals such and white tail or antelope??

Firsly, white tail and antelope are very different, IMO. White tail (the majority of my experience) tend to be shorter shots (inside 30 yards) in, or near areas of tree cover, at relatively known range. Antelope tend to be more open shots that are longer by necessity and less forgiving. Generally, just know that you can drop the arrow weight a bit. Any well-made arrow over 350gr will do as long as there is a sharp, quality broadhead on the front, and as long as it flies straight. Personally, I like to run a bit heavier than that for white tail (430-450). I'd probably run on the lighter side of that (375-400) for antelope, given open ranges and longer shots, but at the end of the day, it comes down to experience (knowing when NOT to shoot) and being able to put your arrow where you are aiming. Your personal setup makes a big difference as well. Draw length and draw weight are big factors in arrow speed. I'd focus on building an arrow that is hitting at least 280FPS out of your setup for a forgiving trajectory, especially for antelope. For white tail, it is more about your pre-season scouting and shooting practice than it is about arrow speed and weight. I've killed several white tail with a 490gr arrow that starts at 266FPS. One of those was at 52 yards (this is a RARE shot, and I only took it because conditions where perfect. I don't recommend it.). That setup blows through deer, with the arrow burying itself 5+ inches into the ground on the other side. It is overkill, but it flies well. My point being that tinkering is great, but if you've done your homework (scouting, tuning, practice), any setup over 350gr can work.

Good stuff. I would run a airstrike for lite weight setup and a Kaos for a heavy setup.

One question @elkshape what are your thoughts on hit inserts with a collar for 5mm arrows? Easton came out with the new collars just curious why half outs vs HIT inserts

Josh should get you to shoot that straight up VAP. They are all the things that make a great 4MM, and they are bullet proof suited with the right components.

I’ve been waiting for a video like this! I am glad MFJJ talked through his titanium components a little more. I shot the lift 33” the other day and they had me at 31.5” draw, which means when I finally make the purchase of a new bow I will need to get new arrows. The FOC talk has gone in many directions in the past two years (how long I have been in the bow game). What is MFJJ magical FOC % and how would he go about making a cross over hunting and 3D target arrow at 31”.5 draw length? Dan I would like your input too!

I’m just starting to peak down this rabbit hole so I’ll only ask one question, what are the benefits of half outs? I think they look cool and my educated guess is it’s a way to add weight to the front of an arrow but something tells me there’s a little more to it. Love your vids guys! You’re my go to for learning more about archery.

Switched from GT hunters with 125gn head to GT black label quantums, Easton 75gn insert, collar and 100gn head. Same 445 arrow weight but 190 up front on the quantum

I shoot x-impacts alot for field archery. I ended up using Josh's Ti 50gr inserts and halo nocks for hunting this year. Extremely impressed with the halo nocks. I shot the absolute guts out of them, more than some people probably shoot in a lifetime. Total setup with a Grim Reaper weighted 390gr. Killed a coyote with it. I then switched over to a RIP TKO setup with Josh's insert, total arrow weight 433gr. Killed a doe, so far, with a shwacker Levi edition on the front. Full pass through at 40yds with 1" entry wound and 2" exit. Dead in 3 seconds with a massive blood trail.

Curious your opinion on the carni-four? I’ve changed broadheads like 5 times the last three seasons and after everything I want to (I think) go to at least a three blade mech. The carnival-four is interesting.
For reference I shoot 70 lbs 30.5 inch draw and 476 grain arrow. Any input is appreciated!

The toughest arrow I own are my Grizzlystik 240's, which are made by Victory for those who do not know. I run Ethics stainless steel components up front and a very big ridiculously heavy 400 grain Tuffhead single bevel. They are purpose built African dangerous game arrows that I have used on Whitetail as well, but with a 200 grain head. Those things are literal meat missiles. My normal Whitetail arrow is the Procomp 250 w/ Ethics components.
