    Good build! Almost my exact process except I score the inside of the shaft with a bore brush and the outside of the halfsert with sandpaper. Then clean both with acetone before hotmelt gluing. A little extra confidence for me. I would recommend the AAE Pro Max Vanes for your 4 fletch build. I love them for 3D! Thanks for the good content Tim!

    Awesome video as always sir 👍 Tac vanes are awesome I use the aae primer pen and glue with the rip TKOs and have never had a issue with vanes not sticking or coming off ever, I’m also a fan of the 4 fletch, I get a few extra yards out of my sight tape and if you send one through the target and fold a vane all you have to do is get a little heat on it with your breath or whatever and 80% of the time it straightens right out

    Definitely build a 4 vane for MFJJ! Look at the TAC Matrix 2.25's...also in my experience ABB's always clock right, every other string I have used clocks left (GAS, Zebra, 60X), all out of the same bow. Not sure if that is the same for everyone, just what I have experienced.

    On my RIP XV Elite arrows, I used Easton Axis HIT inserts with Bob Smith Industries glue, and Gold Tip ballistic collars with hot melt glue, with 125 grain field points, giving my 27" long arrows a 15% F.O.C. I've got them fletched with 2.5" Bohning HEAT vanes fletched with the most helical I can get from a Bitzenberger jig with an upgraded AAE nock receiver. I'm only a 26.75" draw. Shooting 50 yards the other day with these arrows from my Solution SS, I put a 1/2" group right in the 10-ring with open sights (no lenses anywhere).
    Tim, it's "cyano-acrylate" (6 syllables). LOL!!

    You can use regular glue like Bob Smith glue and still remove the inserts if you have to. Using a drill bit that is just a touch smaller than the inside diameter of your arrow. Slide it in with the chuck side toward the insert and then with a whipping action it will knock the insert loose and not damage the arrow. I've been doing this for a very long time. The problem with hot melt is it can't be used with certain arrows like black eagle. And if you get the hot melt too hot when inserting the insert you can damage the arrow and ruin it.

    Def try a four fetch! You don’t know if you don’t give it an honest try! Tournament archers like it because they have an additional clocking location for a flyer while group tuning. Just keep it around 2”.
    And lighter is better to maintain FOC.

    Sweet Build! I just got a RAM spine tester part in that will let me finish filming my black eagle build 😎Planned to film some broadhead tuning with the FOCOS system, but it is kinda a "redundant step" now because I couldn't wait to shoot my broadheads and they fly great regardless!
    However I'm skeptical that the FOCOS system may be weak like the rip tko stock components (if you check my vid I show a deadspace in the outsert.. would love to know you and MFJJ's opinion on it).. you definitely got my wheels turning on the podium components for my next build!!

    Good video, try some flex fletch FFP-175’s (3.1grains each). I use one stringer wraps in the 4” range, so easy to take off if needed. Heavy up front, 60yds spot on. This is in the Midwest, but it would be neat to see how they would do for you guys out west. I’m currently at 22-24%foc.

  • @houghtonic1975

    Insert Iron works really well as a glue. Holds way better than hot melt and if you put the arrow end in boiling water for 15 minutes or so, you can pull the insert without damaging the carbon. I've lost many inserts using hot melt. Depends on the insert, but the bond strength no matter what prep I used just did not keep inserts in consistently enough for me.

  • @archeryguy831
    @archeryguy831 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Apply a small dap of arrow lube on the outside of the shaft before putting your inserts in and it won't allow the glue to stick to the outside of the arrow.. but watch to make sure it doesn't get on the inside of the arrow to glue won't allow the inserts to glue up at all

  • @OutdoorAdrian
    @OutdoorAdrian 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Hey Tim. Switch to TAC vanes is my opinion. They have the best adhesion! You won’t need to add the dabs of glue on the front and back of the vanes. I’ve never had a vane come off through 3 dozen arrows. Good video!

    I've run 4 and 6 (gasp🙊) for the 4 ive run, TAC, and bohning x3 1.75 and 2.25 which are actually lower profile than the 1.75. for 6 ive run the AAE plastifletch 1.6 and thats lighter than 3 max stealth. Once the arrow is spinning there isn't really a slow down difference from 1-5° . As long at the tip is pulling the arrow (FOC) i haven't noticed a large difference in impact point as long as the vanes are appropriately sized to the configuration. Ie more smaller vanes vs fewer larger vanes. The TAC vanes do drag less and give you a couoke more yds at longer distance, they are by far the hardest to fletch consistently

    Did you re-weigh all your arrows after gluing in inserts/fletchings? Just bought some arrows and supplies from Josh recently. First time doing arrows, and started putting them together last night. Had all the inserts and arrows weighed out and matched up and was sitting +- 1 grain (so a total of 2 grains off between the lightest to the heaviest). After using hot melt to glue in the inserts, most of them were close but there were a few "flyers" that were higher or lower than expected. One or two quite a bit off. My points haven't arrived yet because I'm playing with different weights. Should I just wait and see if the weight variant between the tips makes up that difference, or go ahead and reheat/pull those inserts and reglue? I felt like my process between all 12 arrows was pretty consistent so I was surprised to see some at such a big difference.

    From watching the videos Josh has talked about fletching, I’ve come to the conclusion that josh doesn’t like a 4 fletch because of the extra weight it puts on the back of the arrow vs the same vane as a 3 fletch… that’s why he seems to go with a more radical helical… but from the videos I’ve seen with those arrows flying in slow motion at longer distances, I’ve seen that radical helical causing a sort of parachute effect… I personally like a 4 fletch with a 1.5 degree helical.. gives you the extra steering for a fixed blade without a parachute… I use a bitz jig also..

    I’d love to get some “budget arrow” tips as well. For those of us that can’t afford $25 arrows, something somewhere in the middle. Like right now I’m shooting Easton 6.5’s. Is there something that’s a comparable price but is way better than that arrow?? I’m looking for a decent 3D arrow right now, but also am looking for a decent hunting arrow. It’s hard trying to figure all of this out by yourself when you’re a 33 year old who has never been around archery and is picking it up on your own.

    • @BigBHomie54

      @@ieanfrm8035 the shaft above the threads on the broadheads are just slightly too thick so it won't allow the threads to catch. You can really force it and barely catch the threads but there is no way you will tighten it all the way down. They say the 100 grain fit fine or you can try and lightly sand the shaft on the broadheads.

      Hey bud I just got my inserts in today and I had 3 packs of qad 125 exodus I bought and 2 packs fit pretty and 1 would not like yours so it's a qad problem not a podium insert problem did some research and it has been a problem for some so I contacted qad and they are sending me a new pack so its not the difference between 100 and 125 grain its just a flawed broadhead

  • @madman432000

    This is more a question for Josh I guess, but why can't we just buy all the arrow parts "a la cart", since Tim is using a different insert than what comes with the shafts that was a complete waste of money. Same with nocks, if I prefer to use pin nocks and I choose different nocks than what comes with the shafts. Victory even has several different inserts available but I don't see where they allow you to order shafts with the inserts you want and nocks you want.

    • @TimConnor13

      @@TimConnor13 And for that matter, since we have to cut arrow down to the size we want why not buy then in parent shaft size of 8 feet or so and cut shafts to size we want. That way we could order in a parent size to minimize waste.

    I'm getting ready to build a dozen myself. I've typically gone with GT Hunter XT's. I've been shooting their 340's for a while now. But, I've gotten in alot better shape over the last couple years and have increased my draw weight. So I'm gonna need new arrows anyway. I just don't know what size spine to go with. I want to run at least a 125gr broadhead with a 100gr insert, But, all the spine charts I've seen, just show the tip weight, they don't include the insert weight in the calculations. With my new draw weight and my draw length, they all say 300 spine. But, what about the extra 80+ grains of going from a stock insert to a stronger one. Should I just jump to 250 spine? And hope that's right. I'm on a budget, so I can't just buy a dozen arrows and not have them right. Any help would be immensely appreciated.

    After building arrows for like 15+ years for target and hunting I’ve come to the conclusion it’s easy to put too much detail and wasted money into them. High end collars, special nocks and nock bushing may not be required for certain applications. You don’t need a $30+ to kill a deer at 30 yards or less. Or a pig at 20 yards. 99.999% of the archers can’t hit a dime multiple consecutive shots anyway. So why waste the money? A midge range cost arrow in .003 is plenty sufficient most of the time. lol, if. If I could shoot better my ideas would change I’m sure. Bottom line is the arrow must fly straight and clean right off the rest. Flying clean without the vanes needing to take over and correct flight issues. The main thing ,IMO, is the arrow ALSO must hit “ behind the pin”. It’s not quite rocket science but close,lol. 👍👍👍
