I so appreciate keeping in the mistakes. Not only does it show everyone does, but also that it's OK to do so, and this is how you fix it. Thank you for having this channel and supporting us DIYers
I was watching another channel “Perkins Building Brothers” awesome show to watch they explain all the steps as they are building a home which also includes TIPS of the trade. They mentioned that when you use screws to attach framing and run into the issues of gaps that using the screws that are threaded all the way to the top of the head of the screw to try and draw in the gaps they will not draw in the gaps because of having threads The total length of the screw. You should use screws that have no threads on the top end of the screw. This will allow the screws to actually be able to draw the wood together much better. It allows the screw to keep driving into the wood and not bottom out at the end of the treads on the screw. I never heard any builder mention that and it sure works really good. Thought I would ask you to share this with your viewers. Thanks. Love your show!!!!
Well, I'm 60 and I'm going to attempt to build this shed. With help from my 24 year old daughter., two ladies and a shed build. ❤❤. I just priced sheds and holy hat batman 💰💰😮😳. Will let you know how I make out. Thank you so much for this video, your time and laughs. Cheers
I just watched a 4-hour shed build video on a Friday night alone. 😂😂 But seriously, it feels like I’m building alongside my dad. I’ve learned so much…wonder how much I’ll pick up on the second and third watch? Thanks for providing such useful content.
You always make everything look so easy and absolutely seamless! I am so jealous that I don’t have someone like you near me to learn from, hands-on! Even your bloopers don’t slow you down and I’m so glad you include them. It makes me feel like I can do it too and it is attainable!😊
I love the video, but I believe the blue waterproofing tape starts at the bottom first, then adding each vertical side piece overlapping the bottom piece, and then finally adding the top strip overlapping the two side pieces. That way the rain never enters the blue tape. Same installation concept as roofing, working from the bottom to top overlapping each layer as you go upward.
I always used Stanley knives until the Milwaukee ones came out, but as much as I love the Milwaukee flip knife, those Olfa knives are by far the best. So well made, cheap for blades and just never lets you down.
You are going to have critters under that shed. Saw a great solution for a platform like this the other day, dig a foot wide trench that is a foot deep and lay 24" wide 1/4: square wire fence in a L shape, attaching it to the bottom of the deck and then lining the shed side of the trench and the bottom. Looked to be super succesful.
Shed looks great. I like the vinyl siding, looks good and no painting or big upkeep. You saved $ and time. You explained everything that anyone can understand. Thank you.
I am contemplating a sort of shed extension off the back side of my studio but I was thinking of putting stone under the base to keep it from being a critter magnet during the winter. Also being in maine the soil moisture has serious heave so the stone doesn't do that. So the ? Is if you build the base you have over your grass over crushed 2" stone do you out it in after you've built your 2x8 frame or put your 2x8 frame on top of it. 😊
The plastic strip that's screwed on the sides of the doors is like a brace. Doors come standing on pallets, they keep at least 5 or 6 doors from falling over and then they are wrapped in thick plastic and a band. I use to work at lowes lol
I use to work at Lowe’s in the Mill Works department. And those straps that on your door that you referenced to are to hold them on the pallet together they come six doors to a pallet and when you unstrap them to put up in stock, you’re supposed to take the little straps off but lazy people just use a utility knife and cut it off.
When I built my shed I made sure to put the walls on a sill plate so I could install the floor on the *inside* of the walls. Which allows me to maintain the floor separately if something ever needs replaced. Plus the walls aren't sitting on a floor, they are attached directly to the sill plates, which are attached to the joists. A bit more structural.
OK love the glass breaking sounds, and using you're electric nail gun as a hammer...lol...as one ex builder to another ,I've got my last building project as a old man to do.. ,A Shed....wish me luck...awesome video
Another great video Jeff. Thanks. I built a wicked shed at home down 1 side of my yard. It's long and thin but works for me. I built some great long shelves too. Love it.
Wondering the same. I was planning to add another support for the 10 ft run. And one in the middle. Still debating on two in the middle of the 16’ run. So either 9 posts total or 11.
Watched the whole video ... awesome work... I'm just confused..in what part of the video did you u secure the actual floor frame to the 4×4 post and the plastic deck mount.? And also is the 4x4 post .mounted on top that plastic block... just like that? Or do you pour concrete? Over it ??How is it secured?
Jeff - I was always taught to run a bead of PL premium or Liquid Nails along the joists prior to nailing to virtually eliminate all squeaking. Is that not needed - due to it being a shed, or personal preference?
AWESOME job. Always enjoy your work. Recently retired and enjoying woodwork. Money making hobby. BTW you missed the last board with the cut n seal. LOL😀
Jeff, excellent video! Thank you for putting this together. Question for you - I like the look of a slight overhang with soffit. Any recommendation on how to alter the gable roof framing to accommodate this? Can I simply raise the ridge beam and extend the rafters?
That was a lot of work taking the siding off and putting it back, but it sure looks good. I really like the sliding doors and the folding door is pretty cool as well.😊
So if my shed is wider than local lumber here in terms of length of the ridge board. Would you just attach 2 - 2x4 or 6s with mending plates? Mine is spanning 25’. Thanks your videos are all fantastic
Although we live in Minnesota, a pretty cold state and has some similarities to Canada, so your building would be comparable (have to build for a heavy snow load) our local code has some requirements and it is beneficial to build on a cement foundation. I'd love to see a shed project that the was built on cement slab with the first level on cement blocks (to avoid water issues). Have you done something like that?
I built my shed with mostly reclaimed deck lumber, I built it on floating concrete deck blocks, which are somewhat similar to the plastic ones Jeff is using.
Is there any place to see the material list for this project? I'm not speaking about the project plan, only the material list- type and length of screws, other used hardware etc. Any advice on where to purchase all except HH or HD?
Without sheathing on the walls, there is nothing to protect the tyvek and siding. Something stored in there could tip over and come right out through it.
Hi Jeff, how about a video on building a small guest House / annex? Or how to upgrade this shed to guest House / an annex with insulation, wiring, heating, and a small skink?
Amazing video - watched every second. Maybe a dumb question, but how did you secure the base to the 4x4 posts? I must have missed it because I only saw it sitting on there the entire time…? Cheers!
I'm looking to do something like this as a home office. Since I live somewhere we get snow (like Canada) I planned to build the walls and roof with 2x6 to give me room for insulation. What would be the best way to insulate the floor?
@HomeRenovisionDIY what would you do differently if making this into an office? I'm doing this exact thing in my backyard. It's a "shed" that will also be used as a studio so it'll be fully finished. Any details you'd add?
Is this the same technique to use w house wrap on our home? We may have alrighty messed up 😔 we only have half of the back of the house wrapped so far...the rest of the home has the old siding on. We took a hit from tornado in late May.
Jeff, I'm looking to build on a bit of a slope (about 10 degree). I still want to maintain the sloped drainage on this corner of the yard. I also want to put one piece of equipment in the shed (500 lbs) but want to make sure the floor is sturdy enough for this in a 10 x 15 shed. Any suggestions on the best way to do this? Do CAMO blocks still work on a slope like that?
just dig it out and add drainage for the pedestal to sit on. go with 2x10 joists and use 5/4 pt lumber for the floor. let it dry in the sun and then install tight. Cheers!
Rhett's status as a touring musician is above a good 95% of us in the comment section. So he could have roadies, or at least a very decent and efficient way to bring his equipment (aka multiple guitars) into his shows. For us regular people who gig, the acoustasonic does make sense (I personally don't have one, but I do have a Taylor T5 which is similar). I RARELY touch my T5 when I'm at home or in the studio, because it's a sound I never look for and I have multiple guitars at my disposal. But if I had to go to a place and only have one guitar and minimal amount of gear, then I'd bring a T5/acoustasonic.
Hey Jeff another great video. Question you were using a battery nailer and then switched to air, any reason? If you'd like to come to Southern Calif and help me build a lean shed that would be great. lol

Studs are $5 in canada??
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😊😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
@HomeRenoVisionDIY The amount of effort spent not only building the shed & deck but to edit a 4 hour video deserves some serious recognition 👏🏼

I enjoy your videos and always learn something. I’m so glad to see your son working with you. That is priceless. Keep up the good work.

This is amazing. Time together with your son is priceless💗

You have a right-hand man, and together you and your son have produced a wonderful piece of shed!
I'm glad to see you took my advice from a previous video, and stacked the joists when cutting them to length.
So cool. I wish one day my son(1 yr old) can do something similar one day.
I always used Stanley knives until the Milwaukee ones came out, but as much as I love the Milwaukee flip knife, those Olfa knives are by far the best. So well made, cheap for blades and just never lets you down.

Glad it was helpful!
Love your work and your time together. Keep it up!
What was the total cost of this project?
around $5000.00 Canadian dollars
I love these super long shed build videos!
Glad to hear!
My husband and I have learned so much from Jeff. Thank you
Glad to help

Never would have watched a four hour video if Jeff wasn't so entertaining. Cheers😂
I know it's just a shed but you should have jack studs supporting the window headers.

Never say last. I'm on my fourth or fifth "last" building project.
You can definitely tell you know what you're doing. Nice job!
Another great video Jeff. Thanks. I built a wicked shed at home down 1 side of my yard. It's long and thin but works for me. I built some great long shelves too. Love it.
Nice work!
Oh wow! You both got great skills!
You did this all in one day? Beast mode!
Your teaching and modeling are top notch!!! Thank you 🙌🎉🙏🏼🌅
Wow, thank you!
Great video to watch. Thanks for sharing!
Great video
Thanks for sharing! Love this video.
Jeff, I noticed you added another 4x4 support in the middle of your 16’ run. Did you also do that on your 10ft run?
I'm wondering the same. I thought to myself are 4 support posts efficient enough? I was planning 12 support posts in my original plan.
Wondering the same. I was planning to add another support for the 10 ft run. And one in the middle. Still debating on two in the middle of the 16’ run. So either 9 posts total or 11.

Love the father and son projects ❤ Great video team 🍻
Thank you!
I love this video!. Thanks for sharing.
They do make tape for the roof. It is called Forcefield. Fat yellow tape. Probably protect the deck joists well also.
You can straighten the rims by snapping a line on the floor from one end too the next for the wall plates, and use that line as a guide.
Love watching you. Great videos!❤
Always love watching Jeff.
Cheers!
Jeff - I was always taught to run a bead of PL premium or Liquid Nails along the joists prior to nailing to virtually eliminate all squeaking. Is that not needed - due to it being a shed, or personal preference?
keeping it simple cause its a shed. Cheers!
Very nice job. I wish I could use vinyl siding in my area, but we have hail storms that punch large holes in it.
there are new siding products that are hail proof. check out associated materials new siding. Cheers!
This is very interesting to watch!
AWESOME job. Always enjoy your work. Recently retired and enjoying woodwork. Money making hobby. BTW you missed the last board with the cut n seal. LOL😀

Hi jeff. I love doing these kind of projects myself as it doesn't feel like im working cos im enjoying it so much. Love the video and channel.
couldn't agree more. working with my son makes it feel more like a hobby!
That was a lot of work taking the siding off and putting it back, but it sure looks good. I really like the sliding doors and the folding door is pretty cool as well.😊

It really helps me a lot.
Do you need to cover the construction for rain while it’s in progress??
This is beautiful!
Aww this is wonderful!
As a handyman I still love watching your videos how come you always out of breathe you getting old on me lol jk live your work

I built my shed with mostly reclaimed deck lumber, I built it on floating concrete deck blocks, which are somewhat similar to the plastic ones Jeff is using.
I think I would be doing a lot of laminating if I did this project. I just can't seem to get things square.
I just like going ugga ugga until I hammer the screw down all the way. Kidding naturally...great advice for the DIYers.
What if you have a concrete slab already go or the shed? I’m building it for my tools and mower. Thank you
I've played back the video but I can't find if you mentioned the spacing of the rafters you did for the shed? did you do 12 O.C. or 16 O.C.?
Great video! What nailer & nails are you using for the joists? Is it the same as the walls, just a typical framing nailer?
Is there any place to see the material list for this project? I'm not speaking about the project plan, only the material list- type and length of screws, other used hardware etc. Any advice on where to purchase all except HH or HD?
great video! and 4 hour,,,, I was wondering what I should do today after lunch before dinner

Hi Jeff, how about a video on building a small guest House / annex? Or how to upgrade this shed to guest House / an annex with insulation, wiring, heating, and a small skink?
Have you made any videos with installation of rubber (roll) installation? if not is there any you would recommend? thank you
sure am liking the DEWALT 2Ls😎👍👍
Milwaukee FTW
I have some DeWalt tools and some Milwaukee. They are both great tools. In some cases I prefer DeWalt.
Great job Jeff! Just an advise, put the safety guard back on that grinder! 😂
Are those 3" or 4" screws when you're securing and tying all the walls together? Thanks a lot for this video!
I was distracted by how un even the fence pickets were! LOL love your content though!
May I ask how long time it took for you to build this beauty?
Amazing video - watched every second. Maybe a dumb question, but how did you secure the base to the 4x4 posts? I must have missed it because I only saw it sitting on there the entire time…?

stuff rockwool in it before adding the pt plywood.
I was curious if you pre-drill your holes. I know it sounds like a beginner's question, and I guess that's what I am.

@HomeRenoVisionDiy Question: Do u have a blueprint for this shed? Even a cut list
This will be great! 😍👍🏻
Hope you like it!
What is the cost to build your 10x16 in Minnesota You can get a Dakota, Old hickory ,Grandview or tuff shed for about five grand in a 10x16
sure but they don't come with a base and you still have to paint them. this all in without the deck is under$3000.00
\
Seems like matt has come a long way 🎉
what is the hand saw you are using? thank you 😊
Do you not have to allow for siding in the 10 ft?
Love your channel!! Learned a lot from you..thanks

Why dont you cover the base frame with the Typar and vinyl siding?to protect it from the elements?
I think the base is deck lumber and is treated so it doesn't need additional protection.
@@tech61645 true, but in the long run you are still exposing the wood to the elements
@@neilliddiard3040 Do you put vinyl siding on your decks?
@tech61645 I have composite decking now cause my pressure treated wood was falling apart after 18 years 😂
Is there a list of materials available somewhere ? Im interested to build this for my family at the end of summer.
Can I use all screws (structure screws) instead of nails for framing?
sure.

@@HomeRenoVisionDIY of course
When I build a deck I usual just slab some 2 X 6 boards together with nails and screws
Hey Jeff another great video.
Question you were using a battery nailer and then switched to air, any reason?
If you'd like to come to Southern Calif and help me build a lean shed that would be great. lol
the battery nailer had a huge noise as it finished up and was very hard to build and instruct. I now use a milwaukee nailer that is quiet. Cheers!
@@HomeRenoVisionDIY So you're not coming to SO Calif. 😒
I love your videos!
