    This is a cool addition to the story of the Federation. The shows often raced to rescue of one colony or another and we never got much for explanations for "so how did these folks start here?" even if a colony ship was referenced in passing.
    That elongated warp field bubble shape might have been tough to maintain though. Explains its speed limits.

      Thank you so much! And yes, I took the Warp field, and colonization in general in to my thought process when crafting this little story :)

    Cool ship, easily one of my favorites. Would love to see more of these types of industrial ships. IMO Starfleet could use a bit more variety in their ship designs. Saucer, nacelle, secondary hulls can only be done so many ways before they get to repetitive.

    There’s a Starship for every application and task. This one is no exception. BTW, with April Fools coming I had an idea for a fun video. I remember a scene from Star Trek: First Contact. At the battle of Sector 001 between Starfleet and the Borg, a rather interesting looking ship is in the background. I’m talking about the Millennium Falcon. What if Starfleet had built a ship based on the Falcon. Say a limited run, or at least the prototype showed up at the battle. The designer was a fan of Star Wars and decided to make a ship inspired by the falcon in the aftermath of Wolf 359. Maybe incorporated Victrium and ablative hull armor into it. Was designed in tandem with the Defiant and Saber classes. Maybe Argyle was behind it. Drew at little inspiration from the NX class perhaps among other ships.

    I actually came up with a design for a cargo/colony vessel years ago that is strikingly similar to this. TNG era, larger than a galaxy class, with a smaller but thicker saucer and massive cargo/shuttle bays instead of detachable pods.
    Also I'd never even heard of the Edwards class before watching this video. Spooky eh👻

  • @singletona082

    A fleet is more than its cruisers and frigates. A fleet is not just carriers. Seeing these workaday ships that starfleet needs for its affairs is always good.
    I also have t owonder. When these vessels are mothballed, do any come up in private hands? Obsolete by a few generations, expensive (resource and man hours wise if not monitarily since money isn't a thing) to refit. Refitting older ships for civillian purpose where possible allows them to be of use and lets civilian groups have access to resources they wouldn't otherwise.

    • @TriAngulumStudiosAudioComics
      @TriAngulumStudiosAudioComics  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Given Starfleet's Prime Directive, I doubt they would end up in private hands!

    • @singletona082
      @singletona082 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@TriAngulumStudiosAudioComics I'm not even talking 'give them to unaligned worlds.' Like a group within the federation wants to operate a tour of worlds or tour of historical sites, or the like but they want an old connie to do it in to add to the historical nature of everything. Or getting hold of a decomissioned miranda in the 25th century as part of a civilian effort to do supply runs between 'colony' worlds that aren't high on starfleet's priority list. Still within the federation but not star fleet.

    I think when Paramount is making a new Star Trek series or movie they should offer you the Job of designing the federation ships because you make some very good ships and you are good at keeping them in the specific time line of the time period the movie is set in. My two favorite time periods are TNG and the TOS. I like the TOS because it is what Star Trek is based on and I like TNG because it brought Star Trek back to life. When doing TOS they need to keep everything original to the TOS show the technology and uniforms and never try to modernize it but as far as uniforms are concerned I believe in TOS each ship had their own insignia. but as far as the ship are concerned you make some interesting ships for the federation.

    The reason the Eddy class was so successful? They minded their own business and did their job. No going off into some nebula in some unexplored region of the galaxy looking for trouble, no sir! Head down, do the job, and punish anyone who gets in the way.

    Such a beautiful and functional ship compared to most Starfleet designs. It seems like the fleet just gets uglier over time, and they rarely follow the rule of form following function.With the Edward, you have a very aesthetically pleasing vessel while leaving no room to doubt what its purpose is. We definitely need more ships like this brought into Alpha canon to make up for the terrible starship designs most shows now sport.

    A dedicated colony vessel is interesting, but to me, it makes far more sense to create more generic container vessels for multiple use purposes... P'tolmy (Constitution variant), Brownwood (Miranda variant), Anaxagoras (Excelsior variant), Fisher Class (Oberth variant), Osmanieh (Jaynes Starship handbook), Mangsysslare (JOAT), etc.... Containers could include types like the below and many more:
    Military Assault Type
    Mobile Base Type
    Medical Type
    Mobile Repair (aka Dry-dock) Type
    Shuttle/Fighter Carrier Type
    Tender Container Type
    Antimatter/Deuterium/Neutronic Fuel Type
    Colony Transport Type

    I am wondering because it happened to me 2 times
    USS Roon the sentient excelsior class that live through over a century and oldest excelsior still in active services.
    And USS warspite (legacy name carried by multiple ship) the sword of starfleet and the eternal warrior forever condamn to carry the wait war so that the others ships may trive in peace (I may or may not inject spiritisme in my ship lore because I believe that those ship are has much of a character has there crews)
