Just wish we had a few more white Christmases here! We first arrived in Orkney way back in 1999 - in a blizzard! It was magical though and had a really wonderful Christmas with the truly wonderful Orkney folk who welcomed us into their homes. Their genuine warmth, hospitality and generosity made us decide to come and live here, and 17 yrs later we now regard it as our homeland. 'A place is its PEOPLE'. It was the best move we ever made, and is no surprise to us that Orkney has recently been voted the best place to live in the whole of the U.K. Hear hear - or maybe 'Here here'! This peedie film 'says it all' Thanks for sharing it.
Beautiful ! Brenda and I spent the first 3 years of married life in Orkney. As 'ferry loopers' we rebuilt the old croft house at Garth, Outertown, Stromness but then relocated in 1978 to Wales. We loved the views, the people and the way of life. All seasons were different but sometimes all 4 in one day. On my CV it reads 'built and lived in highest habitable house in Orkney ' Got to watch the video again now.
Your photography makes for a magical film, I could have watched for an hour. The standing stones look even more haunting & atmospheric in the snow. Thank you.
Absolute fantastic editing of this film, spiritually lifting, things we pass by without really looking at & to what's around us! Takes a film seen through someone else's eyes to appreciate it's contents.
Beautiful photography in that shoot. Love the sun peeking around the stone at Stenness, the time lapse sequence and the sunset footage at the end. Fond memories every time we visit and we're lucky enough to be going up there again in two weeks to visit and stay with friends on Burray. Deeeeeep joy!
I was originally drawn to your video as I love Nikon cameras and was wanting to buy the current Nikon D7200. I must say your photographic eye for detail and presentation is 100%. I was born and have always lived very close to the Standing stones. I have travelled extensively but your video makes me realise why I love living in Orkney
Images sing and dance, my heart feels a powerful vibe from the Highlands...tears of joy shine on the landscaped screen!!! Now, I understand a bit more what Cinema is all about!!! Thanks very much for uploading it. Congratulations for your work and success with your projects!!!
Of course every day on Orkney in winter isn't always this beautiful - but if you get a stunning day it will top up the batteries until 31 March! The landscape is SO wonderful that a good day will fill your soul and last weeks.
We visited last May (2010) and saw these sights in sunny, warm weather. Thanks for showing them in winter time. Orkney is a beautiful place and you've captured it nicely. Can you tell me the name of the song?
Lovely. I had time betw 2 rail passes, so figured I'd go where they weren't relevant. Picked the Orkneys, back in July '79. I've always felt at home on islands, Ocracoke off North Carolina, the Orkneys, the big one off Cape Cod, MA, Martha's Vineyard. Now living on a small island off the coast of Maine (small = approx 400 acres?). Our island's not high like the Orkneys, but Mt Desert Is, our "mainland" harbor, has cliffs. Glad to hear there's a larger ferry now than when I went up there!
Brilliant! Thanks for this David, I visit Orkney every year, my fav place, but Winter is the only season I`ve never been there, I must remedy this at some point. Anyhow, once again thanks for sharing this great footage.

All I can say is Wow!! I don't think I have seen a D7000 used so well ever. I have been tired of all the depth o' field tests :D Awesome film.

We are so lucky.Although we're a relatively small nation we do have some stunning places in & around Britain.
That is simply lovely, thank you.
