      it's not so much an issue, but the game require a lot of button to play so people are having a hard time mapping the button. The game is highly recommended to be played with a controller, unless you are familiar with Emulator game and can put up with it.

    • @sakuraskye002
      @sakuraskye002 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Ya I just played last night and first thing I realized is that there is no mouse option and I had to map quite a bit of keys. It took me a good hour to finally find a comfortable/easy to remember key binds. This could be an issue when the game will require to use a lot more keys during combat so I did purchase a Xbox one controller today which feels a ton better. It’s unfortunate but it’s still worth it cuz.. thighs.

    This was my first Atelier game. While the battle mechanics and alchemy system can seem very overwhelming, a few hours of letting the combat auto pilot while you push buttons, in addition to spamming the "high quality" autocraft button for alchemy, and you'll eventually figure it out enough to play the game effectively. Came for the thighs, stayed for the plot. And by plot, I mean Lila.
    In all seriousness, the game is worth the $60 price tag, and I don't say that much in the current age of gaming.

      While I support the idea since I really loved the game, I highly doubt (like 99% doubt) they're gonna do it considering how bad Mana Khemia was received in Japan. The PTSD they got at that time was too strong that they won't dare touch it ever again, especially with how kinda badly the "Atelier series" is doing in the passing time. But now that THICCNESS has come to save the day, the chance of it happening may probably rise in the future, probably.

    • @niafarquem5402
      @niafarquem5402 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Mr. Rogue in most of the atelier game, there’s time limit in each chapter or when you moved to new main quest. Meaning we’ll be given days/hours to finish the quest or main event. The time passes when we travel to the areas, when battling and also during alchemy. The more complicated the alchemy recipe, the more time it takes. In atelier rorona, the time passes even when you move to the next frame even in the same area. But you’ll eventually be able to create items that can reduce the amount of time passes.
      In some instalments, you can only choose certain events so you’ll need to choose which characters you want to know more and you won’t be able to view everyone’s story.
      I’m not sure how the other players feel but it really stressed me out. I feel like I can’t do anything carelessly because I won’t have enough time.
      I played atelier ryza and I enjoyed the freedom the game give me. I can also feel the depth of each characters because they have many interactions with each other as they traveled together. Each characters are great and I just in love with Ryza. She’s strong willed and fun which is different from atelier’s usual naive mc.

    I've been playing this series since the first game released in the usa. So much has changed. And while yes alot has changed we saw the rise of alchemy in the first three then in mana-kelemia we saw the fall of alchemy. And these last games since then how the fall has affected the world and how it was forgotten then it's slow rebirth. Each story is short but the overall worlds story is truly grand. I think I still have the first three games in storage. People should see how the original synthesis system was. That was a pain and more like a slot machine then skill.

    Game play

    Had one very gracious time limit due to its open world nature
    Hence why Ryza is more fun if harder to grasp at first

    Looks interesting! Been wanting to try a new JRPG franchise (I started Trails of Cold Steel bc of you this year). Any major JRPG series that this one would compare to?

    • @JRPGGaming
      @JRPGGaming  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's hard to compare Atelier to other series because it's one of the only series like it that regularly gets localised, it's most like what the Shining series has become over the last decade (Shining Resonance Refrain being the latest localised title).
      Atelier occupies this spot in between smaller scale/lower budget JRPGs and mid-upper tier JRPGs like Tales. They generally have a development cycle of 12-18 months with budgets on the lower end of adequate so you do have to go in with the right level of expectation.
      They mostly tell smaller scale, personal stories focusing on the main protagonist and a handful of other characters. The stories have somewhat of an open-structure, with optional scenes triggering in certain locations at certain times, and the expectation that you'll get distracted throughout by the main gameplay elements: Alchemy (crafting), Collecting, and Combat.
      Combat is turn-based and was pretty standard until Ryza which really changed it up a lot (for the better), Alchemy has been getting deeper and deeper as the series continues, and collecting (for materials and ingredients) has mostly stayed the same but functions like a dynamic treasure hunt - different tools can give you different materials from the same object (e.g. hit a tree with your weapon and get fruit, slice it with a farming scythe to get some bark, and chop it with an axe for wood.)
      The main sacrifices the series makes is in world size, graphics (on a technical fidelity level only - the art-style is fantastic), and the OST which I would normally describe as "fitting but largely forgettable" (with a couple of exclusions that fair better, including Ryza).

    So on a whim I got a copy of this for PS4, since it’s hard to find new. Came across your review to see if I should try it, and I definitely think I need to. I’ve never really played a slice of life anime game before, and the crafting system looks like it’s a blast. The mention of mini sphere grids definitely interests me. The OST clip you chose to play as well also helped sell me on playing this. I love a good OST if I’m going to be grinding in a game and it sounds like there’s some good stuff in this package. I am just about to add a message to my pinned comment regarding this but I have heard there are some issues with keyboard and mouse controls on the PC version. It might be worth it to check out the steam forums for the game to see if there are any major issues that are going to affect you.
      Apparently the PS4 version is very close graphically to PC so that is an option too!
      (Switch is also a great option, I just felt like I didn't really that get that initial wow-factor with the graphical jump from Lulua to Ryza but that's mostly a one-off novelty.)
