I didnt watch the video yet but I wanna say, thank you so much Eric for your content.I discovered your channel one year ago with your vida of best modern turn based jrpg part 1 and 2 and thank God i did cause i discovered some games like the trails games. Probably the best games i played ever and just yesterday i started Hajimari no Kiseki.I already had experiences cause my first games were wild arms( amazing game) and the famous ff7 original. Thanks to you i played suikoden too and understood why you love it so much. From the bottom of my soul im really grateful, ya tú sabes parceroo!
Mana Khemia 2 is one of the best games ever! And if you beat the game with both characters, an extra dungeon opens up where you can battle the light Mana!
You are one of those rare players who almost always talks about Turn Base RPG.
It's sad that us TBRPG were a norm back then and in just a short time we are becoming a rare type slowly.
Thx for the video, you always remind me of TBRPG that I miss playing as a kid and always go back to replaying it.
I wish TBRPGs came out more consistently again.
I love Okage. It's also a great introductory RPG. The systems aren't too complex and the challenge level is decent though some grinding might be required.
Man, seeing how Atelier series expanded, I actually hoped that Mana Khemia would be expanded as well
You don’t know how many times I searched the internet multiple times for Mana Khemia 3 when I played it on my PS2 years ago. Maybe they don’t want to develop two different Alchemy series
But imagine if they ever develop Mana Khemia while taking notes from modern Persona game.

Fate/Extra is a game I've been waiting to play. Hope the remake will really come.
Hell yeah Ar tonelico!! Finished the series, and kind of understand the LN sequel.

The Fate game was amazing one of my fav psp jrpgs
Super robot raise OG saga has some nice “writing” on those characters.
Exist Archive was a great experience! I wouldn't recommend it to everyone, but I would definitely recommend it to hardcore JRPG fans. One warning I'd definitely give to anyone who hops in, though: If you want to try to get the best possible ending on a single run... be prepared to GRIND.
When they reveal what has to be done to get the best ending, right before you face the first boss of the final gauntlet, a character instructs the boss to, "teach these children how cruel reality can be..."
and by god they do.
Fun fact: mana khemia is actually part of the main line atelier games

I really, really wanted to like Exist Archive as a Valkyrie Profile spiritual successor, but I just felt the dungeons felt incredibly repetitive and skill improvement fell really slow, plus being very grindy. I ended up leaving the game unfinished after a fair amount of hours.
Arc Rise Fantasia is awesome, but I did play it with original voices. Fuga and Hexyz Force are both amazing games. Ar Tonelico both 1 and 2 are fantastic, but I'm not sure if they really count as hidden gem. Fate Extra was surprisingly fun, and I'm glad it's getting a new release because I haven't played that game since it was actually recently released.
Thank you for reminding me of Lost Spheare. I'm sure I wanted to buy it at some point, but somehow I forgot. Now rectified it. 😀
mana khemia 1 has my favourite boss battle track, nefertiti. been using it as my ringtone and never changed it in years
The GBA had alot of interesting off the wall JRPGS as well, Zoids was fantastic, with the MEdabots games being fun
And yes, I know, idols but I think Omega Quintet is an underrated turn-based RPG. It's a fairly solid game but the fan service may turn off some people.

I wanted to get #9 on this list so badly, but it's so expensive now. Oh well, at least I have Arc Rise Fantasia.
Despite the horrible voice acting, Arc Rise Fantasia is a must-have JRPG for me. I wish some publisher would save this game from oblivion with a remake + sequel.
i have both mana khemia 1 and 2 still play them from time to time.
Love the Lost Sphear praise, it really is a good game. I adore Tokyo RPG factory. My order for the series is backwards of what is common though, Oninaki > Lost Sphear > Setsuna
Hexyz Force is a pretty solid classic RPG. To anyone interested though, I don't think there's any way to buy the software anymore, and I would not recommend buying second hand. Prices are insanity for what it is.
What an amazing game is Fuga: Melodies of Steel. Really looking forward to its sequel!

A game I recommend is another by Yasunori Mitsuda, Another Eden: The Cat Beyond Time and Space. It's only on mobile and Steam, so a lot of people might not play it. It has beautiful music and a lot of different stories, based on your characters
Just completed the Goddess of Time Arc 15 min ago and saw this comment. Yes, it's so underrated. I'm surprised the Persona, Tales and Chrono Cross collaborations didn't get the mainstream attention.

All mobile games suck, but sometimes it's not the game's fault. If I had to recommend one mobile game, Another Eden wins by FAR. (Ofc, being able to spend money to roll at characters is disgusting, and it does have that)
@@asdfasdf969 CMIIW. It has the same creator as Chrono Trigger and there are various homage to Chrono Trigger, like Cyrus the frog and the upcoming Ashtear.

I just finished a Let's Play of Arc Rise Fantasia. Was well worth the time.
Still need to buy Fuga melodies of steel, I was thinking of buying it last week but I ended up getting a couple of other games. I didn't really get into Exist Archive even though I have no idea why. I didn't expect to love Hexyz Force as much as I did.

Exist-Archive has an overall strong start, and an interesting concept. However, its method progression causes it to suffer, especially in the inevitable "spam x" method of combat.

Mana Khemia series I hope gets remastered someday. I love the games but my favorite will always be the first one. Probably never gonna happen. If they haven't done it for Tales of Xillia 1 and 2 yet, then they aren't going to.

I only have 2, and they're the last ones I played:
1. Touhou Soujinengi - Genius of Sappheiros
2. Labyrinth of Touhou 2 (now Labyrinth of Touhou - Gensokyo and the Heaven-Piercing Tree)
WARNING: They're not for the faint of heart. LoT2 incorporates party switching into the battle and levels can go up to 9999 on both sides. GoS is like Romancing SaGa.

Also I've played Ar Tonelico 2, got the Luca ending, and forgot most of it apart from the Reyvateils. The only thing that stuck with me is the what ifs, like "What if some mad lad decided to hack Ar Tonelico and make an app to fire off Song Magics like there's no tomorrow?"

3. Touhou Genso Wanderer (and Lotus Labyrinth R)
It's a Mystery Dungeon-like game with Touhou. Lotus Labyrinth R has you control a party of a maximum of 24, with 4 squads of 6. It is technically turn-based, with the turns being lightning-fast.
Exist archive: so basically its a valkyria profile type gameplay with isekai elements
Have you ever had a chance to play ms saga for ps2?. Just started playing it on my steam deck and I've enjoyed it so far.
i play fate extra like 50 times its my favorite game, and i love caster so much :)
I played fate extra it was what got me into the franchise I loved everything about it except that battle system and can't wait for the remake
Tokyo RPG Factory needs to go back to Turn-Based for their next game, but more importantly, they MUST increase the budget.
Endless Frontier and its sequel are SO fucking good

I just played through 7th dragon 2020 and it would fit well here
Surprised to see ar tonelico2 , it is a good game, playing the first help in understand some stuff , it also raise the stakes in some point, when you are about to use Replakia for the first time and a - Child of Light - appears, for those who played the first will thought , "you fricking kidding me!!!" . But the bug on the game kills it for most people, the last battle before the final boss, that boss changes forms, but for some reason the majority of copies, it just hardlock the game , it dont progress as the boss dont changed form, so you have to use a GS to input a code to fix it , or get so powerful you can kill it before it tries to change, there is also a way to get "infinite attacks" , so that also makes possible to finish that battle , Ar tonelico series has some banger BGM and song.
Mana khemia 2 is also a good game , the story has some turn , my only problem is the male MC is too edgy and focused on "revenge" .
There is also the retranslation for Ar tonelico 2, which fixes all its issues, including fixing the whole script, and also adds a few extra things.
Everytime someone say they like ar tonelico series and mana khemia, I'm so happy even though I'm not the creator and only a fan of the series 😂😂

Fuga is really good. Free on gamepass for who has access to it. A bit to expensive on the Switch for the moment. I missed Cross Edge on this list most.
Please tell me the Fate/Extra they're remastering is the CCC version 🙏
Fate extra is the hardest jrpg I've ever played. The combat system has too much guessing and it had me pulling out my hair

I wouldn't say Mana-Khemia 2 and Ar Tonelico II are hidden gems at least not in the U.S it's just people don't wanna pay the $50-90+ prices for the physical games and i don't see them available on the Playstation Network store either.Mana Khemia is a great series but it's rare to find a copy under $40 outta the series releases because people know what they are.

ARC rise fantasia Is Just Amazing. I have Just One issue with It that stops me for finish It: the enemies are visibile and you have to' exit the area to' make them respawn. In this way grinding becomes super Boring. Random encounters would have made the grinding way Better and easier.
The true PSP hidden gem Is Crimson Gem Saga. Hexyz force becomes Boring After a bit.
Fate/extra Is an hit or miss, depends if you like the combat system or not.
It is a shame how expensive some of these older gust games are now!

Word of advice wrt Exist Archive: If you have the choice, go with the PS4 version rather than the Vita version. The Vita version is both buggy and has a lot of general slow-ness that I understand isn't present in the PS4 release. I won't go so far as to say the Vita version is unplayable or anything, but the PS4 is a much better experience.
(Vita's more or less dead so maybe this is irrelevant at this point, but I just thought I should mention it.)

I can’t stand fate extra. That system is ok but too unpredictable sometimes. I almost threw my copy away it made me so mad.
