This is the house which began my TH-cam journey. A lot has happened since May 2023 with my channel as well as with this family. I chose this home to start with because, when I met with the homeowner, I could see how much shame she had about her situation and she just looked "broken." I knew how hard it was for her to ask for help and something about her just made me want to do whatever was in my power to help her get to a better place. She was so young to have been through so much. Now, nine months later, she and her son and second husband have moved out of this house because of the reminders of the trauma and abuse she suffered through with her first husband here. They are in a rental while they build a new home and I wish them the very best with this new beginning and hope that she can find some peace.

I think I found your channel when you only had like 5 or 6 videos. I got caught up, and I've been here ever since! Thank you for what you do for others. I wish I could do this, but I'm a member of the limb loss community, and just keeping up with my own home is difficult. It takes twice as long to do things as it did before I became a hip disarticulation amputee (lost my entire right leg) in 2019 due to osteosarcoma bone cancer. I'm only 44, and it has been a long 4.5 years in trying to relearn how to do things that used to be so simple and quick. I try not to complain because at least I can do most things that I could before. Vacuuming and mopping are probably the hardest and now my least favorite chores. I have a prosthesis, but it works nothing like a real leg would. Thanks for seeing us and for your empathy. It makes you feel not so alone. Keep up the great work! You are touching more lives than you know! 🎉❤
Awww...I so wish I could help. I can't even imagine how difficult that must be! Not only do you have to learn how to do things it totally different way than you used to, but I'm sure there are also issues with using the prosthesis and lots of neuropathy type pain that you are dealing with on top of all that. I understand the trying to stay positive, but I hope you also allow yourself to feel a little angry at the situation sometimes. I think it's not wrong to be a little upset and mourn the loss of what you once could do. But I'm glad to hear you haven't just given up. That's inspiring! 👏💜❤️😊
hoping that things get easier! my husband had a good friend that had bone cancer from the age of 8. he has had his right leg taken off in sections since then and now he has had it completely removed. but he has had his own mechanics business and I have seen him lift a transmission over his head standing on only one leg and bolting it in! he used to run on crutches with his brothers and jumping over fences in a pasture! so just wanting to encourage! know that it isn't easy, but I also know that if you are determined it will happen!

Thank you, Shelly! I don't want people thinking I'm a saint. I have my moments of frustration and overwhelm just like anyone. I don't love it when people only put the positive on their social media, so I figured I would throw in a little real life here and there. And I'm learning that there is almost always a good reason for people behaving in a way that can be frustrating. I think I've learned more about The Human Experience in the last 9 months than I have my whole life.😄

I had a major surgery that took close to 8 hours and when I woke up I was so bloated from the IV fluids it took almost 2 weeks before all the fluid was gone and I could move my legs. That was extremely humbling! You inspire me to tackle the problem areas in my home one at a time. Even small increments of time here and there are a success!
That sounds rough! And a lot can happen to a house in 2 weeks, so I'm sure the amount of stuff you needed to do was just piling up. Yes, one small area at a time can make a huge difference.😉

I am deep cleaning some areas in my home I have put off doing for years. Honestly ptsd associated with stuff..emotional attachment..and bad memories...bad energy in a space. is such a real thing. I am so proud of myself for what I have accomplished. It's slow going..and I stop alot because it emotionally paralizes me sometimes... and feeling guilty for parting with items is also a huge monster in my mind, but im doing it!!.. I have alot more to do but videos like this encourage me to keep pushing. 💪

Did they get rid of all the bugs? Otherwise that stuff going to the thrift store could spread them.
I haven't seen any live bugs since the first month I worked there because we have been treating everything with Borax and some other chemicals. I also washed all of the clothes before donating them. They went straight into a garbage bag and into the back of my truck, so I don't think there is any way that we sent anything along that could cause an infestation. I was trying to be very aware of that.😊

Hey don't beat on yourself for not knowing what was wrong with the family and why they'd made no progress. "Be kind" works both ways. They don't know what you might have been going through either and they chose not to be kind and communicate properly but instead to make excuses after excuses to prevent you coming back. Anyone would feel messed around by that, then to show up and with no explanation from them to find they hadn't done what they had said they'd do - well, what are you supposed to think? Communication is a two way thing and what happened is on them as much as on you. I'm glad you got the job completed in the end anyway. You do such great work on these hoarded houses, it's nice to see the end results.

I love history and hate technology, I am happy, silly and optimistic. I drive most people crazy. Those friends that do love me, really love me though and I love them. My spouse has only one real leg, but does use a prosthetic most of the time. She does use both shoes when she use her fake leg, but obviously can't otherwise. But she has a buddy that is missing the opposite foot, and they often joke around about exchanging the shoes they don't need.
Oh my goodness. What a way to make the best out of a tough situation! That's hilarious! After I put this video out, my sons pointed out that most people would still probably use both shoes because they probably have a prosthetic and use a shoe on the prosthetic. So, I guess there isn't too much of a need for single shoes.🤷♀️😁

What is the limb loss community? I lost my right arm in 2012. I had a fall and destroyed the blood vessels in my arm and it wasn’t able to be saved. I am sorry that you lost your leg. I wish all good things in your life. Take care.🙂
I think you may be the person I was talking about on this video. Either you or someone else had lost their arm and told me about some of the things that they have to do differently and how they have adjusted to doing those things and have gotten pretty good at it. Here's my weird household quirk: I love sanding. Not the accidents that lead me to have to patch walls, but sanding the putty/wood filler/what have you so it's smooth and even... that's the good stuff, LOL. Watching it is a close second!
I'm also glad for your honesty in talking about your frustrations with the work. Not that I'm glad you were frustrated, but I always wonder what goes on "behind the scenes" so to speak. Pretty much every channel like this only talks about the upsides, which I can understand why, but y'all are human, after all, dealing with other imperfect humans, and so I'm always thinking, do they never get taken advantage of? Am I a bad person because I would get frustrated in their shoes? Are they actual saints with endless stores of patience beyond us mere mortals? What's the secret and can it be bottled for purchase?!? But no! It's all about the editing decisions to not discuss roadbumps. However, I'm grateful that you did here. No bad guys, just real people on both sides living their complicated, real lives... we really don't know what's going on in other people's heads. A good life lesson. :)
I love this comment so much! Yes, we absolutely get frustrated behind the scenes, but don't always show that because I don't want to bring a lot of negativity into my videos, but I also like to be honest from time to time that it can be very frustrating/overwhelming to deal with some of these situations. I know Mack did a live rant session where he just went off and was cursing and just so upset, but he ended up taking it down because I think he regretted doing that a little bit, but I actually loved that he let all that frustration out because there are moments that this is really, really difficult. Things I never would have thought of when I started this, like dealing with all kinds of personalities. To be perfectly honest, I had my first panic attack in a few years when I very first spoke to the homeowner of this hoarder house I'm working on because she was talking so fast and throwing so much information at me that I didn't know how to deal with it. I finally had to just stop her and let her know that I was feeling a little overwhelmed and could she please wait until we met in person to give me all the information because my brain was about to explode. And now that I have worked there three different days, I am actually really enjoying her different personality, but I really thought there was no way I was going to be able to work on that house with her there. I have learned probably the most important thing to get along with all of these different personalities is just to hear them out. They have been through so much trauma and people have abandoned them because of all of their issues, so they really just need someone to listen and not judge them. It's amazing what just that simple thing can do to be the Catalyst for some change in their lives.
That was a super long response, but it felt good to get that all out.😊 Thanks for asking those questions. No, I'm not a saint, but I am learning a lot about how trauma and mental illness affect people differently. It's been very eye-opening and has been a huge blessing to me to see the most vulnerable parts of people.

It's completely understandable that you were upset with people when they didn't follow through, even though as you found out later, there were good reasons for it. The reason I say it's understandable is that there ARE people, (even though it wasn't these people), who seem to have one emergency after another ALL the time...at least one per month. Real emergencies can happen frequently at times I know, which makes it hard sometimes to decide who really has had that many emergencies and who really hasn't. For one example, I was helping a woman and her husband to the tune of 200 to 300 dollars a month for a handful of months, because every month there would be some new emergency. I finally figured out, in that particular case, that I was being used because they knew they could get money from me and were very manipulative, so I've stopped being a doormat. As I said, sometimes in the beginning it's really hard to know who is being real and who isn't though.
You are absolutely right. There are people who will totally take advantage of you. I should have known based on some of my interactions with this homeowner that something else was going on, but in the moment of frustration, I made an error in judgment rather than just asking what might be going on. But she was also very understanding and apologized profusely for not having told me what had been going on, and it was totally legit. You were good to recognize that you were being a doormat and cutting off that financial lifeline. It's unfortunate that there are those types of people out there.😞

So true about not knowing what folks are going through. Even if you are trying to be in someone's life and think you have a view of it all, you may find out how very much there is trouble beyond what you could have guessed. We started finding out a lot more about a family member's situation when a sudden trip to the hospital turned into needing to be in this person's home and step in to help with day-to-day living. It was shocking to find the disarray of not only the property but also finances and seeing so much more of the issues that were a concern be just worse than we had guessed. We all are just one sudden event away from everything being in control to just complete chaos. And some are better at appearances and keeping things together well on the surface, but then something unexpected comes up and that facade can't keep going. Thanks for your videos, your insights and reminders, and for getting into the messes and bringing the beauty into it.

Hi, maybe Mack from Midwest Magic Cleaning has used that Editing software, mabe he could give you some help or advice? Love your videos & how honest you are about things.
He actually uses Premiere pro, which is probably the most complicated software to learn, but I already hit him up to see if he knew anything about my editing software and he doesn't, unfortunately. He has been helpful in other aspects of my computer and storage, etc., though.
