After Years of Challenges, This Family Needed Some Hope

- Cammy and her family have been through a lot the last several years. Cammy, herself, has exocrine pancreatic insufficiency (EPI), which was only recently discovered as the cause of her very rapid weight loss. She has other comorbid conditions along with the EPI and just a couple of weeks ago had to have a feeding tube placed due to the diagnosis of failure to thrive as an adult and to replace some of the vitamins and nutrients her body has not been getting, which has caused a plethora of other conditions as well. Some of this was talked about in the first video of this series (see the playlist), and more information on her very serious condition will be in the next video.
Her husband also has been diagnosed with severe narcolepsy and cataplexy, which causes him to fall asleep in some unusual places and the cataplexy means that even sudden sounds or strong emotions can cause him to go limp. He has had to take 4-5 naps a day in order to survive, which makes having a job difficult, but he has managed as his employer has allowed him to work a lot from home.
There are other issues they are dealing with as well, which I will talk more about in this video. Please just remember that everyone deals with hard things and we all handle things differently. Judgmental comments will be removed immediately.

I worked with a woman at an insurance company years ago who had narcolepsy. She would fall asleep at her desk. Others made fun of her and that wasn't nice. She was a good soul.

Woo! Alright, some narcolepsy representation here on the channel!
Narcolepsy, even without cataplexy, is an extremely frustrating disorder to live with. I completely understand why this is home is "unorganized" as someone that also has narcolepsy.
Anything that requires a lot of energy - like cleaning - is really, really hard with narcolepsy.

I’m sorry you have Narcolepsy too. It’s so frustrating for him as he’s used to being the strong one and it’s gotten worse through the years! Narcolepsy is so hard for people who have never seen it in action to fully appreciate the challenge it presents! Hugs!❤
Whoa that change was incredible! Looks like a brand new kitchen! 🤩 I have a really funny story about the “warming/storage drawer”. Well, it’s funny now. I always had electric ovens throughout my life prior to my husband and I moving into our first (very small) home. Our kitchen was so small it couldn’t accommodate a standard size oven, so we used this little 20” oven that you would probably put in a travel trailer or something. It was a gas oven, and it had a drawer. Well, I thought it was for storage. So I put all my cutting boards in there. One day, shortly after moving in, we decided to grill outside and bake some potatoes in the oven inside. After a little bit, we started seeing smoke coming out of the kitchen window. In a panic we rush inside and there’s literal FIRE 🔥 coming out of the back of the vent of the oven! We get it put out, and tried to figure out why the oven caught fire. Well, come to find out that drawer was neither for storage nor for warming, it was the broiler drawer!! 😱 All my cutting boards were ruined, but we were ok with that because the house didn’t burn down and everyone was ok! The oven still worked too (amazing!). So I ended up getting an apron that said “Do you smell something burning?” on it as a memorial of that occasion.

Yeah it’s hilarious now and gets brought up from time to time, “remember the broiler drawer?” 🤣 When we moved into our new place, the oven is electric, I checked out the drawer (this is actual storage) and was like “honey should I put my cutting boards in here?” So 14 years later we’re still getting a good laugh out of it!

@@Mowzelle my hubby somehow unknowingly started our gas range with a towel he had wrapped around his waste by taking medicine before his shower and setting them down in a small bin on the gas stove then walked away. The smoke alarms went off but not before a bin of fish oil and testosterone vials caught flame. You better believe I aired out the house after that one. The LAST thing I want is a house fire or for my voice to change. 😆🤪

Our pastor reminded us in church this morning, that helping others rejuvenates ourselves. Unfortunately, it’s also true that it can deplete us. Too often, these opposing truths are not taken into account. If we only adhere to the first, without taking into account, the second, we can end up eating ourselves up from the inside out. I’ll be keeping you in prayer, my sister.

I am a disabled person and I have been thinking a lot lately about what could make my life better. The thought I hit on was that I need more ease in my life. I am not totally clear on how to achieve that, but one thing I can think of is that I want to identify times when things don’t feel easy. Our kitchen has became a bit cluttered and I find myself struggling to find and extract the things I want to use from our overstuffed cabinets and drawers. I don’t have the energy to do a full kitchen decluttered so my plan is that when I hit those moments of things feeling like a struggle, I will take a moment to evaluate what doesn’t belong in that space.
Oh my gosh, I love this so much! I'm actually going to screenshot your comment to possibly share in a future video because that makes so much sense to me when I think about being in that situation and not able to do a full declutter, but just to recognize those moments when it feels overwhelming and to immediately do something about it in that moment. Thanks for sharing!

My husband and I have had covid for a week with no energy to clean - the house is already trashed. I can't imagine fighting chronic illness, juggling kids schedules, and having anything left at the end of the day :(

Yes, it's true- the Dark doesn't stand a chance while good people act and share like this. I think of some of my darkest times and who helped me and they are memory angels (many now deceased) but still Angels. Light is there and its expression is a wonderful, spiritual thing. I was listening to her talk about being ill and wanting to be who she was before her illness. I can so relate, we just did a huge purge in my home. When I’m ill I love to buy because it makes me feel better. Once learning this lesson, I was able to stop. This was just a small thing I heard in the video and it so helped me. 🙏 please remember to take care of yourself first. ❤
I've always used the drawer under the oven for storage, but when I was a child, I was told by someone that it is really a warming drawer. So you aren't the only one who thought that.
My guess is that they usually were for warming back in the day, but more people used them for storage than for warming, so they stopped including the warming function as a standard feature.

There is a wonderful Greek family in the home town of Bonnie and Cammy and they own an AMAZING restaurant called The Mandarin (Chinese food, I don’t know why but they have some Greek Asian fusion dishes) it has been in USA Today and all the sons are Doctors. Skedros is their name. Wonderful people!!

I just have to say that I adore your videos. You have such a friendly and down-to-earth personality that really shines through. I can easily envision this happening to so many people! Especially when in the homeowner's mind that the situation would be "temporary" and they'd get things back together when life returned to "normal". But then you realize that this is the "New Normal" but by then you're completely overwhelmed and don't know where to turn. And many people are so worried about being judged that they won't ask for help, even with people they consider close friends or family. Channels like yours are like rays of sunshine and hope in a really dark world. It gives me faith that there are amazing people in the world and kindness goes a long way.
Exactly! People want to be independent but sometimes people don’t get better or don’t for a long time. It has been a hard lesson to ask for help sooner rather than later. My pride as a homemaker and an independent woman hurt my family until I realized I had no way out of the situation without help. It’s a life and death situation now for me health wise and I am treating maintaining the new cleanliness that way too. Thank heaven for Bonnie and Lanita. I never want this mess to be anything close to this again!
