Dear Liam And Valerie. My Family And i have been following your videos for a long time now. We really like them. We are a multi-culti family: British, South Africans and Spanish living in a SMALL Stadt in BW. I just wanted to thank you because your videos have helped us going through the difficult adaptation process. We didn’t speak any German and your humor made us feel understood, as somehow we weren’t the only ones feeling weird. So thanks! Und weiter so!

I LOVE how Valerie pronounces British as 'Bri'ish'.. it's insanely accurate to a lot of Southeast England accents!
Also I'm S.E English and my partner is native German (Hamburg) living in S.W England so can relate to a lot of the content. Especially my love for German food and culture. 💜🇩🇪🇬🇧💜

Insane. A podcast after following you channel for just a few months. I personally am learning German so, all the skits just make it entertaining way for me to keep in touch with german. Though hearing that Liam is still struggling with it, its clear that I have a long way to go but, and hopefully I'll see more skits with the german persona doing german things with Linkin park songs. Great podcast btw.

I love the characters you play. Valerie you have picked up Liam’s English accent, in much of your conversation. I understand the culture shocks. I went from a Scottish culture to a southern English culture and I had a headache for a year. Later, I moved to the US, and there was still a culture shock but not as great as the first. I couldn’t understand much for a year. American, at least in the area I’m in, use a simplified English. British English has many more regional accents, and we have a lot more similar words but with subtle differences.
I miss UK humor, so you make me laugh. I also loved the German stereotypes. I used to speak German & French, but since I’ve been in US I use neither and have never seen or heard any Europeans, sadly. I love your content and you are a great team, and also a wonderful couple.

When my Mother was 16, her parents sent her from the USA to a "finishing school" for girls in Germany. Mom spoke no German and lived with her aunt just across the border in Czechoslovakia. All of the classes in the school were taught in French, but outside of the classrooms, everyone spoke German and there were German literature classes as well. In addition, Latin was taught. On returning to the USA, Mom taught French, German and Latin. She and her parents often spoke Czech., esp. when they didn't want me to understand. There were always books and newspapers at home in a variety of languages. Exposure to other cultures makes us less insular and that's a good thing.

This was great fun to listen to.
Knowing quite a few Brits, I think its amazing that Valerie did not only pick up the language and the accent so well, but also the mentality. Like this whole not taking oneself too serious, making jokes whenever they are funny and not when they are appropriate. I think Valerie you are still very polite, but you're getting more and more into it.
I want to hear more of that savage humour 😂
Or situations where the humour got you into trouble in Germany.

I've been watching your videos for a long time, and as someone from Spain living in Germany, I really relate to most of the situations you describe. :)
Just wanted to share that it's definitely possible to switch to German. My boyfriend is German, and we started off speaking English because I couldn't speak German at the time, and it felt like the fairest option. But over time, we've been slowly switching to German. At first, it didn't feel fair or natural, but it doesn't have to be every conversation right away (just sometimes, when you feel like it). With time, you might find yourself speaking almost entirely in German. :)

Trapped in Germany by a German woman ...🤣
Her price for that is getting more used to speak English than German, maybe 😃
Hey! That was really nice and very funny! And now I'm wondering which city you've taken into consideration for moving to. One of the really big ones like Munich, Stuttgart, Frankfurt, Köln, Leipzig, Hamburg or Berlin. Or rather something like Ulm, Nördlingen, Heilbronn, Würzburg, etc.
I'm already looking forward to your next episode.
    Greetings from Upper Swabia
    Tschüssle

Believe me, Google (YT) knows the heck of a lot better where you are from than you would like to believe. (regarding the conversation at around the 5 minute mark)

Could just alternate between English and German. One English episode, then a German one and so on.

Part of the appeal for me as I lived in Germany and did some of the mistakes that Liam might have made or at least made in the content. Some of the things made sense whereas others did not. That was annoying. I remember a woman getting mad at me for picking out rhubarb stocks at the market. Apparently I was suppose to point and she was suppose to just take an amount and sell it to me. I did not want the dirty, yellowish ones and she did not like this. The other customers agreed with her and so I left. From their perspective they thought that they were right, but I did not want to pay for lousy rhubarb.

Hi Liam and Valerie! I really like your content, congratulations on a great job :) I'm from Portugal and moved to Germany last September, so there are a lot of cultural differences that I'm still struggling to understand. I don't know if you guys really want to share something more private, but I would really love to know how you two met and all the first stages (meeting parents, friends, living together) and missunderstandings because of the language barrier

I forgot what the concept is called. But there are studies about couples where one or both speak a foreign language with one another.
The emotional language is set to English in your case, if you would have started in German your emotional language would be German.
The "problem" if you want to call it that about switching the language is that your complete life (emotional and otherwise) is organised and negotiated in English.
If you (also Valerie) try to switch, you both lose the ability to express your emotions and properly fight your fights.
There's an additional filter both of you have to pass to properly understand what the other want to say. (That is independent of the level, that's also the reason why everything works in English, no matter if Valerie speaks everything perfectly or not).
Your emotional base-line is English, expressing them in another language is a very hard thing with the same person.
Quite interestingly if you speak more languages you negotiate that with every person you meet (this traverses into other types of relationships as well).
I am sure thatif you are aware about that and you really would like to switch, there are possibilities but the question is if it's really worth it.
Because it ironically can cause a big struggle doing that and you have to renegotiate your emotional base layer.
That's also the reason why friends don't switch to English for training. It's so to say not "bearable". The natural understanding is lost.
But also, Liam I think you underestimate the level of German you're able to speak.
All those joke you make and all those German customs that you use by now in your mother tongue sign towards you blocking yourself.
You have a way better understanding and ability to express yourself without hitting a brain fart than you're able to consciously recognise.
Just relax and switch zu Deutsch. Ignorier alle Fehler, bzw. mach soviele wie du willst. Du hast viele deutsche Laute sehr gut gemeistert.
Cheers mate, and keep it up. Great content und ihr beide wirkt wirklich sehr angenehm.
