nice video, and nice to see the explanation of design choice. Even though this is not my type of design I enjoy hearing stories. Personally, looking forward to the Matrix Lab's Magic 3 keyboard. For around the same price point, I prefer its cleaner top design.
now i may be biased given my profile pic, but i like it simply because it seems fun! the earring design on the bottom is cool just because it's different--i guess ppl just want to keep their rectangles (which isn't a bad thing either, i love my tofu!). so why not? "if you vibe with the aesthetics, the sound, the feel...that's all that really matters" is a perfect description for this. good luck with the gb marin!!
yeah isnt it ironic that in a community about preference and things that appeal to each taste, there is so much criticism and backlash to things that dont appeal to the high end masses i dont like anime, i have no idea who these characters are or the references, therefore i wouldnt see myself using something like this, but it looks good and the options that it provides with the interchangable weights and badges does open up quite a great deal of possibilities, it doesnt appeal to me, and that's ok, for whoever it appeals to its gonna be a good product
Without the initial capital to kickstart the project, it really is very hard to sell a custom board. Especially when it caters to a specific audience. It's either you get lucky and strike a balance enough to make the money back, or you struggle getting past the IC phase and eventually scrap the idea altogether leaving you with a one off prototype and a hefty sum to pay. I do like the idea of defying what can be possible with this board, because I see the Cosplay TKL as a protest to call out the hypocrisy inside the community. Everything hangs on the idea of subjectivity, but everyone wants everyone to have the same opinion on what's hot and what's not. They're going a path that only goes steeper from here, and I really hope they go through with this.
might be hard but maybe in the future when prices for keyboards overall decrease, or if budget/price forward companies can improve processes to make it happen :3 who knows
If you want affordable and simple custom TKLs, there are a ton of them available now. NovelKeys NK87 or KBDFans Tiger 80 to name a few. Also, this board is highly customed and not easily mass produced. This is not limited to keyboards, if you want to buy a one of a kind anything, it will be expensive.
I just find this board to simply be fun! Like if you are into the show and Marin you'll probably like this even more anyways. I like the implementation of her earrings for the back because it feels very Marin. Not the biggest fan of the waves myself, but it's not bad. I also absolutely love the weight with the 3 different Marins on it. It would be nice if the board was a little cheaper just because I don't think I myself can drop that amount of money again for a board, but if it feels and looks as premium as you say then I can be okay with the price. Overall, I think the board is really nice and it caught my attention. I don't really get the flack for it being a weeb board, like okay? you don't have to get it if it's not your taste but don't give the creators shit for making a somewhat memey fun looking board.
oh I agree I think apart from some proto issues, price would be the biggest point and if it can be close to like $400 for everything included I think it's not a bad option considering the aesthetics and sound of it :)
I mean I'm a weeb but I don't get the divide, like yeah it's expensive and not to everyone's taste but isn't that the nature of a hobby that's built around preference? I've personally only been wowed by a few hyperstylized boards, and am totally okay/would rather pay less for a board with a bland/minimalist design like the CK Bakeneko or Freebird TKL
I don't think every project has to appeal to everyone. That said this one is going to lose much of its appeal even for the target audience because of the price. I get tributes and niche crossovers and all that, but you have to be realistic with your expectations given for 600 you could get an amazing keyboard. If your competition is some top tier boards or even two whole mid tier 65% boards, then you need to deliver something amazing or innovative. This isn't really either of those things. I think that's the biggest criticism I have for general appeal. As for weebs who like that particular show and character? They're gona have to REALLY love both of those things to even consider this. You've locked yourself into an almost impossible task to meet MOQ because your target audience is a tiny sliver of anime fans, a tiny sliver of the show fans that like that character, then a tiny sliver of those who want a custom mech, then a tiny sliver of those who want to pay $600 USD for one. Your concept is fine, but what you want to do with it isn't. You will need to compromise or reaching MOQ will be a miracle.
Price is definitely being worked around think as of today I've locked it at least 100 dollars lower if not more but constantly looking for ways to deliver the promise while keeping the integrity of a premium board
I wonder how the magnets are working with a aluminum board? I have seen this a few times now when someone places magnets on a Alu board and it sticks, I find it strange as this should not be possible if its an Alu board
I always wanted to get my hands on a weeb board. It's so hard though. You gotta either have clout or be good at designing which unfortunately I don't have either.
In a scene where 65% keyboards come out every day, and people are trying to create boards that are inoffensive and universal (neither is a bad thing), I think this board is pretty neat. It's so incredibly loud and I love it. If I'm going to spend my money on a metal rectangle, I at least want it to stand out. Hope the designers figure things out, and don't get discouraged because of the hate.
Exactly, the designer specifically wanted to make this theme keyboard. Being critical of the quality, layout or delivery is fair game, but critiquing on the designer’s preference for their dream board is just hating. If people don’t like weeb boards, then go buy a Mode 80, NK87 or the hundreds of TKLs that’s available right now.
i really apreciate your help with dowloanding this software

Such a clean video dude!! Your style is really showing through with the new vids I'm fkn glued. Love it!!

my dress up darling is my top anime of this year. i need this board
not even a weeb but god this board is beautiful and not something ive seen before. hope this project can go places
If we could have affordable simple TKL below $300 price range with the 2 badges and engraved weight like this, maybe it would be more attractive imho

As Marin fan, I hope this board turns out well. There’s a few issues I still have with it but wish the best for the creators.
feel free to voice your issues/concerns to them they're a very open team :)

I like the weight and the 2 badges but don’t see the earrings part of the design nice. A but out of place imo. Other than that, it looks great

Personally the only problem I see about it currently is the ano. Especially on the back. Most of the hate is unjust. Good video
yeahh that's just mainly due to the manufacturer :/ i don't think they're going to move forward with who made this proto
Different strokes for different folks. How's the copyright on this? Are those badge and weight designs cleared?
I wonder how the magnets are working with a aluminum board? I have seen this a few times now when someone places magnets on a Alu board and it sticks, I find it strange as this should not be possible if its an Alu board
there's another magnet on the inside of the cutout that holds the badge in place!
