My husband and I were ecstatic when we realized we had everything on hand to make this for dinner last night, and the tuna melt was amazing!!! We ended up splitting a second sandwich after we ate our first because we couldn’t get enough. We then promptly fell into food comas 😆 this recipe is 1000% going into the rotation
A pinch of black salt/Kala Namak is a great addition for fans of tuna salad with hard boiled egg. The sulfur content of kala namak adds a hard boiled egg yolk taste.
I made it! The garbanzo bean/jack fruit combo is MONEY. I think I might have gone a different way with seasoning, including furikake, and Korean seasoned seaweed to give it that ocean-y sensation. Lots of vegan mayo, sugar-free pickle relish, celery, onion, smoked paprika, black garlic salt and a generous splash of Texas Pete. Served on take and bake bread slices. OMG! So good! And when plugged into Myfitnesspal's recipe calculator, super low calorie for how filling! Thank you, sir!
I made the tuna once and shared it with friends on my job and they loved it. I shared it with the Chef at my school and he wants the recipe and I can’t seem to stop making it because everybody now wants it. Thank you so much for restoring what I lost when I went vegan.
Not sure if you’ve ever considered merch, but I would buy “Super Dang Good” or “Nooch. As dictated by vegan law.” in a hot minute, if you ever made it. 😁 Cannot *wait* for your cookbook!
Dude! Thank you so much for this recipe. I really miss tuna sandwiches and the chickpea version I previously made was not good. I can't wait to try your version. We vegans will never go hungry!😃
I always loved tuna sandwiches as a kid and haven't had that in years! Thanks for this recipe bc now I'm gonna make this for me and my partner for lunch later in the week 😊
That vegan tuna salad looks so delicious. I am ravenous about tuna salad(I add chopped honey crisp apples for sweetness). You've given me new veggies to add 😋
Made the all-jackfruit version of this last night. We let it sit overnight to really absorb all that dill goodness (I used dry dill and chives at a 1 Tbsp fresh = 1 tsp dry ratio). Had our first sandwiches on soft white bread today with lettuce and thinly sliced tomato and onion, and they were superb. Your dressing is so flavorful. Waiting now for hubby to get home so we can try the tuna melt version for dinner. This opens up a whole new world of jackfruit recipes that I'd been avoiding because it sounded like too much work separating the seeds. You were the first one to suggest just chopping the seeds right into the rest of it, which I did, and they were indistinguishable from the rest of the mixture. Going to be trying some jackfruit pulled "pork" next. 🤤
I too started not caring about the seeds and not only do they not alter the texture in any noticeable way when you process them, you get more out of your can of jackfruit.
This is pretty similar to something I've made before using just chickpeas as a base (jackfruit isn't very available, also protein) but I also used to around that amount half a pack of silken soft tofu and black salt, because I liked those tuna egg sandwiches.
You can also make something like this in your food processor. Pulse your base to desired consistency, remove and set aside. Add veg and pulse. Then add base back in, mayo, and mix by hand.
Going to give this one a try as I’ve made the chickpea version a few times but there’s something about the texture I’m not super keen on lol. I’ve tried taking off all the skins too, still just a bit odd… Tasty, yes, but… So I’ll try yours. Bought some jackfruit now, so I’m giving in it a go today. Fingers crossed! Thanks for the channel. Ace content
Red kidney beans make the best texture and taste to me. Easy Half mashed beans , celery diced fine, sweet or red onion diced fine, hellmans mayo , little salt, pepper, ground 1/4 nori sheet, few fine diced bread and butter pickles.
As someone who went vegetarian at 12 (16 years ago now! Vegan 8 years ago now) and never tried a lot of these foods because of the household I grew up in, I appreciate the perspective of someone who has tried all of these things.
Hi There! I am so excited to have found your channel. I am life long vegetarian and the thing that I missed the most was a good tuna salad sandwich! AND a tuna melt too. I am gearing up to try this recipe. I bought your cookbook and it just arrived today. Looking forward to jumping into the recipes.
It’s actually crazy how similar in texture and looks jackfruit is too tuna, I’m not even vegan and I made this just to try it and it was delicious and had the same eating experience as an actual tuna melt
When you ate the cold ‘tuna’ melt I had an epiphany. I am not a fan of warm melted vegan cheese, so, I made a grilled cheeze and let it cool on a rack until room temperature; it was perfect with a bowl of chili. I will try your recipe for jackfruit tuna for sure.
I got a question does impossible beef meat tastes like normal beef I can't try them because I am Hindu and cows are sacred please let me know in the reply and you are the most underrated vegan cooking channel ever seen good job keep it up
It does! The Impossible burger is pretty much indistiguishable from real beef to the point that I thought my order got messed up a few times when i've ordered them from restaurants. The Beyond burger is pretty good too but has kind of a funky aftertaste.
@@SCARYxKITTY It's honestly the texture and look of the patty that gets me, on multiple occasions I have thought that they messed up my order and gave me a meat one.
Wow! This made me totally rethink jackfruit! I always used chickpea. I made a tuna melt after seasoning with kelp overnight. It didn’t have as much as a “fish” flavor as chickpea but it was still amazing! Thanks!!
I'm not a vegan, but still I'll say u have the best recipes without any animal products😊💜like it's our wish to be vegan or not, it's u'r nd our matter, but u really deseves an appreciate 💜keep going cool😇
recipe looking great as always! so happy to see your channel getting more views and subscribers, been waiting for your channel to get noticed more! i preordered your cookbook a few months back and i'm so excited for it to come out! cant wait to try all the recipes
I never thought to use jackfruit for vegan tuna. I've tried chickpeas and even soaked sunflower seeds blended. But nothing looks as good as the vegan tuna in this video. Can't wait to try it. Thank you.
Capers are dope. I usually mince green olives and the pepper. Celery seed and celery leaves are also my personal favs for extra oomph. Nooch to taste. Mmmmm
Hi. Your recipe looks really good. And you seem like a lot of fun. You don't need background music though. For people who are listening to their own music, it's distracting. For people like me on the spectrum it's unpleasant. For people who are re-watching to get the ingredients or tips it's repetitive. My feedback to people who use it is you don't need it. A little bit of music when people aren't talking is okay. But when people are talking it really doesn't enhance the videos. I've probably left this comment on a bunch of channels but I only do it if I want to watch and finding it challenging to tolerate the music. So consider it a compliment and again thanks for your recipe. It looks delicious.
one of the things i miss most since going vego 5 yrs ago was tuna. the tuno ive tried hasnt been that good. gonna give this a whirl looks great cheers.
I miss tuna salad like crazy, and this recipe looks so good! I'm southern, so I liked diced egg in mine; you think some black salt would work with this?
In the UK there’s a vegan tuna substitute in an identical can called ‘Tuno’, it’s absolute garbage. No attempt to simulate the texture, flavour or colour. I’m with jackfruit for this one 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
i'm gonna try this but i'm gonna soak almonds in vinegar and use soy sour cream, and instead of sandwich bread im going to microwave harden Earth Seasons vegan flax beet loaf (it chars in toaster) celery is a no-go for my family, so we will use cilantro. thanks for this recipe
I know this is an older video but any idea how long this would last in the fridge? To me it seems like it would be fine if you prepped it for the week but I do not know much about jack fruit.
Please please make a version analogous to tuna mayo Japanese or Korean style where it is generally eaten inside rice balls, that’s the only way I ate tuna and I do miss it. Every other vegan substitute I’ve found or made just doesn’t seem to hit for this particular use. Also, I wonder how possible it is to make a spam subtitute from scratch (to use in things like Spam Musubi)? Great content and recipes as always 🧡 P.S.: Kewpie mayo (Japanese style mayo) brand does actually make a vegan mayo! It’s expensive tho :( but is absolutely necessary to have this kind for Japanese or Korean tuna mayo.
Awesome!! Yes I literally ate these for breakfast lunch and dinner when I first made them! So glad you dig them!
howd you fall into a food coma after 1 sandwich.

I've been making a variation of this with Garbanzo beans for ages. It's great on a cracker or in a sandwich. Now I'll have to try it with Jackfruit!
Not sure if you’ve ever considered merch, but I would buy “Super Dang Good” or “Nooch. As dictated by vegan law.” in a hot minute, if you ever made it. 😁 Cannot *wait* for your cookbook!
I like adding sliced in half red grapes and slivered almonds. The grapes add a nice sweet contrast and the almonds a nice crunch.
Yes!
Sounds like a Waldorf salad!
@Dorian Gray i usually get pineapple, mushrooms, artichoke, and fig sauce. It's delicious

i like marble bread for such sandwiches it's pretty fun and yummy
I used to love Subway's tuna subs back in the 90's....def gonna have to make this!
The sandwiches look great and the Community reference is nice touch. This is now officially a Streets Ahead Tuna Melt in my book!
That vegan tuna salad looks so delicious. I am ravenous about tuna salad(I add chopped honey crisp apples for sweetness). You've given me new veggies to add 😋
