  • My insights into the new GONG Pro Wingfoil Stabs - can you use stabs to accelerate your progression and access more radical front wings more easily? I think you can! I had a lot of fun testing these stabs with all the new front wings from GONG. What a week!

I'm 93kg currently on the Veloce H-L 950 and using the Fluid 42 just feels like not enough grip. Recently borrowed a Fluid 47 with significant improvement although still gets very loose if you don't keep the speed way up.
I do like a stab with some grip so tempted to order the Curve in similar size to the Fluid 47 along with the new Veloce v3 XL for light wind.

Interesting. I just ordered an Ypra-LS (1000cm²) and will first be using it with the Pro Fluid H stab 45cm which I already have. The stab is a bit on the bigger size for that wing but to start off should be perfectly fine. What I don't understand is some people talking about bigger stabs being "liftier" and others saying stabs don't provide any lift at all, just stability. But it's interesting that Gong advisors will also tell you that your can use different stabs for a given frontwing. Example: Ypra-S front wing. If you want to do waveriding / allround use you use the Fluid H stab. If you want to focus on freestyle you use the Freestyle H stab (which effectively is like a shorter fuselage). If you want to go racing / high speed you go for the Veloce H stab, which has very little lift/drag.

Stabs lift downwards. Which in turn causes the front wing to pitch up and generate lift. The less lift that the stab gives, the less you need on your front foot to counter this. This gives a less draggy set-up as there is less opposition between the stab and the front wing. But it is much more sensitive in pitch. Typically you’ll be fastest not with the outright fastest set-up but with a fast set-up which generates confidence - typically that view from a bit of stability 😊

thanks for that, was not sure if i pair my x-over with the right stab. now i'll order the curve stab to keep some easyness with more curve performance

I've ridden the X-Over v2 XL even with the Fluid H45, for example - it's also good! The system works really well to give a path forward to make the transitions to more radical front wings easier. For example, I started riding my Ypra XLS with the Fluid H47 which made it very accessible in terms of launch and pitch stability. Then I transitioned to the Fluid H45, where it got a lot faster, and because my launch technique was already improved from the experience with the wing, I didn't notice a loss in launch. Now I ride it with the Veloce H47, which is far smaller than the other two, and it feels easy. But I remember the first time I rode this front wing with the Veloce H47 stab - it was not easy at all! Using the stabs, I progressed with much more pleasure to the point where now I can really enjoy the full performance of this radical front wing.

@@wingfoildiary i'd like to dockstart so slow curve stab would be ok?

Actually for pumping, you need the wing to be a little more free in pitch - you will get this with a less powerful stab... therefore I would suggest that you take a Fluid H stab for this. Don't take it too small though, and then you can use it for both wing and pump.

Hi just got veloce xxl with veloce H stab 47 and struggling to nail down my jibes in < 15knots. Not stable. Very touchy. I am 96 kg. Any better stab or just practice more ?

Thank’s for this video. Is the stab curve better to progress on jibe ?

Hi there... for me, the thing that helps most with the gybe when you are starting is TIME, and you get more time with more glide. Personally, IF you have to choose ONE stab in the GONG range, then I would recommend the Fluid H stabs. The Curve stab for sure gives more grip in the turn, but it's not likely when you are starting to gybe that you are looking for a lot of grip and drive from the stab - just time. The Veloce stab will give you even more time, but it is more sensitive to foot pressure, and therefore probably not so easy for beginning in the gybe.
