No header heat issues.
I haven’t had any heat issues on any of my vehicles with long tube headers without any of that. If I did something to them, then I would do ceramic coating only.
Mine didn't come polished and the heads were bent. I bought it directly from Speed engineering's website too. BUT it's a solid kit! it came with everything I needed to install them and bolt on. I just had to re-bend the end of the headers to fix the flat corner. Probably happened while shipping, considering the condition of the box. Also wish the clamps were better, like mentioned in the video.
Fo yourself a favor and get the stepped clamps in the video description. Order those and it will help keep the exhaust from leaking and being noisy.

i installed the true dual kit on my cat eye a few years ago. Headers were the only thing id recommend. The rest of the exhaust didn't seal. hangers weren't even close to the correct locations. It ended up sitting on the crossmember under the bed. Also the pipe that goes under the trans from the drivers side was way too low and I ended up rubbing a hole in it multiple times. After a couple years the speed engineering mufflers came apart as well. The inside cylindrical piece of each muffler had come completely loose and mufflers were rattling. After cutting, welding, and fabricating my own hangers, it still makes some weird rattling noise every now and then. Overall with my experience, I would recommend Doug Thorley headers, and a custom exhaust built by a fabricator using v band clamps.
This is why I didn’t use their rear section, and had a muffler shop finish that section out. My dad used their entire exhaust system on his 2011 Chevy crew cab and the mufflers did the same thing that you described. He swapped to Magnaflow mufflers and is still running the rest without any issues.
I had the same thing happen to me. Mufflers came apart inside and the x pipe rattles on the crossmember. I had to get different clamps because none of it would seal otherwise. I put walker clamps and high temp silicone on the small pipe before sliding it in and that sealed it up.

@@dudemcgee256 ,,,,,I have a set of Speed Engineering Headers on my 98 C5 Corvette, the headers have V-band clamps, V Bands Clamps are a real PIA as far as I am concerned. It takes forever to get the damn things to seal up without leaking & then you have to run double Poly nuts on the clamps to get them really tight!!!!! Next time I pull the headers off my car I am cutting those V-Band collectors off & going with a slip on attachment.....
Sometimes it is how the v bands line up without a clamp and whether or not they are straight when welded on. However, the clamps that I used in the video worked great!
Slip y pipe on to header before bolting header in place and won’t be a need to lower transmission crossmember.
Yes, the x pipe and mid pipe section could go onto the header before installing the header.

They say the way to get Corvette sound is having identical setups on both sides and just run them straight back
Yes and I like the way that you put that “they say”. The real key to getting that sound is an x pipe with true duals vs a y pipe! Right behind that is “large pipe”. Most vettes are going to be 3” the whole way which changes the sound. Some trucks only have 2.25” or 2.5”. Never go below 2.5” true dual with x pipe. Lastly, the muffler choice. You won’t be finding Flowmasters on a Corvette lol

@@superior3384 Thank you. I did the brakes in the Front End 4/6 drop video and they stop very well. Lots of people are doing the 2019 GM truck front brakes but I didn’t want to add all of that weight on a vehicle that isn’t really all that fast. So they aren’t at all necessary to be that big and heavy.

Thanks. I am really not sure on that one. That might be a good question for Speed Engineering to see if they have heard of any issues in that situation. Maybe drop down to the 1 3/4” primary tube size if you are worried about clearance.
i have a 04 chevy silverado ls, ive had it 15 years, never any problems except auterator, ac compression tires.norm maintenance, i run the dog out of it, run Lucas stableizer and mystic oil. full delete on 02's rev limiter speed limiter, ghosts cam, daily driver 200,000 mile still runs hard and quick. only uses a quart of oil every 10,000 miles. i wanna refresh the motor and transmission, needs leaf springs and hangers and input seal on pumpkin. like your stuff, good advice. ill take any advice on getting more power oh and its true duel no x pipe no mufflers, just gutted cats. souds bad ass. 15 years had 17,000 when i bought it 200,000 now,
Thanks. Sounds like your truck has treated you well. The first things to do to get more power is the same things that I did on mu build so far. Tune, full exhaust (Long Tube headers with x pipe and minimum 2.5” dual piping), and a good cold air intake like the K&N CAI that I installed.
Done cracked the porcelain on one of the plugs probably why it sounds like it has a cam now haha. Bud Smolke did that in his Camaro and it sounded like it was cam'd. Not gonna lie I literally said ohhh he's gonna crack a plug when I seen you had them installed before bolting the header on.
None of the plugs are crack, and there are no missfires. I have done it this way a lot where I stab the header up and in, then lay it back, throw in the spark plugs, and then grab the header and start the bolts.

Them wires are gonna get burnt ...often... I switched to the shielded msd wires and haven't had a problem since .. I was getting 1 a month before
All that I had to do was put some sticky back heat wrap on the front passenger spark plug wire. The rest have been fine.
If and when you ever decide to shave tailgate handle maybe install a rear tailgate spoiler I have away of getting rid of the gap between the roll pan and tailgate. It is a clean look. If you want to see some pics let me know. Nice truck.

Harbor freight has the pliers I'm talking about. I think they run about 10 bucks for a set of 3. If you're careful they work great for hard to reach pinch electrical connectors too. 😊

You can, but if you ever need to remove any of it for any reason then that would be a big pain.
I didn't see rear 02s. Do you have the truck tuned? Long tubes can create false knock.
Yes, the truck has been tuned. You can also see the before/after Draggy Test of the stock tune vs my Whiplash Motorsports tune. Knock sensor sensitivity can be adjusted in the tune.
Just ordered this kit for my 04 1500. I was thinking about having vbands welded on the end of the long tubes and beginning of the xpipe as well as the center section on the cross over under the trans pan. I see you used the good lap joint clamps. Did you get everything to seal 100% with those clamps? In my part experience those sections closest to the headers are the hardes areas to get to seal.
Yes, everything was sealed up with the good clamps that I used. V bands are a good idea too, but will be a more expensive alternative.

Looks/sounds awesome! Only thing I'd be worried about is the crossover pipe hanging lower than the crossmember . You WILL end up bottoming it out 😓

I'd go with something like a Pypes M80 but not bad. I appreciate you doing a real dual setup when all the other truck boys make theirs sound like ass with just a single muffler delete. It'll sound sick with a big cam
I have never seen Pypes M80 but I might look that up and check it out. I can’t stand Y Pipe sound when it starts snapping and popping at mid rpms. 3” and X Pipe is the only way to go in my book.

hey man so i got these same longtubes but with the attachment to go to the stock muffler but my truck has 4 02 sensors and the longtubes only have the 3 holes, am i shit outta luck and need to get a different setup or can i run them with just 2 or 3 plugged in?
Their mid pipe only has (1) 02 bung on the off-road mid pipe set up because it has no cats. If you decide to run the off-road set up without cats then you don’t need the rear O2 sensors and can use the third bung for tuning (wideband). This will require a tune to turn off the rear O2 for off-road use. You should get a tune anyways when you do long tubes and full exhaust. You MUST have the 2 upstream 02 sensors because they are what helps to ensure the AFR is correct.

I am looking at some performance upgrades however it already as a corvette servo, air raid cold air intake, aluminum radiator with dual electric fans. As shown in the video, I used MSD Superconductor wires. You have to use wires that will get away from the primary tubes so they won’t burn up. Here is a link. There is also links in the video description.

id do a simple oil filter change as well never hurts those motors run forever if maintained.
I just did an oil change and filter 1,000 miles ago so it is good, but yes you totally should stay on top of oil changes for sure!

Need to do an equal length exhaust and sound like a Vette/CTSV
The main ingredients to that Corvette sounding exhaust is the x pipe and 3” pipe. It would sound more like a “Corvette” if I ran it out with tips instead of dumping it in front of the rear axle.
@@whiplashtv2022 True, but the real "main ingredient" is equal length pipes. The crossover pipe is what makes it sound like a truck. There a few of these truck on TH-cam with as close to an equal length setup as you can do and they sound damn close to a C6 vette. Check out Northern Performance's red Silverado.
@codydonovan7356 already have seen it, and again, the main ingredient isn’t equal length. Do an equal length system with a y pipe and 2.5” pipe and tell me how that sounds. Then do a 3” x pipe setup with 3” pipe and some mufflers that a corvette would have (not flowmaster, not glasspacks, not cherry bomb) and let me know how close that sounds to a corvette without equal length and compared to that equal length y pipe setup with 2.5”. I promise you the 3” pipe with x pipe sounds more like a corvette. That proves my argument that to sound like a corvette, you HAVE TO HAVE an x pipe and 3” pipe with appropriate mufflers. I never said that equal length won’t help, but is NOT the main ingredient.

Man I love the sound but I can’t get over the fact that the cross section hangs lower than the frame. I’m running a 5/9 drop and I hit frame on big speed bumps and it’ll just make it worse.
Yeah you would have to have that section modified to sit up as high as the frame.

The 2005 model does not have EGR
Which 02 sensors did you use front or back? Did you have to tune it for the deletion of the 2nd set or did you install bugs for the other 2 that would normally be after the cat converters. As it looks like you only installed 2 instead of the 4
You have to use the front 2 02 sensors because they help to control the fueling and how your vehicle runs safely. The rear 02 sensors are only there to measure cat performance. The Speed Engineering does not come with provisions for the rear 02 sensors.

It never goes down to 1 pipe. So it is true dual the hole time with an x pipe which adds hp and kills some of the drone.

The “old school” “true dual” system had no x pipe or h pipe. I get what you are saying there, but there is nothing incorrect to say that it is a true dual with x pipe system. Because it is a “true dual” system with an “x pipe” so that is a true statement. Yes, it sounds amazing in my opinion as well.

Your install/overall performance would have been better with 1 3/4" headers and 2.5" pipes on a 5.3...
The installation was smooth as shown in the video. 1 3/4” will only give you a little more power down low, but it won’t add power up top. 2.5” pipe won’t add any power over 3” and 3” sounds deeper and better. I’m extremely happy with how it turned out. I also have bigger exhaust so if I do a 6.0 swap then it can breathe good as well.

What inch mufflers did you get ?

Ill never understand why guys dump the exhaust under the trucks like that. you cant hardly hear anything but drone noise from the echo of the exhaust facing the ground and it being under the truck. If you put the exhaust pointing outward, out from under the truck you'll here rasp and growl and real horsepower noise. that truck sounds horrible brother
To each their own. Some like it run out some like it dumped. I got a ton of compliments on the sound and I enjoyed it. It wasn’t that bad of drone in the cab because the mufflers weren’t chambered.

I would have liked to have seen how the broken bolt in the head was removed, that's what scares me about putting headers on mine.
