  • This is my review of the MAONO AU-PM320S XLR Condenser Microphone Kit. It is a condenser microphone kit, which includes a MAONO XLR condenser microphone, microphone arm stand that clamps onto your desk, a XLR cable, wind muff and pop filter. It does require phantom power. I did not link the Focusrite Scarlett interface because the prices on Amazon were WAY too high. You can check other sites like Guitar Center or Sweetwater for a better price. Although, I do have the mic system itself linked below here.

      I would say, if you want to minimize background noise you can bring the mic closer to your mouth and turn down your input volume a little. I think that would probably be the best placement to reduce background noise.

    Excellent review. I have a NEEWER NW-700 and I want to upgrade to this since it is XLR and sounds better than mine. I only use a phantom power, do I need an audio interface for this 1 mic? Will it really make it that much better? Or needed? Thanks for the well rounded review surprised you don't have more subs/views. You got one from me.

    • @TobiasHolenstein
      @TobiasHolenstein  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey thanks so much! So it sounds like you have a box that you run your mic through that supplies phantom power right? From this box to your computer, how does it connect to your computer? I'm guessing you may be able to use this with the maono mic with that phantom power as well. As for an interface, some interfaces will sound better than others, depending on the preamp it has. So it is possible for a mic to sound better if you have it going through an interface, but the question is, will the difference in audio quality be worth you buying an interface. If you are planning on getting this mic, my suggestion would be to just try running it through the phantom power you have now. If you aren't happy with how it sounds you can try getting an interface like I did. Hope that helps!

    • @SpragginsDesigns
      @SpragginsDesigns 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TobiasHolenstein Thank you and this definitely helps. I was reading through your comments and this is what I want to buy and here is what I currently have setup and honestly after asking my subscribers, they say don't buy another microphone that even through BOSE speakers my mic sounds great (maybe after creating content for awhile we hear lower quality than others maybe?)
      Audio Interface: amzn.to/2Y9lpeT
      My Phantom Power Supply: amzn.to/2Q5VvEt
      My Microphone: amzn.to/3h3XEMS
      When I record on Adobe Audition it records so low I have to Normalize to -1db, then raise the gain by 8db. DeNoise and then it sounds decent. I never can just record and maybe do slight editing. Thanks for the super fast response, I respond to comments everyday so I appreciate that.
      Also, it seems the NEEWER NW-700 has an XLR cord it just doesn't say it in the title on amazon....

      @@SpragginsDesigns Ok got it man and no problem! I try to get back to most of my comments :) Do you already have that M-audio interface? because if you don't, I had another idea. But like I said the recording volume is extremely low no matter how high i speak. And it doesn't sound as good as I would like it and I figured an audio interface would increase that gain and quality but by how much really? Isn't the Phantom Power better than USB though? Would you recommend this mic on this video or the one you just linked me. I have those two on my list on Amazon and the interface and trying to figure out which one would be the best upgrade.

    Hello how are you? Thank you for the great video, quick question for you, I have the same mic, and a alto professional mixer. Do I still need an interface to make it work? Is interface the same as a mixer? I am confused.

    • @TobiasHolenstein
      @TobiasHolenstein  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, so I don't personally have experience with the Alto mixers, but just from what I can see from googling them, it looks like they mostly make live mixers (for live performances), however, it looks like they do also act as audio interfaces, so you should be able to use them with this microphone to record into your computer. This is what I found online:
      "Every Alto Live mixer has a USB connection that carries 2 channels of audio from the MAIN output channel of the mixer to your computer". You just need to make sure that the one that you have can supply phantom power so that you can supply power to a condenser microphone like the one in this video.

    it's so weird
    not a bad sounding mic at all
    for the price.. i think this is the best you could get
    it sounds warm and tight
    almost flat in the mid frequencies
    but the "high mid" sounds a little bit harsh to me (a solvable problem - use an eq)
    and the presence & air frequencies are boosted so it can sound a little bit live
    i think it's an awesome sounding mic for the price
    but...
    not for the music industry
    i think it's the best option for musicians (singers, rappers and others) to try, train and experience with a condenser mic
    and when they want to really enter the music industry
    they should upgrade their mic to a 300$ or more expensive (there are a lots of options and i don't want to mention them all)
    but for youtube and making content it's a really good option
    at the point that i don't think you should ever upgrade it

      When you say fuzzing out when you scream, do you mean the audio becomes distorted? I'm thinking maybe the audio is clipping. You can maybe try turning down your input volume so it isn't so loud. Let me know if that helps!

    • @TobiasHolenstein
      @TobiasHolenstein  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, it is most likely required. The phantom power will provide power to the microphone, but you will still need an interface to record the audio into your computer. However, some computers have an audio line in and there are some phantom power supplies that have a mic output and you can use an XLR to 3.5mm cable to plug into the "audio line in" on your computer. (This may also work on computers that have a 3.5mm mic input) I know this was a lot of info, but if you have any questions feel free to ask and I can try to help

    • @TobiasHolenstein

      Hi Christian, so I am getting phantom power from my audio interface, which I show at about 4:33 in the video and that is connected to my macbook via firewire cable. However, I recently got a new interface for my iMac desktop and it connects via USB cable, since most newer computers don't have firewire ports. My new interface is the Focusrite Scarlett 2i2

    Which is better Maona pm320s or audio technica at2020 ?

    • @TobiasHolenstein
      @TobiasHolenstein  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I've never personally tried the at2020 so I can't say for certain, but just judging by the price, the at2020 goes for around $100 and just comes with the mic by itself. The Maono pm320s comes with the mic as well as the other items in the mic kit, so I suspect that the at2020 is probably a higher quality mic, although I do thing the pm320s is a great mic for a very competitive price. I will say though, I have the at4040 and it's a great mic and goes for $300, so I have a lot of faith in Audio-Technica as well.

    Do you think this XLR Maono is better than the USB Maono??? And do You think the audio quality is different?

    • @TobiasHolenstein
      @TobiasHolenstein  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So it kind of depends on the audio interface you get if you go with the XLR Maono mic. The maono USB mics have built in sound cards, which are actually pretty good in my opinion, but if you go with the XLR mic and get a really nice interface (which is basically in place of the sound card) then it has the potential to sound better. But in my experience, I have a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 interface and I can't really tell much of a difference between the XLR Maono mic and the USB Maono mic. My Focusrite interface has an "air" feature which boosts some of the high frequencies, which can be cool, but I don't really use it much.

Maybe there are better ones out there, I'm just not sure. Personally if it were me I would just go with a USB mic. I don't have a PS4, but from what I've read online, USB mics work with PS4
