Thanks for watching! Yea that what I really like about this bench - you make it your own and do what is needed to get the job done. Lots of different things you can do with it! Take care
Really just a 2x4 or 2x6 on end between the ground and the 2x4 middle slat. I put two screws in front the top of said slat into the middle leg. Lots of ways to do this don't over think it! Thx for watching!
Thx for watching! I likely won't do anything to it. It might fade a little but it will likely be a good brown color for a long time. You can always stain it if you want a different look. Just let the wood dry for 6-12 months. Take care
I just downloaded the plans from your Etsy page. Very clear and written for dummies like me 😊. Question, I have wood glue. Do you think wood glue is ok for this project or do you think I have to go with Liquid Nails? I’m building a live seat version of the couch. Thanks!
Thanks for the download. I wouldn't use wood glue. It's not as strong and I don't think it's water resistant either. Liquid nails is pretty cheap and really tough! Good luck with the sofa it's really great!
Awesome build, thanks for sharing! What were the final dimensions on it, specifically the length and depth of it? I'm tempted to try this for my rear patio.
Thank you do much! I really like this outdoor furniture. I had to cut a white oak tree in my yard and I made a few planks out of it. I have seasoned it for 2 years now. I need to cut them into 2x4 and 2x6s as I am planning on building the one you built! Could you also share the plank dimensions for the single seater? Please? 👏👏👏
Wow that would be amazing with that wood! 2x4 are 3.5"x1.5" and 2x6 are 5.5"x1.5" If you need more info on the plans for both you can obtain those as member on my channel. Its $2.99 a month cancel anytime - so for $2.99 you can have everything i used to build the furniture. Send me pics when done!
I honestly can't remember I think I mention it in the video or it displays on the video. I know in the plans it says. Mine angle was tight though. Take care
Very nice property! Whereabouts? Great build! Seems very sturdy! Yea, the price of cushions really nails ya huh? I got lucky and found some from a neighborhood give away.
Thanks! I used pressure treated wood called Cedar Tone. Its like the green stuff but its brown and safer - costs a little more. You can purchase it at menards or home depot. I don't believe Lowes sells it. I built my pavilion and the chair out of the same material. Good stuff! You could also use cedar but its too much $$$ right now. Or to save money you could use regular pine but would have to paint it for weather proofing. Hope this helps and make sure you subscribe for more!
The sofa is super comfortable. I'm 230lbs I can feel the board under my legs but it doesn't bother me at all. My wife said she doesn't feel. It can be lowered or downsized to a 2x4 from a 2x6. I don't thinks it's a issue at all. Thx for watching
Hello . I really love the heavy duty bulky couch and chairs. But can you tell me if you used a sertain stain or something to preserve the wood ? Oh and what kind of wood did you use for these projects? Thx in advance 👍👍
No stain or poly. Its AC2 Cedartone that I get at Menards but I believe Home Depot also sells it. Its treated would like the green stuff you always see. Its made for exterior use but I may put a poly over it this summer just to peserve the brown look and make it pop - but not needed. Thanks for watching!
@@HomeProHero HI. Just me again . What is the wood again you used on the couch and chair ? I was at Menards and saw a very dark cedar and a lite cedar .
Yes I do if you are a channel member. It's $2.99 a month cancel anytime - so $2.99 for the plans or any of my plans basically. You can join on my homepage. Thx for watching!
@@80bjonesAccording to google, a comfortable angle for a chair ranges between 3-8 degrees. I believe I went right in the middle at 5 degrees. If you're looking to increase the angle of the upright seat back, you can extend the arms on each side. By moving the connecting 2x4 farther back, you'll have the flexibility to adjust the angle to your liking. I find the current angle comfortable since I sit on the couch regularly. In fact, I built a chair with the same angle, and I absolutely love it! I'm even planning to add a matching lounger and potentially build a complete set for my screened porch. I hope this information is helpful to you!
Is there any build list for all of the lumber and sizes needed to purchase? I am really looking forward to building this couch ASAP. You really did an amazing job with it and explained it all very well, Thank you!
Thx for watching. Look in the video description and there is a link to my Etsy store. I sell the material list and step by step plans. With the video many people have built this sofa. Only $5. It's a great piece I might be building another real soon! Take csre
Thanks for watching! If wood glue gets wet it doesn't hold even after it dries. It's thin too compared to LN. LN is designed to be in the weather and holds great even when wet! Cushions Amazon link is in the description they are really nice I just wish they were cheaper :) Take care!
Yeah for sure a 10" saw will work if you already have it. But if you need to buy one go with the 12" it's the most common and cuts the most common bigger boatds
Thx for watching! Yes for sure the liquid nails is key! Removes any possible movement and really tightens up everything. I use LN all the time it's great stuff!
@@b3arwithm3 take 2 pieces of wood an use LN and do the same with wood glue. You will see the difference. I'm sure wood glue would work I just think LN is a better product for this project :)
The lumber I used is called Cedartone from Menards or Home Depot. Its a ground contact pressure treated product like the green stuff but just brown. You could also use regular cedar but it will cost more. Thanks for watching!
I like the style and the build but I don't see that joint between the seat and arm rest holding up with just trim head screws. It really should be mortised through so that it is wood on wood to support the weight.
Thx for watching! I also used liquid nails and that sofa is a year old and it's a stout as ever! Same with the chair. Seems to be working great! Take care!
This is an awesome build and I'm waiting for the wood to dry out to start building. Some questions however. The 2x4 seat slat behind the front 2x6 face board... is that flush/perpendicular to the face board or are you matching the angle of the side stringers? Would it be beneficial to shave off 5 degrees to make it flush against the face board and match the side stringer? The top back rest support @ 5:58. You don't mention it or explain how you're attaching it. I am assuming from the commander chair video you used a 2x4 and attached it with pocket holes. Correct? Thanks again for a great channel. Love your style and videos!
Thank you for becoming a member and supporting the channel! I truly appreciate it. Regarding the 2x4 seat slat, I did run it with the 5% angle on the sides. Although it leaves a small crack at the top between itself and the front 2x6, I personally don't find it necessary to cut that edge to 5%. In fact, it's barely noticeable, and I haven't even had to lift the cushions since I installed them! You're absolutely right about the back support 2x4. I should have provided better detail in the video. To attach it, I used pocket screws in conjunction with liquid nails, as that board does bear some weight. Sofa Update: it's still as sturdy as a tank, and both my wife and our furry friends, the cat and dog, absolutely love it! Personally, I'm more inclined towards the commander's chair. I the spacious armrests and the proximity to the smoker is all me :) Take care, and thank you again! HPH
@@HomeProHeroI just noticed since he brought it up. At 6:19 I assume the boards you are screwing in are 26 inch long to make up for the fact that they get screwed into the bottom slat to accommodate the cushions?

Cool stuff. But why are you using liquid nail on wood. For the love of god, please use wood glue. lol. Wood glue penetrates the wood where liquid glue bonds two surfaces at one point. Not the same outcome over the long run. That’s why woodworks use wood glue.
Thx for watching. LN is designed for this particular application and rated for outdoor use. Wood glue not nearly as strong and is designed more for finishing fine woodworking. I have used both and no question I used the right product for this job. LN is great stuff. Take care.
Why do you use construction adhesive for furniture? Some woodglue would do. This stuff is awful for the environment and way more expensive. Just makes no sense IMO
Wood glue isn't strong enough and when u add in the wet and cold environment it fails. Wood glue is best for indoor and more fine wood working. Can't agree the benifits to environment but it's sold on shelves so I assume it's safe enough. Take care
