- How to rig a roller gun... in this edition of Adreno Tips, Wayne explains how to create rubbers for a roller gun. Although rollergun rubber can seem complicated and intimidating at first, it's actually very simple. Roller gun rubbers are essentially two regular rubbers with the addition of a longer bridle.

Very informative! can you give any tips for rigging roller guns like the aimrite fury carbon where the pre-tension bridle has to go through the trigger guard/hole? I find it pretty hard to to get the line through to tie the knot whilst holding the whole thing under tension.

Thanks for the video. One question is have you ever had problems with the bridle knot pulling out of the rubber? I had this happen the other day, jumped in the water, loaded up, started swimming to my spot n bang- knot pulled out! Lucky i had a spare gun n rubbers in the boat. Why did this happen? I use a vice to tension my constrictor knot too.
it has happened to me ever.I found the knot inside rubber that is too small,just makd a bigger one.
Hey @fish hunter, it's not usual for that to happen, however, if it is happening it's most likely that the knots are just too small. Try using thicker dyneema, or depending on what you're using, you may just need bigger knots. 😃
Yeah I've made the same exact bridle with 3mm spectra and 2mm dyneema and have had it pop out 3 times now. What did you end up doing?
maybe your constrictor not isn't done correctly.
1) Your knot inside the rubber is too small, 2) your constrictor not was not tight enough.

Would you use just knots and no bridle with a standard non-roller spear gun as well?
Yes, standard speargun rubbers do not need a bridle.
The bridle is an option for roller guns as you cannot put your fingers into the muzzle to pull the rubbers for loading... or you use a so-called load assist with a little hook that engages into the wishbone in the muzzle - no bridle needed than. A matter of personal preferences.
Knots into rubbers: It is possible to use just knots to hold the Dyneema inside the rubber or use cones as sold by Salvimar etc to ensure the Dyneema cannot slip out of the rubber.

With load assist no need for a bridle.
On a standard speargun no need for a pulling bridle - just grab the rubbers and load.

@@DeepBlueSpirit2 I can't remember why I actually wrote it, I think it was something to do with being in the process of modding an old cayman of mine. Maybe I phrased it poorly it doesn't even make sense to me now, at least not without rewatching the video. Basic loading of a speargun was never an issue though, I've been spearfishing for more than a decade =.O

Hey Kanti! That's a great idea, we'll keep that one in mind.
At 5:45 he states he made the rubbers 1/2 the barrel length. 90cm gun gets 45cm rubbers. He prefaces this with a use what the manufacturer recommends. Not sure if that is length or diameter.

GENERAL RULE is 1/2 a length of the tube, plus 10cm, each rubber.
Always can cut it shorter, not longer.;-)

Bridle slows down spear about 10-15%. Best is load assist tool.
yeah, it's also great when you lose it and can't use the speargun anymore in the same outing lol

Very nice. It's not necessary, after having a few knots pop out of my bands, I settled on the marlinespike hitch to help pull the constrictor as tight as it will ever need to be: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marlinespike_hitch. Both practical and historical value.
