Taking him at #4 would be an eye opener still, but that kind of talent doesn't come along that often and I'd love for the Jets to grab him. Preferably trading down to #8 or so (more draft capital accrued) but he may not be there at 8.

The Jets were so bad last year that I really can’t tell how bad Darnold is. They need to fill some holes and see if he’s really the problem next season.
This is literally too much of a risk for a multitude of reasons! 1. Sam hasn’t proven enough regardless of the situation to be ok with giving him a pay raise 2. You don’t come across this opportunity every year where you are picking 2nd overall in a great QB class, if sam was good you wouldn’t be in this situation 3. Joe Douglas did not draft Sam this would be the first time in YEARS where the GM, Coach, and QB of the Jets are aligned.

@@mjrobles24 The Jets are in this position in the draft quite often. I would agree with you if they were to pass on Trevor Lawrence. But we're talking about a quarterback prospect who isn't as impressive as Sam Darnold was coming out of USC. Nobody can say with anywhere near certainty how good Zack Wilson will be in the NFL. If the Jets take Wilson and he turns out to be worse than Darnold, they will be laughed at even more.

A lot of people were skeptical about herbert last year. Its all about surrounding your qb with good talent and coaching. I don't get all this denigrating towards fields when he is mobile, has an incredibly strong arm, and seems to be accurate from what I can tell. He had the game of his life with broken ribs. Just surround fields in a good environment, and he will be fine.
Bro fields is nothing like herbert. He may be mobile and have a strong arm but his accuracy is questionable and he is not mechanically clean and efficient the way herbert was. Fields is a full on project to develop into a good qb. It may happen but it is going to take some time.

@@hariavula9133 it exists because it’s true. If the Jets decided to draft josh Allen instead of darnold then we would be having the same conversation about Allen. It matters who your coach is, it matters who your offensive coordinator is, it matters what weapons you have around you. And darnold hasn’t had any of that in the slightest. If the Jets had mahomes they would be 4-12 instead of 2-14 the team still sucks!

@@odigomez1787 exactly. almost every team that tries to build offense and defense at the same time fails. and since the nfl is all about offense, i would use the whole draft on that so i would build it first. any team can skate by with a mid level defense as long as you put up points
defensively, also back to square one. so in FA it would be my top priority to get either the #1 or at least #2 EDGE and CB available. also in the next draft, it would be all defense, most likely picking the best EDGE available. now i would have two solid DE's on both sides of the line, with quinnen in the middle. that is an O.D. solid defensive line!!
so in only two seasons, this team can become a contender

@@danielmolloy6107 It wasn't that Carson couldn't handle a rookie backup, it was because after the Nick Foles statue, getting benched in 2018 because of his back instead of being allowed to play through it, and not being given any help at all in 2019 when his entire team was falling apart, drafting Hurts in 2020 was the final straw.

If you keep drafting QBs, you're wasting high high picks on something that may not even be the problem, when you could be getting a lot better everywhere else. You don't need to look further than the SB and Mahomes. He wasn't throwing everyone open or throwing off-platform every play to win the game. Everyone blames his teammates for the loss, but his loss came in the same way that a number of QBs lose. The only difference is that when other QBs lose (not saying they are as good as Mahomes), they get blamed for not elevating the players around them or needing everything to be perfect.
Jets are in a poor position due to years of bad management. Timelines are off. Good franchises should already have a near-completed offensive line built and emerging talent to throw to before drafting a QB or letting a young QB play. On top of that, they should also have a strong culture and stability. Jets have none of these yet. Every bad franchise is the same: they lack cohesion in philosophy and strong leaders.

Trubisky is the type of QB, apart from guys like Goff, that doom a franchise, cause they have a tendency to string you along. Can move, throw, strong arm, hard worker, great attitude, smart... (you end up liking the guy more than the actual player).
I've heard JT O'Sullivan use him as an example of what 1 major thing people need to look at when evaluating QBs, and it's kind of subtle and hard to see in the beginning. But Trubisky is always a "tick off" in terms of recognizing what's going on in front of him.
He's one of the reasons why I don't like drafting raw players. It's unlikely you can develop them, even if their potential is sky high. I'd go with the safer bet, which should have Watson at the time. (Mahomes was a risky pick then, but everyone seems to forget).

Who is Wilson going to throw too, who is going to block for him, who is going to run screens? Who is going to snap to him. Come on, this team needs players not another QB that likely won't be better than SD. Darnold never had a chance to show his talent on this team. Darnold has been composed and professional around all the loosing, he has real character which is needed in NY. Wilson, who knows what will happen in NY and frankly its not worth the risk. Darnold cane be really good, maybe even great, build the team and stick with Darnold.
Mel Kiper Jr’s predictions have eroded from bad to terrible, just like his hairline.
Sam Darnold has a high ceiling, he just needs a competent coach with a competent team around him. He's not ever gonna be an all-time great, but he could win playoff games. That's a helluva lot better than a lot of quarterbacks can do and certainly better than what most draft busts will ever accomplish.

Mel does have a decent point. Darnold had all the potential in the world, he just didn't have the right weapons. Drafting Pitts will give him at least one weapons on the offensive end, and if it doesn't work out, look for the 2022 NFL Draft and get a QB then.

I don't see Bill trading up. He's always been pretty public that the draft is a bit of a lottery and so looks to maximise picks. If Lance or Jones are there at 15, maybe he makes this pick. But he's more likely to trade back into the late first round and pick up the third they were stripped of.
