Just when we thought we'd 'seen it all', you've rescued us from our listlessness and broken the cycle of repetitive content on every channel, by creating a unique theme with content completely new to our ears! After your intro setting-up the story, in the following pause before the title opening, I know I'm not alone in this...I say out loud, "This is Monsters". A friend of mine lives on a river popular for rafting and swimming. He regularly dives on Monday mornings to collect the wallets, phones, expensive sunglasses, etc lost by the weekend rafters/partiers. Once he found a body snagged on a tree underwater. That's the stuff of nightmares, imo... Great video Jiles!!

    • @sarahhirshlee

I was in a relationship with a guy whos dad had a floating company and during the summer we would go down there and work... Driving the shuttle bus, putting people in, taking people out, throwing canoes and occasionally floating a couple miles downstream to retrieve floaters that got too drunk and missed the out. Lol. Your friend is spot on about the diving after the weekenders leave. We would usually wait till the end of the season and do the float ourselves, like a final clean up, stopping at all the sand bars making sure we've got all of our boats, life jackets, paddles, collecting trash and the last thing we would do before we moved on to the next Sandbar is go over the entire thing with the metal detector. It really is mind-blowing the amount of stuff people lose/leave behind on float trips and even more mind-blowing is the things people take with them and then lose or forget and behind on float trips! Like what possessed you to bring your great grandfather's pocket watch along????? 🧐🤪
Luckily we never came across a body. And I'm still a complete River rat and go floating any chance I get even if it's just for a couple hours by myself and my kayak. But I'm also in Missouri and the river I worked on in the river I float on though there are two different Rivers their makeup is about the same being as they don't have much of occurrence they stay pretty shallow and average about 4 ft and the water is crystal clear. These Rivers eventually flow into the Mississippi. No one floats the Mississippi. it's deep, relentless, unforgiving, and unpredictable. Barges have trouble in the Mississippi. But a lot of these Rivers will flow into the Mississippi via the Merimac River and people do float that there are a handful of campgrounds that offer floating on it and people say that the areas that you float on it are calm and shallow and low current but I beg to differ and I will never float on it personally. (I call it a "fun-size Mississippi") there's been several times bodies/body parts have been found either snagged or washed ashore. And not so much recently but in the past it was not uncommon for bodies to show up in the Mississippi and they would actually get caught on barges more often than not. When that does happen and a body shows up in the Mississippi and it can be identified a lot of times they'll find out that the body entered the Mississippi via an overflow River. (Like the Meramec)
Sorry about the novel of a comment.
Also I'm curious as to what state and River your friend has the float business in?

    • @ambrr_lily

@@sarahhirshlee Sounds like fun! He just lives on the river where people raft, the American River in Sacramento., CA. When you were telling your story I thought for sure you were talking about the same area until you said Missouri, lol. I guess all over the US, people are doing the same thing, bringing the same valuable crap to go rafting and drinking and losing it all in our waterways! I used to live in San Antonio and we did it there too at Stinky Falls on the Guadalupe. The one place we never floated-- I like your term better than "rafting" which sounds a little vigorous for literally floating along so I'm going with it-- we never floated in Alabama. Too many water moccasins and gators and it's just too hot. The deep south is like the Australia of the US. Well, thanks for sharing and the new term for an old pastime! Happy floating!

I reckon it’s not just currents and streams that makes feet in tennis shoes wash up on American and Canadian beaches, it’s also the fact that Americans and Canadians wear tennis shoes all year round. Typically, the Australians wear leather shoes in the (short) winter and flip-flops 🩴 the rest of the year. Europeans wear leather shoes too with sandals or flip flops in the summer, etc. My point is, feet would get out of flip flops and sandals and leather will decompose just like flesh… whereas the bus shoes take much longer to decompose + being lighter, they indeed come up to the surface.

His body has not been found.
I'm curious if any of the people, and children who go missing off our beaches end up going north into this vortex you speak of.
Not many of the bodies that go in, come back onto the shores here.

There isn't a "great pacific garbage patch". There's a lot of plastic in the ocean but it's not floating at the top. If there was a Texas-sized mound of plastic in the ocean then you'd be able to see it on google maps

    • @Strype13

@@burstingwizard975 I wouldn't call it a "mound of plastic," but there are definitely large swaths of plastic floating at surface level. They don't stay stationary though, as many people seem to think, because they tend to follow the currents along the pacific gyre. There are plenty of photographs and/or videos taken by boats and ships that have stumbled upon sections of it, and it is not a pretty sight to say the least.

I seriously doubt they do. At least not everyday people. I grew up on the east coast and my dad was a medic. He worked in Philly and Camden. When things were slow, they would make excursions into wooded areas, literally searching for dumped bodies. Probably some kind of workers had search for feet added to their job description precisely so they wouldn't be getting found by regular people.

Salish-Sidhe was the name of the Pacific Northwest nation in the fictional Shadowrun world. “Sidhe” is pronounced “shthee” or “sithee,” and is the ancient name for the fair folk, aka: elves.

Jiles, I'm about to give you a new nickname...
    Cassius Clay.
You're knockin content out all over the internet and you make it look easy.
Legit, I really love this new channel and content!!! The true crime genre is full of amazing content and amazing content creators but I feel like lately it's been a little monotonous.
I knew i was waiting for something and I wasn't sure what it was, but I knew when it came along I would recognize it. Somewhere Sinister is it!

@@SomewhereSinister wow you learn me so much … so that’s the name for it ..
I love your delivery of such horrible events in your monsters channel too . I’ve worked in youth justice for 14 years but recently left …. Chewed up en spat out kind of scenario.. I think I get a lot out of your work & it helps me somehow put some stuff to bed …
It’s a very hard world & I got a lot out of trying to make a difference but lost faith in justice & that I was actually making a positive difference… if you don’t believe in the job anymore it’s tough … there is that much that needs to change & your justice system also blows my mind …
Thanks so much for replying & I opened it Saturday night & it really cheered me up en then teenage kids took over & I wanted to thank you properly so it took till now ..
take care & I will keep watching until there aren’t any dark stories to tell … 👊🏻😘👍🏻

A young woman drowned in Lake Crescent 2 years ago and they have not found her yet. A bartender who worked at one of the resorts there (still there) was murdered by her boyfriend and he wrapped her in some rug material or carpet and tied it with rope and lowered her into the lake. She came to the surface years later and she was almost perfectly preserved due to the coldness of the deep lake. She was wearing the same clothes as nothing had deteriorated. They caught him in CA and he only did 9 years for her murder. Look up "The Lady of the Lake". I am sure that's the name of the book I bought at said resort where she had worked. There's much about it online. I live near Port Townsend.

My grandmother gave me the small book on her years ago. There’s also supposed to be one of Israel Keyes victims still in the lake somewhere.

There's more to the the Melissa story, I don't think she's dead, she seemed way to selfish to do that. Also, the morning she woke up to go for her daily jog, the same day as her disappearance, there is no camera footage of her at all from her home, or neighbours security cameras, that show she actually went on that jog. There are many who believe she'd have had her own foot cut off, just to get away with the crime of stealing millions to fund her and her husbands lifestyle.
