Episode 07 : The White House : Marianna, FL
Schools are typically perceived as a sanctuary for young minds to flourish and prepare for adulthood. Children devote their time and effort to learning, hoping to become the best version of themselves. The responsibility of guiding and nurturing their growth lies with the faculty, who are entrusted to act in the best interests of their pupils. Sometimes though, the teachers become the enemy.

So many generations before us were taught to say nothing, to report nothing, to act as if violence against children was acceptable. This is to our detriment - we have made little progress. TY Jiles for keeping this history alive.

My uncle spent a period of time at this school. He has some really dark stories. He just visited us after going back down there for a reunion with some of the surviving boys and touring the memorial that was built. He’s also participating in a book that’s being written on the school (as a source) along with some other survivors. If you met my uncle, you’d never think he spent time in the Dozier school, he’s a super positive glass half full type of person. He has always said he was one of the few lucky ones.

One of the most toughest country hard core artists that ever pick up a guitar was David Allen Coe...many of the songs & lyrics that he wrote, diffently makes sense now. In one of his songs he mentioned about the industrial schools that he was held in.. I was raised in a foster home my self, I personal seen what comes out of them, and also I can recall many times the Alduts would threaten to send boys up to McLaren home for boys in Oregon. That's all it took to change a attitude.

I watched a documentary in which 2 former residents (inmates) of the Dozier School for Boys were interviewed regarding their experiences. The stories of abuse they recounted were nightmarish, sexual abuse from both the teachers, older boys and stronger boys. They showed an area where they claimed the bodies of the victims of the school were buried but to my knowledge the area still has never been examined nor any attempt made to exhume and identify bodies buried in that area.
It’s my understanding that the parents of some boys sent there never saw their child again and no explanation was ever give regarding their fate, which in my mind means they have no record of death and no headstone. No one cared so the administrators were free to inflict whatever harm or punishment they wanted. Absolute power…and we all know what absolute power leads to!
What concerns me, are there such places of horror operating today?!? 11:00

I fucking LOVE this channel so much, Its definitely in my top 3 all time TH-cam favorites! I've learned SO much IMPORTANT history watching it..... This kind of stuff needs to be included in high school and even middle school curriculum. It's hard to understand why today's social problems exist without knowing about things like boarding schools and towns like Rosewood. Erasing that from history, separates the problem from the cause in the collective minds of society. You can't fix it if you aren't looking at it correctly. To think things like poverty and class, and their consequences like crime, are the fault of the victims, is just continuing abuse.

People seem to assume every awful story is from Florida. "Florida Man" has become a common term.
What many people fail to realize is that Florida has what is known as the Sunshine Law. This allows details of all arrests, etc. to be made available to the public.
Most states do not have such a law in place, and therefore information is limited and "headlines" can't be driven like they are in Florida.
We all know the rest of the 49 are just as bad as we Floridians, but y'all have more privacy laws.

Psychopaths always seek positions of power, especially over the powerless. Anybody in charge of an institution like this is suspect, unless they've been vetted thoroughly. Ideally, there should never be any ONE individual in charge of anything, but rather a committe, from schools like this to whole countries.

I believe a lot of these horrific actions were founded upon (or what gave the excuse from) the ideology of Eugenics which was extremely prevalent in the United States in the early 1900s. Which would also be another layer upon classism. These children came from the lower classes of society and from impoverished backgrounds and in the mind of those elite who were indoctrinated by eugenics such as the founder of Kellogg’s and many of the elites of that time period, would view these children as a waste upon society for being of weak dna and worthy of such treatment. It’s just a thought that came to me while listening to your excellent narration.

I know of a story that happened here in Canada that involves Indigenous children and residential schools run by priest and nuns and funded by the Canadian Federal Government. To date more than 3200 bodies of these children have been found on the school grounds in mass unmarked graves. Not all grounds of these schools have been searched and NO-ONE has been held accountable since the discovery was made in 2018. There are so many shocking discoveries about this and the media in Canada say's very little on the subject due to the shame of Government and their lack of responsibility. More than 150,000 children attended Indian residential schools which many never returned home. First school was opened in 1831 and by 1880 the federal government had adopted an official policy of funding the schools across Canada. They ripped these children from their families put them in these schools to teach them to live like a Canadian white person, and no parent had any choice in the matter. 1,953 of the kids have been Identifies, 477 additional investigating is required and 1,242 students names are not yet known. One of the grounds had the remains of more than `1000 people discovered in just 3 mass graves at 3 locations. Many of these schools are in western Canada. The last school was closed in 1998. The story has so much more to it and I this you JILES would be the perfect person to report on this.

If there's anyone who is still alive that worked there they should be put in prison. So they can receive some of the pain and treatment which they had induced on the boys that were there.

I live very remotely, up close (sometimes a little too close) to nature. I’m an antique and in all my years of living with nature I have never seen a paw, a beak, a hoof etc. used by the parents on their offspring to guide or teach them.
Many, many so called “parents” and those acting as parents can’t even meet the bare bones minimal parenting standards set by wild animals. So we learn very early we are not wanted and we are not safe. There is no place in this world that offers us refuge. We have to find it on our own. Peace to my brothers and sisters who have survived a childhood, adolescence, adulthood of abuse and neglect by the very people who were suppose to protect us and failed SPECTACULARLY.

I have heard the stories of this place and other sanitariums, and the very first thing that happens which leads to everything turning bad, is the maximum occupancy being ignored. The very first thing we need to do with ANY facility, regardless of what is going on there, is ensure that maximum occupancy is NEVER tolerated. The Fire Marshall and Fire Chief of the area need to be punished as well because they allowed it to happen and had full authority to enforce maximum occupancy. Secondly, why is it that the only people who work at these places make serial killers seem like nice guys? What is it with the HR folks who allow it to happen? If this is the kind of results we can expect from the people who were actually hired to do the job, we ought to fill such positions with random people from the unemployment line. We'd probably end up with better results than with just hiring people who give Nazis a run for their money.
