    Episode 01 : Mississippi Appendectomy : Montgomery County, MS
    We go to the doctor to be treated for our physical maladies. We have a pain or a lump and the doctor knows how to evaluate our symptoms and ease our suffering . When our doctor recommends a course of treatment for a medical condition, we trust that they have our best interest in mind, wanting nothing more than to make us feel better. Sometimes though, they destroy more of you than they fix.

      This broke my heart. I remember it being covered by one of the channels I watch. (DEF not Fox!) and thought it was a few women who were at the wrong place at the right time, the height of Trump giving racists & xenophobes permission to act on their disgusting beliefs. But no. This has been a problem HISTORICALLY. As I was listening as I puttered around the house, I got thrown off by one of the cases, where the couple met, were thought to be very different but ended up happily married only to discover she had been sterilized. I thought that was at the turn of the century but nope. I was ALIVE when that happened. In the 60s. Another case was in 1974. I was 14. And when the woman sued….she LOST!! It was jolting.

      The worst part is that America will claim other countries are doing it while the indigenous population has been wiped out here and they continue to systematically attack people who are genetically African or indigenous. Migrants that come from the south are generally genetically more indigenous than Europeans who have migrated here. When I talk about this even with liberals they act like I'm a conspiracy theorist like 90% of the time. But then they want to go to war with China claiming that it's happening in Xinjiang when the population there is increasing. And any simple Google Map search could show you that there's thousands of mosque in China the biggest Chinese Muslim is Wei btw. But they don't have their own version of the Taliban for America to try to prop up another Osama bin Laden and overthrow another peaceful socialist Nation like they did in Afghanistan. But hey at least if they establish a right-wing country in the west of China will be able to steal a bunch of oil again

    It's really fucked up how the people who want hysterectomies are denied them and the people who want children are forced to have hysterectomies. Why can't people be guaranteed bodily autonomy?

    • @fineacorn
      @fineacorn ปีที่แล้ว

      Because people with uteruses aren't seen as anything more than something to be controlled. Our own choices are 2nd behind what's decided of our bodies by a white men.

    • @--_--IMP--_--
      @--_--IMP--_-- ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Your overall point is fair, and the types of things seen in this video absolutely need to end, but "bodily autonomy" is far too complex to guarantee without exception, because it covers so many different facets of life beyond what is described in this video and things like abortion.
      Let me ask you this: Should clinically diagnosed, legitimately mental ill people (schizophrenia/schizoaffective disorder, APD, BPD, clinical psychopathy, etc.) be forced to take medications that would almost certainly improve everyone's quality of life? Especially if they display signs of possible self-harm or are a danger to others? "Guaranteed bodily autonomy" says no, but "greater good" says yes. Should people displaying classic symptoms of those types of illnesses be forced to see a qualified doctor for diagnosis? "Guaranteed bodily autonomy" says no, but "greater good" says yes.
      I ask these as someone with skin in the game, so to speak. My sister has been repeatedly diagnosed with schizophrenia, manic depression, schizoaffective disorder, bipolar disorder, and numerous other debilitating mental illnesses over the past two plus decades. She refuses to take any medications (her right in the state I live in), which prevent her from taking care of herself in any capacity, and has been effectively homeless most of her adult life. She is absolutely unable to work in her existing mental state. She lives in a van on my parents' property, even though she has had multiple no-trespass warrant against her for threatening people. She has no concept of personal hygiene and hasn't showered in years *by her choice*. She is a ward of the state, who officially recognize her mental illnesses and give her a bit of money each month (enough to buy some food every day) but not much else. She has effectively fallen in the cracks of society largely because of "bodily autonomy", mostly because she can choose to not see doctors or take prescribed medications; and those choices dynamically affect every aspect of her (and, to an extent, everyone she encounters') existence. She has taken her meds on and off at various points in the past and was able to function relatively normally, so this isn't theoretical. Her life would be unquestionably better if she were forced to take her meds. But does that make it the right choice? If she were to happen to get pregnant in her current state, she would be utterly incapable of taking care of a child. The result would be either another abortion statistic or yet another ward of the state, making the problem generational. Humanely sterilizing her would unquestionably mitigate problems that are otherwise unavoidable. But does that make it the right choice? Like I said, it's...complex.
      These questions are largely rhetorical, although I am curious what others think about this particular facet of "bodily autonomy".

She worked there for only 8 months. She quit because she was in the operation room and witnessed the doctor sterilizing women who thought they were getting gall bladders removed. It bothered her deeply and she cried when she told me about it years later. She said she felt helpless and it put her into a depression for years. It's heartbreaking to think that, not all that long ago, none of my three sons would have been allowed to be conceived by law in my country. It's equally heartbreaking to know there are STILL places in the world where my children would be considered mongrols or mud people.

    • @manwithnoname3024
      @manwithnoname3024 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I’m not sure why your kids would be called mud people or whatever but the prejudice is based on nature. Or a lot of it is. An animal will either abandon or sometimes eat offspring that are diseased or deformed because it wouldn’t be able to care for itself. And, well, other reasons. So try to understand how millions of years of that in our DNA may cause people to be wary.

    • @TheElbowMerchant
      @TheElbowMerchant ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@breezedarkstorm666 My children are mixed race, not disabled. This video stated repeatedly that being "feeble minded" was often the excuse used to justify the sterilization of people of color, even when the women being sterilized were not ever diagnosed with a developmental or intellectual disability. Furthermore, the terms "mongrol" and "mud people" are terms used by white supremacists to devalue human beings that are not Caucasian. At no point in my previous comment did I suggest my sons are disabled, but rather that my wife would have qualified for sterilization by people and governments that promoted eugenics, simply because she isn't white. We wouldn't have even been legally allowed to be married, much less have children, until the late 1960's. Just because the video references that "feeble minded" women were forced to undergo hysterectomies doesn't mean that all, or even most, of the women sterilized were actually disabled. The narrator made it pretty clear that race was the main basis for forced sterilization, disabilities to the mother was often the convenient excuse to justify it legally.
