Thank you. Very useful! I have had a new switch fitted last week. Bike a year old. Thanks for posting 👍

My 3 year old MT just got the sticky switch. Thanks for the walk through. I'll give this a go.

How has this held up? 2wheelobsession has a video of same issue although he puts it solely as the grease turning to goo with rain and dirt, as the issue. A good clean with electrical contact cleaner worked for him. I need to fix or clean my mt09 switch which has just started sticking

Yeah good! I rode my MT a few days ago and it's still flicking back. No issues. Yeah, the grease thing I see is an issue as I feel the spring is not man enough to push the switch with sticky aging grease. A good clean out would also help.

Very interesting, I would like to add a couple of comments:
    1. Disconnect your battery before you start.
    2. Cover the bike and screen with a sheet, or something similar, this will catch the spring if it springs off and stops it falling into the bike.

Hello, yes good shout. I did not think of this. Valid point.

I don't think you need to disconnect the battery if the ignition is not on, it's essentially a dead switch without the keys in.

Hi buddy .... I did what you said made spring stronger buy opening it up. However it snapped the end off and had to buy a new switch. Now I'm not sure if the earlier plastic contact semi circle pieces were more brittle but yamaha told me the latest or newer ones are better ...anyway thanks for the vid ....probably worked for a few but not for me ....not your fault !!!

Mine has started sticking. Usually ride regularly but after 10 days storage the switch is sticking. Gonna spray it with WD40 tomorrow. Has been through a few storms of late.

Mine has done just this. A stronger spring from a biro pen done mine. But i have done in a starter relay. So.....cant win it all the time

My mt-07 doen’t start at all after I recognized this issue. My battery has no problems. Could this be the reason why my mt-07 doens’t start?

Ye. Very nice, but I would simply buy a NORMAL start switch ( not even from Yamaha ) that fits the area, and forget about the trouble.
Really is a mystery - why Yamaha insists on using this shitty part - also on the newest Tracer 700 !

Same problem with the start switch on the Mt09 2018 model.

if the switch sticks will it stop the bike from starting ?

First of all many thanks to Penknifemonkey for the excellent video.
Lee, if the switch sticks it can maybe burn out the starter solenoid and it will need replaced.
See GringoTom on TH-cam for his complete example on his Xsr700 - which is more or less identical.
Also search online for a good explanation on the American FZ07 forum.
      Cheers.

Hi ,is the fix still a success??

    • @penknifemonkey
      @penknifemonkey  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Yes, no issues at all. Still flicks back to center after 18months. I get people commenting it won't work. It works for me. I also slightly filed the switch which I did not show in the video.

@@keithjones1544 on the red switch it's self where it some in contact with the black casing. Just to reduce friction.
