      We're just about to lose all of ours because of the heat....I wish I'd been harvesting more during the growth, but I was recovering from surgery and couldn't. Fall will come soon enough and we can start again!

    Brilliant to pull off stems over the silicon looking paper to keep from making mess on your counter & can pick up to pour into containers.

    I just replaced my old Nesco dehydrator with the new one like you reviewed. I dehydrated asparagus and rhubarb. They came out fantastic! I also purchased the jar vacuum sealer and I love that too! Can't wait to dehydrate more and more, thanks to your great videos and instruction! I'm vegan, so no animal products for me, but plenty of vegan ideas from your videos! Thank you!

      Dehydrating mesh is what it's called - and available on Amazon. Get larger sheets that can be cut down to fit your machine. They can be made from plastic or silicone. amzn.to/3WCWcIN

    I found shaker tops that fit my Ball jam jars to be really helpful. I usually just shake the amount I need in a recipe or I can remove the twist lids if I need to measure. FYI, I made your ranch dressing blend with the dried cucumbers which is delicious! I also have an Italian blend and mixed herb (similar to your Mrs Darcy but without the marjoram). I can looking for a Cajun blend, any suggestions? PS LOVE your channel, you are so inspiring to try new ideas and the exchange with your members keeps my kitchen interesting.

      There are a lot of them out there. Look for spice blend mix compilations on Pinterest and you'll find a few to try out and experiment with. Just a quick search for DIY Cajun seasoning brought a ton of results.

    I've got a ton of huge cabbage leaves still on the plant (the heat got to us before they could produce actual cabbage). Anybody dehydrate the leaves and make into a powder? I'm thinking of trying that to have for winter soups. Any other ideas what to use these cabbage leaves for? I have chopped and cooked with onion too!

    Do you Blanch bell peppers and onions before dehydrating?

    • @ThePurposefulPantry

      No, though blanching can help reduce the smell of the onions.

  • @jessicaquiroz7178

    I wanted to ask how bad does your house smell after dehydrating onions? I have some many bags in my freezer right now and hurricane season just started here and I don’t want to lose them cuz they are from my garden.

    • @ThePurposefulPantry

      It really will depend on your own tolerance and where your machine is compared to your living space. Do them outside if you are worried.

  • @user-jy2sd3gp8g

    When drying parsley, chives, purslane and other herbs do you have to blanch first

    • @ThePurposefulPantry

      Taste yours. Bolting affects herbs differently - and it really matters most what you think about it vs me saying it's not good anymore.

    Darcy, Can I vacuum seal dehydrated herbs in a recycled pickle jar that doesn't have a button on the lid?

    • @ThePurposefulPantry

      The button doesn't matter. But most vacuum sealers won't work on a single lid system. You may be able to do it with a canister system, though - chamber sealing. A break bleeder might be able to pull it off. But vacuum sealing really isn't necessary. Stuff it full and an airtight lid will be fine.
