This was the ancient system which is not prevalent anymore and therefore irrelevant. The British categorised varn as castes and our governments have continued. We cannot expect one section to follow varn system while everyone else follows jaati. I have faced taunts of being a Brahmin during my study days.Reservation based on Caste is only promoting abckwardness and not adding any value towards integration of society at large. Children of officers who are holding plump positions in society and financially well off are continuing to get benefits of reservation. There are thousands of Brahmins who are barely managing to eke a decent living. It is high time there is a movement to pressurise the lawmakers to do away with reservation based on merit for admission/jobs/ promotions, etc. Our media is quick to highlight the caste when such a person is accused of malpractise as being a victim of discrimination. Our society should have Merit based reservation on finacial grounds alone.

The reservation excludes Brahmins in areas in which they are under-represented such as education and employment. The reservation purely targets the Brahmins by discouraging them for increased participation. Brahmin drawback is the societal drawback that disadvantages Brahmin people over non-Brahmin people in societies, if they are under the same social, political, or economic circumstances. Current innocent Brahmin people must not bear a collective responsibility for the harm which had resulted from historical casteist treatment of people belonging to other groups. Discrimination against any individual on the basis of their Brahmin origin is unjustified. Reservation is discriminatory, discarded meritocracy and is driven by lower caste vote-bank politics.

I absolutely agree with the views expressed by Ms Anuradha Tiwari. I have faced taunts of being a Brahmin during my study days.Reservation based on Caste is only promoting abckwardness and not adding any value towards integration of society at large. Children of officers who are holding plump positions in society and financially well off are continuing to get benefits of reservation. There are thousands of Brahmins who are barely managing to eke a decent living. It is high time there is a movement to pressurise the lawmakers to do away with reservation based on merit for admission/jobs/ promotions, etc. Our media is quick to highlight the caste when such a person is accused of malpractise as being a victim of discrimination. Our society should have Merit based reservation on finacial grounds alone.
