Wow, you made this so easy. I have to admit my n7 was also reluctant to change. Hung up in the rebooting dialog of the rooting sequence. However, a manual reboot of the device and a restart of the rooting sequence finished without any more complications. Thank you for taking the time to make this video. Definitely subscribing to see more.
Just wanna say that I've been looking for about 3 days for an easy-to-do root tutorial without any luck. Every other one was plagued with people freaking out that something didnt work right. Thank you so much Reverend...u are truly a man of GOD.. lol subscribed and "thumbed" up..cant wait for ur next vids!!!
THANK YOU!!!! I've been driving myself crazy trying to figure this out. No one explained this as clearly as you. I had an idea of what I needed but most didn't explain just what unlocking would do. Great tutorial.
Awesome! I had to manually install the Samsung Drivers because I was getting hung up using Windows 8, which would not allow installation of unsigned ADB drivers, but after this, everything went exactly as you showed in your video. Thanks, Rev!
Very nice video. One shortcut you can think of adding is when you install the drivers you can "disable" Nexus 7 in device manager and then the ADB device works without a hitch. No messing around needed.
Fantastic guide. Nice to see an easy 1-click application rather than having to use the ADB command line interface I had to use when unlocking and rooting my HTC Sensation. Viva La Nexus 7!
It is necessary to root the device to be able to follow my next video on how to mount a USB drive to the Nexus 7. There are plenty of apps that require root for you to use them. You don't HAVE to root it, but it makes things easier in the long run. There is really no disadvantage to doing it either. It doesn't harm anything.
You are the man! I've rooted devices before following directions from other sources, but those instructions assumed I would already know some things (like why I need to use USB debugging). I don't have my Nexus 7 yet, but I'm anxiously awaiting it and will follow this video for sure. I appreciate it!
Well after multiple try and rooting attempts, I believe I successfully unlocked and rooted my Nexus 7. Scared to death during all the freezes. Now just waiting for an OTG cable to arrive. Cool stuff!
Just rooted my Nexus 7, excellent step by step video actually took less time than I expected. I I can use all my external storage devices now, yessir!!
This is my first Android, and first time of unlocking and rooting anything. I followed these steps , and it was easy. I saved a back up, and that takes a little while. Now have to figure out how to get my F.F.3 game back. Thanks very much.
If the tablet is factory reset again, through the standard settings after the Unlock and Rooting has taken place, will it stay Unlocked & Rooted, or does it revert back to it's original non-Unlocked non-Rooted settings? I'm curious for resale purposes.. thanks
Great vid Rev. I never rooted any device before, but I decided to go for it after watching your video. It worked great and now I can use all my thumb drives on my new tablet!!! I was even able to install flash on it. This tablet now officially kicks ass :)
Thank you you , Reverend Kyle! I got the recent Jelly bean update earlier today. I watched this video a few days ago but was waiting to root my 8g N7 till I got that JB update. I rewatched this video and had no problem doing this procedure . Again , thank you and may the wind always be at your back just dont turn around to pee in it.
The unlock didn't work the first time for me, but I just unplugged and plugged it back in and it worked the second time around. Other than that, no issues! Thanks for the tutorial for the "average joe".
So, let me ask you something. The unlocking will factory reset the device, so..If I get this tablet, straight out of the box like you and inmediatly proceed to unlcking and rooting, is not neccesary to backup, am I right? The backup is only neccesary if I want to root when I already have downloaded apps and all that stuff?
Can you back up your apps and data before rooting then get them back once rooted and still have your current status because I have lots of accounts and apps I don't want to lose if I root
I Unlocked my nexus but during root process when it boots your nexus to TWRP and then you click install i dont find '!ready to flash!' folder please help
HI Rev., Just a suggestion. you could eliminate that bright glare on the desk in any subsequent videos if you would place a dark cloth or something non-reflective down first. It would make the video a whole lot easier to watch and also make the device stand out better. Keep up the great work.
I kept getting an error when trying to unlock the Nexus 7. The error says "fast boot" not found. When I had got past this, the "unlock boot loader" never appeared on the Nexus. PC needed to be rebooted. Not sure what to do next.
quick question, if you unlock & root it, without installing any custom roms...can you still update the device through the system updates option on it? thanks!
Hi reverend kyle, I bought a Nexus 7 a few days ago but my build number of the tablet is JRO03S instead of JRO03D and would this cause a big issue if I root the same way?
So within SuperSU, what does the binary update process accomplish? Is that something to do with updating the device version or root "version" if there even is such a thing?
This One definitively Save me.... I was having a Problem with another video SuperSU will say something like" Binary Not install do a Manual re-root or something like that. Thanks you for the tutorial

I don't wanna root my device but this video helped me for the hidden developer options, now I know how to activate it, thanks! :)
I just picked up this tablet last night and am definitely an average person trying to do all this. Are there any real major things I can do with rooting this or should I just save myself the time. Any insight would help!
I am considering rooting, but I'm hearing about problems such as bricking my nexus, and I've also come across terms such as the forever hack. Is this something included in this process or do I need to look elsewhere?
Can Anyone Help Tell me how to unlock it? without rooting my Tablet Nexus 7 2016 it goes to Recovery mode and It says locked at the Bottom so I restarted it and I left it there for a Night Turning on and it Didn't turn on yet :(
hey thanks for the guide.. i've already rooted my n7 without flasing the cwm. my question is, should i unroot the n7 and root it back and flash the cwm or is there any other way ?
Nice guide, my root went smooth as hell!! I have one question, now there is n update for the landscape mode out for the Nexus 7, how do I install that update now? can I just update it or do I need to wait till it gets cracked or something?
I have a question if this would work: I root my device and immediately backup the stock rom with clockwork recovery and flash another rom afterwards. so a Android 4.2 gets released, i recover the the old stock rom and can get my new 4.2 with the official updater. Right?
Hi Rev I've been having a bit of trouble rooting my tablet. I unlocked the bootloader with no problem at all. have all the right drivers and I'm using toolkit version 1.5.2 and my build number is JR003D. every time I have tried to root it, it never finishes rooting it. I have waited up to 30 minutes for it to root and nothing. I have also reboot it manually and the only thing it installed was busybox. do you have any clue as to why this happened and how to fix this issue?
Hello. I thought I would try this on my Nexus 7 2012. Well all went well only when I went to root the device at the end, it stops and says, ADB recovery device not found. HELP! lol.
question here, maybe idiot or not, cuz i'm kinda noobie at this. if i don't flash the cw recovery trough all the rooting process, it wont afect my recovery mode on the boot mode? wiil i be able to acess it later if i need to? thanks
Hey there Rev, so...I've got everything going for up to the part where I have to click "Unlock" in the ToolKit. When I click it, it does indeed reboot my device and I get sent to the "Fastboot" Mode screen with android lying on it's back and chest popped open but on my computer when it says "Checking Fastboot Status" it can't connect with the device at that point anymore for some reason. I'm working with a Win XP, Nexus 7 J.B 4.1.2, Build JZO54K with ADB enabled. HELP!
I'm trying to find out if rooting will allow the computer to assign a drive letter to the nexus 7 to make it easier for me to use Calibre for ereading purposes
Hi, I have build #JZ054K and my Android version is 4.1.2. I do not see a device version in the Wug driver download for build JZ054K. Can you tell me if I will be ok with the "any" device under the device type in the download?
I'm doing a backup before unlocking/rooting, but it's been saying "waiting for your device to finish rebooting" for nearly an hour. I don't know if it's hung up or if it's still going...there's nothing that shows what it's doing. Any ideas on this?
I'm just an average user for GN7 tablet. What's the point of unlocking and rooting the device? Is this trick important? Could rooting cause problems if I make a mistake? Is it legal to do?
Thank you very much for this video. Too bad I don't have a computer or else I'd do this right away. However I do have a question. What exactly would unlocking and rooting my nexus allow me to do that I couldn't do already? Now I know that you already mentioned that it would allow me to root certain apps but what other capabilities would I have by doing this? Again, thank you for this video. Much appreciated :)
When I install the drivers, on my computer appears: Android Composite ADB interface Is the same as Android ADB interface? I have installed the drivers in the good way?
i have rooted my device successfully but the rooted program i wanted to install is'nt working its telling me i have a pipe line error. what do i need to do in order to get pregames that need to be rooted to work? or can you atleast point me in the right direction?
Thank you! Didn't work for me the first time around, got the 'Temporarily booting twrp' message. Clicked 'root' button again and it worked perfectly for me the second time around with no fuss.
Yes..you stil receive OTA updates. You may install OTA rootkeeper , just in case the OTA update causes the root to be lost. It also doubles as a temp unroot solution, for times when you need to use your wallet account etc
Hey it wont download for me, i get as far as the tool kit download and such, but than when i turn on debugger and plug in my tablet and than go to update the driver software , but i cant find the wugstoolkit all thats there is nexus back up what do i do ?
I did everything exactly like in the video but after it's done SuperSU is not installed. I tried downloading it from Google Play but this didn't work because it told me "There is no SU binary installed and SuperSU cannot install it". Tried rooting it multile times and factory reset. No success. Any ideas?
So if I unlock my device and it resets. If I have save on cloud enabled. Will I lose EVERYTHING. Or will I still have all my buys, and accounts on my games?
Have you tried downloading the 4.2 zip file and load it using CWM. Or you could unroot your device using the root toolkit, install the OTA update and then reroot.
When I rooted mg kindle fire I had to do a factory reset because I had to much stuff on it. I have alot of stuff on my nexus 7 I don't wanna lose but I wanna root it will I have to do a reset you think.

Great video! I was having issues with the ADB interface at the beginning until I found this. The rest was quick and painless.
Thanks for a perfect howto guide, used the latest toolkit on my 2012 Nexus 7 running Android 5.1.1 and it worked first time just like you said.
If the tablet is factory reset again, through the standard settings after the Unlock and Rooting has taken place, will it stay Unlocked & Rooted, or does it revert back to it's original non-Unlocked non-Rooted settings? I'm curious for resale purposes.. thanks
Thank you Reverend Kyle for making this so simple. I never rooted a device before even though I have had plenty of Android phones and tablets.
Thank you very much, Kyle. It is my first tablet and i would probably have no idea how to root it, but you guide has solved all my problems.
I just rooted my device. It worked perfectly. There were some differences because the app has been updated. But this is a great video. Thanks RK!
Thanks for this. With my first 7 i didn't have any issues and tonight it was killing me till I saw your post.
great guide - some new options and slightly different screens for NRT v1.8.0 but still a valid and excellent guide. Next step - AdBlocker.
Great vid Rev. I never rooted any device before, but I decided to go for it after watching your video. It worked great and now I can use all my thumb drives on my new tablet!!! I was even able to install flash on it. This tablet now officially kicks ass :)

This is one of the best videos to explain it to us newbies. Have you got one for Nexus 10 yet? Thanks
Awesome! Wug's U/I is a little different with the latest version (1.6.1) but I was able to follow along with no trouble. THANK YOU so much!
My tablet is now stuck on boot loader screen. Says booting downloaded image. Keeps being stuck. Waited 10 min. How long it suppose to take?
When Rooting, my Nexus 7 is stuck on "Booting Downloaded Image"..and I have to reboot Wug's as well as Nexus 7 everytime! Any solutions??
My tablet is stuck at boot loader screen. Says booting downloaded image. Waited 10 min. How long it suppose to take? Keeps staying there.
I received my Nexus 7 Today and i did the same thing i unlocked it already. Thanks for the video man!

I'm running stock 4.4.4 and was wondering if this would still work, also will I be able to update back to 4.4.4 after the rooting process is complete.
Won't need to. That's why you select your unrooted build in the setup.

Thank You very much, First thing I did after obtaining my new Nexus 7. This is an excellent guide.
Help! I don't have "Developer Options" on my Nexus 7 G1. I have "Printing" where you have that selection.
Works perfectly, thank you! (2012 Nexus 7 5.1.1)
I was wondering after you unlock and root, do you have to keep it on usb debugging?
Yes. I have been told that movies will not play from the Play Store, but I have not tried that myself. OTA updates will still occur while rooted too.
I just picked up this tablet last night and am definitely an average person trying to do all this. Are there any real major things I can do with rooting this or should I just save myself the time. Any insight would help!

i have now got that part, thanks, where do i install the program he uses

great ,guide worked well, followed step by step instructions and rooted no problem.great keep the guides coming.
after i did the drivers it says android composite ADB interface im running windows 8 so will it still work
So if I unlock my device and it resets. If I have save on cloud enabled. Will I lose EVERYTHING. Or will I still have all my buys, and accounts on my games?
is this the same as jailbreak , will this void any warranty i have on the nexus
Have you tried downloading the 4.2 zip file and load it using CWM. Or you could unroot your device using the root toolkit, install the OTA update and then reroot.
Do you lose your WiFi connection when you root it???
Thanks for the Walk through Kyle!! It was as easy as you said it wold be!!
When I rooted mg kindle fire I had to do a factory reset because I had to much stuff on it. I have alot of stuff on my nexus 7 I don't wanna lose but I wanna root it will I have to do a reset you think.
so if i back up first, then unlock, i can click restore and all my stuff will be back?
Hey, would this process work the same on the Samsung Galaxy Nexus phone?
Does this work similarly with the gnex? And how do I make it yakju from yakjuxw while rooting?
will i be able to update my nexus 7 to android 4.3 or 5 when that comes out?
My tablet doesn't work with OTG adapters. What do i do?
Nexus 7 32 GB
Build JOP4OD
ToolKit 1.6.2
Followed this vid using the above and it went fine. A couple of extra steps in the updated toolkit + I made a backup before starting, but all went to plan.
Thanks for the video...
can i ask something, can we rename/delete the file named !Ready ToFlash ?
Kyle - I am having issues with mounting a hard drive to my Nexus 7 - I have a Lenovo 320GB and a Segate 500GB - I can see the Segate in Nexus Media importer but I cant see any of the files - When I openUSB HOst Controller it states that S3C USB Host Driver not found -
Do you know any work arounds? Or Does anyone know what hard drives will work??
Is it not necessary to re-lock the bootloader after rooting?
Will it cause any problems in the future though?
I cannot find developer options under settings. Any ideas?
