That old man is worth his weight in gold. I am 68 and still working as a machinist I am not as strong as I was at 40 but the life skills 👌. Love what you do.

Let me tell you a story about no safety glasses. I was cutting a piece of wood with a skill saw and NO safety glasses and I felt something hit me in the eye. It really hurt for about a minute or so and then it stopped. I didn't think anything about it until about six months later when my eye felt like it had something in it and it really started to bother me. I started looking in the mirror to see if I could get it out and noticed a very tiny spot on my eye over the iris. I realized I wasn't going to be able to deal with that myself and went to an eye doctor who removed what I later came to realize was a tiny sliver of one of the carbide teeth from the saw blade. To make a long story short WEAR YOUR SAFETY GLASSES!! And a face shield with an angle grinder. Good video by the way.
After you've had that hour of fun starring into a needle as it digs metal chunks out of your eyeball, you'll learn to put on safety glasses. Did for me anyways haha
Unfortunately, it often takes 1st hand experience (a personal injury)...or mandated safety procedures, for someone to regularly wear proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
I don't know what they do now but in the 80's I was drilling under a car and go a piece of metal in my eye and waited for a few days thinking I just scratched it. When I finally did go to an eye doctor they had to literally use a drill on my eye since the metal had rusted. I remember the doctor telling me not to blink which is impossible. I cringe every time I see these guys grinding with only regular glasses. I have had pieces glance off things and get around regular glasses so please do wear good safety glasses.
One time I was trying to line up some holes by prying with a pin punch about 1/4" diameter (always use the proper tool!). The punch snapped off and the smooth flat working end hit me right in the eyeball. It made a scary looking bloody spot the same size as the punch, but no other ill effects. But when I found the broken piece, the broken end was jagged and razor sharp. Could have been a lot worse.
@@jimjenkins003 I was using a chop saw cutting some metal studs when I got a piece in my eye, and I was wearing my safety glasses.
