Great head to head. I have only had the Redbreast 12 year and love it. Cheers!

I'm happy to hear about this. I can get the RB CS with relative ease for $65 (have it) but haven't seen a Blue Spot since 2020 for msrp. I can buy one for $200 and that's a NO WAY from be dawg.
I'm still curious to try it but you've cut my FOMO off at the knees. THANK YOU for that.

Nice Review! Will open the Red Breast 12 CS 2021 this week, knowing I need to get it to the shoulder. Still have an older B1/B17 kicking around as well.

The old fruitiness is not to be expected but it’s really good if you don’t expect the liquid to be like the older ones you’ve had.

Redbreast in general seems to do well in head to heads with Spots.

Did the exact same comparison blindly last Saturday. For me, there was nothing to separate the two whiskeys. They were both neck pours, so I guess I'll have to repeat once the whiskeys hit their sweet spot. Cheers Rob. And enjoy your March break 🥃🇨🇦

I have found with the RB12CS, that right after pouring, add half a tsp on water, let it sit for at least 15 minutes, and then the tropical fruits come alive. The batch quality of this one, in my experience, is right up there with the best before it.

Great h2h , two of my favorites. love the Spot whiskeys green and yellow so far but sadly missed the opportunity to buy this while it was jn stock at lcbo and redbreast 12 is my go to but have not yet been able to find the cask strength , love the 15 and lustau as well . In my opinion the reason these will always compare well to each other is because the base spirit both comes from the Midleton Distillery so there will always be some small subtle similarities between the two brands

got both this week in BC, RB12CS for $100 online from AB and blue spot for $230 on the secondary market. Resell price for the blue spot is way too high here, $300 average lol

Rob, great H2H. I've got the B2/19 of the RB CS at 55.8% ABV and 2020 Blue Spot at 58.7% ABV. Both are excellent but I'm leaning more to the Blue Spot. Will do a blind and throw in the latest RB PX at 46%. CHEERS!

I just did these two blind the other night. Pretty close to the same conclusion. RB had a touch more oak and BS was a touch brighter and fruitier but I graded them the same. Very tough to blind these two, so similar.

I have a bottle of RB CS waiting for me in N.Ireland, and I SO wanted to get my hands on a bottle of Blue Spot. The LCBO's distribution really shafted the eastern part of the province. I was loaded for bear! I just sat and watched the numbers go down and down and down in the GTA and down around Hamilton. :(. I did write to complain. Ridiculous. Ah well, next year, eh?

Blue Spot is really hard to find in the US so if you do find a bottle expect to pay USD130 - 150. Redbreast CS is likely to cost $80 - 90.

  • @chrisperrin2211

both are great Drams. Out f curiosity, how much is a bottle of Blue spot selling for now if it is even possible to get a bottle?

  • @jackthepickledhound
    @jackthepickledhound 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Value wins out over FOMO.
RB12 is on the "collect" list with Laph10 CS. I don't really need every batch but as long as Blue spot prices are crazy and RB12 is well under $100US I'm going to always keep 1 or 2 in reserve. Blue spot is not something I'm over paying for if I ever see one again.
The RB bottle goes down very slowly so I concur that it gets better over time, fruitier and more complex.

Sounds like LCBO debacle still resulted in one person being able to get 4 bottles. In Alberta it is nowhere to be seen and if it was here it would be 1 per household. I do have a Yellow Spot though. You should do a showdown between that and regular Redbreast 12. Cheers.
