I wouldn't call it weird. Playing Pokemon to catch them all (which I do) is hard enough. If I come across a shiny, I'll try to catch it, but they aren't exactly Pokemon I try to collect.
I feel the need to point out that on top of your 1 in 3mil odds of FINDING that Azurill, catching it in the first ball was a 33.7% chance. Which you did. So all in all, that encounter was somewhere in the 1 in 10mil odds of happening like it did.
When I was younger I found a shiny before I knew what a shiny was. Luckily I thought "man that Oddish is green. That's crazy" and actually caught it. Didn't realize how lucky I was until years later.

I was so surprised, shocked, and excited and i caught the oddish! i was gonna name it flippincool but one character was missing so i named it flippincoo, to this day my proudest achievement
similiar story, but mine was a pidgey in gold! I didnt know what shinies were so I thought the pidgeys colors were glitched. I managed to catch it, but unfortunately I /did/ know about missingno and I was afraid my save file would get wiped if I used the pidgey in battle, so I boxed it and continued using my regular pidgeotto the rest of the playthrough lol
My first ever shiny was a Marill in Ruby. It was before I even knew that shiny Pokemon was a thing so then I thought this route was special and ran around looking for another special pokemon. What was insane was that after running around for about 10 minutes I got a shiny Whismur. Needless to say I used up all my shiny luck on that day....
I also got my first shiny from Ruby. It was a Poochyena then after catching that I ran around some more and found a shiny Kecleon which I unfortunately killed. I didn't know what shiny Pokémon at the time so the death of the lizard didn't hurt me as much... I still wanted it though. 😑
Mine was a medhyena shiny in emerald it was the first Pokémon I encountered sadly I didn’t have any Pokéball because it’s too early in adventure . I’m still upset to this day

Man that 1% odds reminds me of the first shiny I ever saw. Man was that a rough day in hindsight. It was in the OG silver 21 years ago, I had never heard of a shiny pokemon. Strolling from Ecruteak to Olivine. First time playing so I'm just vibing on the new areas im finding when suddenly I run into a Snubbull. But like, I saw the screen flash when it showed up and the colors went all weird. I know that Snubbull is pink, I saw the pokemon movie. And I'm playing on a gameboy color. But it was totally grayscale. So I start to panic, thinking my game is glitched, What if my save corrupts like the people doing gameshark on pokemon red? So I shut my game off, and when I load up, luckily my save file was all good except I had last saved before burned tower. I wouldn't learn of shiny pokemon until the Gyarados and talking with people later. And I wouldn't catch one of my own until Diamond and Pearl years later. But my first seen was a non swarm snubbull.
I also found a shiny snubull, in crystal. I was pretty out of it and tired, i saw the black shiny sparkles and the blue snubull... And i was like, oh, it must be night. but the thing is, i was watching the screen the whole time. And i never saw 'sparkles' so i don't know if i failed a shiny or not
Every Spinda pattern holds the title for the rarest shiny in pokemon I'd imagine. I'd be seriosuly surprised if 2 of the same shiny spinda pattern exist in the world at the same time without cheating.

The first Shiny I ever encountered was a Shiny Quagsire in the Great Marsh. I didn’t know what Shinies were at the time, so I assumed it was just a rare encounter. It did run away after 3 Safari Balls, but I enjoyed knowing that some Pokémon could be more special than others. With Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl now out, I’m hoping that fate grants me a second chance at catching it, hunt or no hunt, just so I can finally see that Quagsire once again.
My fastest shiny hunt was first encounter on Moltres in Let's Go. It wasn't a random encounter, I was planning to shiny hunt it, had my lil counter app and everything. I was in shock.
Let's Go has much easier ways to hunt Shinies than literally any other Pokemon games with it's chaining system. If my online friend could get multiple Shinies within the same day in that game, the odds must be too easy for Shinies. Part of the value of Shinies is from how hard they are to encounter. I support having higher Shiny odds, but if Let's Go makes it THAT EASY to get Shinies, I am against it. I only bought Let's Go because I have a little child friend who loves Eevee, and so, since they did not have a Switch of their own at the time, I let them use my Switch to play Let's Go. My kindness was rewarded though, as I got in Pokemon Sword a Gigantamax Eevee for having game data of it on my Switch

Once I spent a week looking for a Yanma - not a shiny, just a regular one - in SoulSilver before giving up. It's a 1% encounter on Route 35, and you can't use the repel trick because it has a similar level range to the Nidorans.

(Apologies if someone theorized this idea before, I just find the research and math fun!) After hearing the high odds for such a specific encounter, I decided to do a bit of research into what would super specific shiny pokemon has a higher rarity without it being un-verifiable, or incalculable (Spinda is an example of that, you cant really prove what exact Spinda ID you have all that easily, and a sizable percentage have visually identical patterns). As far as i can tell, the answer is... 1/6553600. Female Munchlax is a 1/8 chance. Gen 4 Shiny odds at 8192. Honey trees that contain Munchlax spawn it at a whopping rate of 1%. To those who aren't aware, there are further complications to this. 1. Out of all the 21 Honey trees in the gen IV, Only a random 4 will include Munchlax. Meaning you have to Slather honey at 100 attempts per tree until you find one. The in game money and time to repeatedly slather each tree would be less than fun. 2. It also requires 6 hours to pass before the honey will attract a pokemon. This creates a theoretical ~600 Hours without missing a second of interaction needed to just confirm a munchlax tree unless a workaround or exploit is achieved. That's 25 days, a full month if you took a couple weekends off. Now, some people might bring up something along the lines of a shiny Antique Sinistea/Polteageist, But that only comes in at around 2 million, as there is no gender present to aim for But... There /is/ one other pokemon that you might just be crazy enough to attempt after this mythical Yanma... EEVEE. A Female Eevee, Galar Route 4. Sword Version. It has that same 3 Million chance as the Azurill, only catch is that it is an overworld spawn, rather than tall grass encounter. Do with this knowledge what you will. 👍
My rarest shiny was actually a soft reset I was trying to soft reset for a good nature eevee that Bebe gives you at hearthome and my third soft reset was a shiny female eevee

In my first ever Let’s Go playthrough, I found a full odds shiny Weedle immediately on the first route you can find it. Because that was one of my first ever Pokémon games, I assumed that shinies aren’t that hard to find. Years later, never found another shiny. But for some reason, I can’t lower my standards for the difficulty of shiny hunting.

I remember several years ago, I found a shiny Pikachu of all things in the Safari Zone of my Ruby version. I wasn't even shiny hunting or anything; I think I was trying to catch a regular ol' Rhyhorn, actually. I was completely stunned when I found that little orange mouse. At the time, I was pretty young (11 or 12, I think) and instead of throwing a Safari ball at it like I should have, I threw a Pokéblock in an attempt to bait it and have it stay put like an INSANE PERSON. It freaking RAN after I threw that Pokéblock, after just one turn. Instant heartbreak... I know the pain of losing a shiny all too well. Nothing to do but keep on keepin' on, though! Keep at it, Lucy, I know you'll catch your own shiny Yanma someday! :)
I have a shiny rhyhorn. From the kanto safari zone in leaf green, but the first shiny i ever found was in the safri zone too, it was a chansey and it did flee so it evens out.

This happened to me a couple weeks ago, coincidentally with the same pokemon, but in Sword and Shield. I wasn't even shiny hunting, I just wanted a budew with a better nature for competitive reasons. And, I am not kidding or lying when I say this, but in the VERY FIRST EGG hatched with a shiny! The way I screamed, because up to that point I had only ever had like three shinies before, not to mention this was a shiny of my favorite pokemon line.
Not to brag or anything (well a little bit, maybe), but my record for the fastest shiny I've ever gotten is basically in the negatives! I was just going about doing random stuff in Sun version when I got the idea to try out shiny hunting. I did however feel that I needed to prepare for hunting and decided to head back to the Pokémon center to heal and swap out my party before starting the hunt. However, on the way back to the center (keep in mind, I hadn't actually started hunting yet) I just randomly find a shiny Cottonee. Imagine my surprise when it appeared before my eyes!
Something similar happened to me when I wanted to masuda hunt Zangoose. While I was preparing the hunt (getting hidden ability, good stats, ideal nature), I just hatched a random 1/4096 one in, like, 6 eggs. So I did a lot of prep for nothing but I'm not complaining haha

Fastest shiny for me was 30 in the wild and 12 by egg. But my friend got one in 3 encounters. 3 man, it’s crazy because we were in a call when it happened shiny hunting together.
My first ever shiny, I was hunting for a Chansey in the Leaf Green Safari Zone when I encountered a red Ryhorn. I chucked multiple safari balls at it, but to no avail. It fled before my very eyes. It was a sad day. I would later encounter a shiny sandshrew early in a separate playthrough and use it on my team. In the same playthrough, I also caught a shiny Dodrio, and a shiny Machop.
The fastest Shiny I've gotten in a game was actually in BDSP. I was EV grinding on some Starly and some Shinx for my Chimchar and my Shinx while I was on Route 202, the route after Sandgem town. Found a Shiny Starly before I even got to the first gym. Just evolved em into Staraptor today.
Azurill is NOT the rarest shiny in Gen 4. That distinction belongs to the Munchlax that can ONLY be found on 4 honey trees out of 20+ in Sinnoh. I don't know ANYONE who's found a normal Munchlax this way, let alone a shiny Munchlax. Let her know so she can try.
Not exactly. Munchlax itself is difficult to find but once you find it, it's a standard SR hunt with a 100% chance you'll get it shiny. It's like people who say Feebas in Gen 3 is rare, like yes, finding the Feebas tiles is hard but once you find it it's a 50% fishing encounter.
@@HexManiacAlexia Youd have to find the munchlax first which is the hardest part. Resetting on each tree at least 100 times to check if munchlax is there and go tree-hopping. Its certainly much harder. You can even argue its infinitely harder depending on how many times you want to check the tree til you call it quits :p

Once you've found it, you're 100% guaranteed to get it shiny unless you just quit the hunt because you can't phase on it. A 1% encounter, like the one in Lucy's video, people can phase 99 times for before they even get 1.

In all my years of playing the original pokemon diamond/pearl/platinum I had one shiny encounter. A ponyta. It was the first ever shiny I encountered. And I don't even remember if I caught it or not. Ever since then, I try to get a shiny ponyta in every game I play. Earlier this week I finally succeeded in getting one. In the new pokemon legends arceus. Even though it was through a quest that guaranteed it being shiny, it was a great moment of joy for me ^~^

( in pokemon shield) it was the first shiny i got in a main line pokemon game, i wanted to try shiny hunting for the first time so i looked up the shiny versions of every route 1-2 pokemon. i liked nickits shiny the most, so i went out catching every nickit i saw- but on the third encounter. SHINY!!

Also depending on if you had the shiny charm or not, your odds were 1/4096 * 1/8 so 1/32,768 without the charm and 3/32,768 with it

18 is really fast for shiny hunt! That luck is insane. My fastest was 15 for shiny Venipede (and it had its hidden ability which was mad luck)
And my longest was over 3000 for galar zigzagoon

If my online friend could get multiple Shinies within the same day in that game, the odds must be too easy for Shinies. Part of the value of Shinies is from how hard they are to encounter. I support having higher Shiny odds, but if Let's Go makes it THAT EASY to get Shinies, I am against it. I only bought Let's Go because I have a little child friend who loves Eevee, and so, since they did not have a Switch of their own at the time, I let them use my Switch to play Let's Go. My kindness was rewarded though, as I got in Pokemon Sword a Gigantamax Eevee for having game data of it on my Switch

Once I spent a week looking for a Yanma - not a shiny, just a regular one - in SoulSilver before giving up. It's a 1% encounter on Route 35, and you can't use the repel trick because it has a similar level range to the Nidorans.

After hearing the high odds for such a specific encounter, I decided to do a bit of research into what would super specific shiny pokemon has a higher rarity without it being un-verifiable, or incalculable (Spinda is an example of that, you cant really prove what exact Spinda ID you have all that easily, and a sizable percentage have visually identical patterns). As far as i can tell, the answer is... 1/6553600. Female Munchlax is a 1/8 chance. Gen 4 Shiny odds at 8192. Honey trees that contain Munchlax spawn it at a whopping rate of 1%. To those who aren't aware, there are further complications to this.
1. Out of all the 21 Honey trees in the gen IV, Only a random 4 will include Munchlax. Meaning you have to Slather honey at 100 attempts per tree until you find one. The in game money and time to repeatedly slather each tree would be less than fun.
2. It also requires 6 hours to pass before the honey will attract a pokemon. This creates a theoretical ~600 Hours without missing a second of interaction needed to just confirm a munchlax tree unless a workaround or exploit is achieved. That's 25 days, a full month if you took a couple weekends off.
Now, some people might bring up something along the lines of a shiny Antique Sinistea/Polteageist, But that only comes in at around 2 million, as there is no gender present to aim for
But... There /is/ one other pokemon that you might just be crazy enough to attempt after this mythical Yanma... EEVEE. A Female Eevee, Galar Route 4. Sword Version. It has that same 3 Million chance as the Azurill, only catch is that it is an overworld spawn, rather than tall grass encounter.

In my first ever Let’s Go playthrough, I found a full odds shiny Weedle immediately on the first route you can find it. Because that was one of my first ever Pokémon games, I assumed that shinies aren’t that hard to find. Years later, never found another shiny. But for some reason, I can’t lower my standards for the difficulty of shiny hunting.
I got Pokemon Let's Go pikachu on my birthday and I found a full odds shiny Geodude!

I remember several years ago, I found a shiny Pikachu of all things in the Safari Zone of my Ruby version. I wasn't even shiny hunting or anything; I think I was trying to catch a regular ol' Rhyhorn, actually. I was completely stunned when I found that little orange mouse. At the time, I was pretty young (11 or 12, I think) and instead of throwing a Safari ball at it like I should have, I threw a Pokéblock in an attempt to bait it and have it stay put like an INSANE PERSON. It freaking RAN after I threw that Pokéblock, after just one turn. Instant heartbreak... I know the pain of losing a shiny all too well. Nothing to do but keep on keepin' on, though! Keep at it, Lucy, I know you'll catch your own shiny Yanma someday! :)

I have a shiny rhyhorn. From the kanto safari zone in leaf green, but the first shiny i ever found was in the safri zone too, it was a chansey and it did flee so it evens out.
I was surprised that you encountered something this rare as a Shiny Azurill as a male and it is in the Great Marsh which is similar to the Safari Zone.😮

This happened to me a couple weeks ago, coincidentally with the same pokemon, but in Sword and Shield. I wasn't even shiny hunting, I just wanted a budew with a better nature for competitive reasons. And, I am not kidding or lying when I say this, but in the VERY FIRST EGG hatched with a shiny! The way I screamed, because up to that point I had only ever had like three shinies before, not to mention this was a shiny of my favorite pokemon line.

Not to brag or anything (well a little bit, maybe), but my record for the fastest shiny I've ever gotten is basically in the negatives! I was just going about doing random stuff in Sun version when I got the idea to try out shiny hunting. I did however feel that I needed to prepare for hunting and decided to head back to the Pokémon center to heal and swap out my party before starting the hunt. However, on the way back to the center (keep in mind, I hadn't actually started hunting yet) I just randomly find a shiny Cottonee. Imagine my surprise when it appeared before my eyes!
Something similar happened to me when I wanted to masuda hunt Zangoose. While I was preparing the hunt (getting hidden ability, good stats, ideal nature), I just hatched a random 1/4096 one in, like, 6 eggs. So I did a lot of prep for nothing but I'm not complaining haha

Fastest shiny for me was 30 in the wild and 12 by egg. But my friend got one in 3 encounters. 3 man, it’s crazy because we were in a call when it happened shiny hunting together.
My first ever shiny, I was hunting for a Chansey in the Leaf Green Safari Zone when I encountered a red Ryhorn. I chucked multiple safari balls at it, but to no avail. It fled before my very eyes. It was a sad day.
I would later encounter a shiny sandshrew early in a separate playthrough and use it on my team. In the same playthrough, I also caught a shiny Dodrio, and a shiny Machop.
The fastest Shiny I've gotten in a game was actually in BDSP. I was EV grinding on some Starly and some Shinx for my Chimchar and my Shinx while I was on Route 202, the route after Sandgem town. Found a Shiny Starly before I even got to the first gym. Just evolved em into Staraptor today.

Azurill is NOT the rarest shiny in Gen 4. That distinction belongs to the Munchlax that can ONLY be found on 4 honey trees out of 20+ in Sinnoh. I don't know ANYONE who's found a normal Munchlax this way, let alone a shiny Munchlax. Let her know so she can try.
No we can’t. Shiny hunting Munchlax is a masochistic endeavor that I don’t wish even upon my worst enemies.
Not exactly. Munchlax itself is difficult to find but once you find it, it's a standard SR hunt with a 100% chance you'll get it shiny. It's like people who say Feebas in Gen 3 is rare, like yes, finding the Feebas tiles is hard but once you find it it's a 50% fishing encounter.
@@HexManiacAlexia Youd have to find the munchlax first which is the hardest part. Resetting on each tree at least 100 times to check if munchlax is there and go tree-hopping. Its certainly much harder. You can even argue its infinitely harder depending on how many times you want to check the tree til you call it quits :p

Once you've found it, you're 100% guaranteed to get it shiny unless you just quit the hunt because you can't phase on it. A 1% encounter, like the one in Lucy's video, people can phase 99 times for before they even get 1.

In all my years of playing the original pokemon diamond/pearl/platinum I had one shiny encounter. A ponyta. It was the first ever shiny I encountered. And I don't even remember if I caught it or not. Ever since then, I try to get a shiny ponyta in every game I play. Earlier this week I finally succeeded in getting one. In the new pokemon legends arceus. Even though it was through a quest that guaranteed it being shiny, it was a great moment of joy for me ^~^

My first ever shiny encounter was a Ponyta on Diamond. I was a fool though. I had gone to the restroom and when I came back I saw it blue and my dumbass thought the game was broken so I turned it off and on again... A year later I found out what shiny Pokémon were. I'll never forget it.
I got a shiny nickit in 3 encounters. ( in pokemon shield) it was the first shiny i got in a main line pokemon game, i wanted to try shiny hunting for the first time so i looked up the shiny versions of every route 1-2 pokemon. i liked nickits shiny the most, so i went out catching every nickit i saw- but on the third encounter. SHINY!!
