I think there will be the platinum dex, as the trainer that gives you the flower to turn shaymin into its sky form is in the trailer, but isnt in the original games, only platinum. That and porygon z makes me believe so.
Honestly I think the overworld (especially the protags) looks like an rpg maker lowkey like the flowers in floaroma, I was hoping for a let’s go style with “normal” mechanics
Yeah, I've more or less decided I'm not buying it along with a few friends. I replayed Platinum instead. Same thing except slightly better story with no 3ds looking theme.
Honestly, when I first saw that hair, it made me think of an egg yolk for some reason. It's like a hard-boiled egg color. Hard-boiled egg jello wig 🥚🥚🥚🥚🥚
So my biggest issue with Barry’s ‘LGPE’ style model is not only the lineless model, the colours are more darker and feel like mud when together. Also his hair looks like slime plopped on his head with how translucent it is in sections.
Yeah I remember first seeing the trailer and thinking that the coloring was odd. Some colors were so drastically lighter than the others that it kinda made my head hurt. And I knew Barry looked a bit weird until I saw a comment saying there was no lining. Overall, I don't really have an issue with the game itself, and who knows, they might actually fix them
@@castform7 I definitely agree, lines over the models would make them fit with the backgrounds much better along with a lighting and shadow pass over them.
I saw a post somewhere that talked about how one of the big factors that makes it look odd it the lighting, everything seems kind of washed out and weird, lights seem to be in places that don’t really highlight the beauty of the world, for instance you can see on all the houses that the roofs are well lit but the sides are all dark, it makes to game feel weirdly cramped and boxed in. Lighting can be a difficult thing to pinpoint but when it’s done wrong things undoubtably feel off
I found the gameplay of lets go broken (can get extremely overleveled after shiny hunting for half an hour) but I think the art style was my favorite part of the game.
Why? I love the fact they’re keeping the original design I missed the top down view but obviously with the updated 3D battles and better resolutions etc
Seems pointless to call this a “remake”. A remake should represent the game as its best version (ie platinum not two separate inferior versions) if it were to be made today. Not a “faithful” remake of how it looked in 2007. Especially when it’s art style was so limited back then because of the technology it was made on.
Genie: What is thy wish? Gen 4 fans: We want Pokemon Diamond and Pearl remakes Genie: Your wish is granted. You'll get your _"remakes"._ *Laughs mockingly*
@JustSomeGuyOnTheNet dude, I can replay Gen 4 and Cynthia is still a hard battle, even after all this years and knowing about type effectiveness, EVs, IVs, natures, and abilities
@JustSomeGuyOnTheNet What's your point, then? The commenter just said they wanted her to be hard, not "AS hard" or whatever you're trying to say. And if you were a kid who couldn't tell which types were more effective (fire beats grass, grass beats water, water beats fire, etc.) then maybe you were just "bad at Pokemon" like you accused them of.
Unless Gamefreak holds off on new Pokémon till the postgame, Cynthia’s Garchomp, her usually hardest Pokémon, won’t be nearly as hard as it was, so the rest of her team would have to get a boost to retain her difficulty.

“Get ready Unova fans, it’ll be your turn to beg for remakes in less than a year” People were already begging for Gen 5 remakes the day after Gen 4 announcement, though most were memes.
As a Gen 5 fan, Gen 5 remakes will be actually very bad, because it means they won't remake Black 2 and White 2 probably, leaving great part of the plot of the region out. And even if they do, several things will be probably cut, like the Pokemon World Tournament and Pokestar Studios.
As a Gen 5 fan, I see more people asking for a Gen 5 Legends game about the Original Dragon, that people wanting Gen 5 remakes. Not to mention that they can't remake only BW or only BW2 yet provide a good Unova experience. Basically remaking Gen 5 is a sh*t idea. Remaking in the style of a remaster like SPBD could be ok I guess tho, as it would fix most problem Gen 5 graphics had with the DS resolution. But playing Gen 5 with correct emulator settings is just more worth it lol.
@@pokemonkarma Yeah, Gen 5 is the only gen that has a sequel title, so is the gen that is the most complex to make a remake of. Either they remake BW and it's sequels, remake BW BUT include it's sequels as a new mode after beating the game, or don't remake them at all, because really, you can't experience Gen 5 without playing both.
Your idea regarding "it's not the choice in artstyle, it's the execution" is just... EXACTLY how I'm feeling. I wish they had outlines, or some nicer colors, or just... I don't know, I've seen games do this exact style so much nicer and I just wish it wowed me! Pokémon can _absolutely_ go full cutesy, but there's a level of execution that I'm not getting here. I wanna see more gameplay, I feel like that trailer absolutely did not give me enough to go off of.
I think when they show off more game play we can better tell what it'll look like in the final product. Right now, its kinda just quick shots of early places
I feel like whenever you say "I'm gonna wait and see, I wasn't impressed with this" people ALWAYS jump up to tell you "IT'S NOT GONNA LOOK BETTER" but, like... I _genuinely_ mean that I'm gonna wait and see. Zero expectations. I'm not gonna avert my eyes when the game comes out! I'm still gonna at least check to see if I still don't like it.
It's just feels weird because they definitely have the money to make it look good but what we get just looks a bit lukewarm compared to what we've seen in the past
5:27 You nailed this perfectly, this clearly not a new experience, it just the old game but now with 3D models instead of sprites, and honestly I am the ones who are dissapointed. I really wanted for Sinno to have a treatment like ORAS with improved Sword and Shiled's graphics, but we're not getting any of it, and I'm a little bit sad.
@@doukzu honestly Unova got seriously shafted for megas and g-max. I like Garbodor but I know a lot of people don’t, and Mega Audino, seriously? Where’s mega Hydreigon, mega Haxorus, heck I’d take a mega Gigalith.
Bro why you guys really hate diamond and pearl remake I love it more then pokemon legend arcues also I hope it is a co op one so I can play it with my brother
OG Diamond/Pearl had just a Battle Tower with him rocking Cynthia's battle theme, likely if they do the minimum as expected, we'll have that single location as has become standard. Though reality may indeed be different in the end...
The gens 1, 2 and 3 remakes breathed new life into the originals with new features, zones and graphical upgrades to enjoy. This just feels like Nintendo trying to rerelease Wii U games onto the Switch with no remastering... Editing this to say that after finally being shown some actual gameplay and seeing how they're handling the old features and adding new ones I'm a lot more interested. Gonna actually consider buying one if things don't tank like Sword and Shield did closer to release date.
@@velconx15 kinda like of Gen 7's battle tree and Gen 8's battle tower but way more fleshed out. It was "under construction" in or/as which is game freak's way of saying they're too lazy
Personally I don't need new versions of D/P that are so slavishly "faithful" to the originals because I still have the actual originals. To me the biggest reason to remake a game is getting to see everything reimagined in whatever the current gen engine is. If everything is gonna look, and maybe even play, the same as the original games they might as well not have bothered with the "remake" and instead just ported the originals. Call me cynical, but this feels way too much like a minimal effort nostalgic cash grab, just a way to markup a pair of 15 year old games to sell at an inflated $60 price point. Legends Arcius has me somewhat excited, but Brilliant & Shining are probablably gonna be a hard pass.
Isn't that how the remakes work? Beyond that, I'm surprised nobody figured out that every remake comes out in a generation divisible by the original title. Kanto is the exception, given that we get that region pretty much every time, but gen 2 remakes in Gen 4, gen 3 in Gen 6, gen 4 in Gen 8
Arceus* but yes, I agree. As someone who did not buy a switch or SWSH, I was prepared for 2 years to buy a switch for JUST this in hopes that it would have the graphics of gen 8 or even gen 6.
I'm in the entirely same mindset about BDSP as you. It's a reskin at best - not a remake, and an underwhelming one at that which is *quite* disappointing. Legends could be great and has lots of potential but with action rpg you can make a lot of mistakes if you don't know what you're doing or how to inhabit the world correctly so I'm wary of it, but excited nonetheless.
Yeah...everything will be off. It’s just the small models are so tiny and cute but too cute so when the world is about to end everything just looks...Goofy
NO. We do NOT need Unova remakes. Not if they're just going to relegate the game'a development to what is essentially the "B-Team". I'm more of the opinion if you want to have adventures in Unova, just play B2/W2. (Especially because if there is one fact becoming evident; Game Freak simply doesn't want a National dex any more due to the fact that we have so many Pokemon now and apparently they can't figure out how to make it work for the Nintendo Switch.)
The official website mentions that BDSP will have “player-friendly conveniences of the modern Pokémon series” so I’m pretty confident there will be some new features
This has really felt like a monkey's paw curls situation. I've wanted a remake for so long now, but this made me regret all the time I spent wishing for that.. I don't want negative thoughts invading my mind when thinking about my favorite pokemon gen.
Yeah I have a small feeling they had some artwork for wii designs of d/p stuff. And they based alot off of that. Really silly theory, but....... I have no other excuse for this art style to be like this.
Yeah but that "smol" is not looking good with these 3d graphics. I'm gonna be honest here, I know it's still in development but the overworld characters look very ugly, especially the boy character.
Update from the future: the graphics and art direction have improved DRASTICALLY. I’m still not interested in such a close to the original remake, but it actually looks good now.
The chibi artstlye doesn't bother me - I'm more concerned that these remakes will be so faithful to the point of keeping all the flaws of the originals that Platinum mostly fixed. Seeing Porygon-Z in the trailer suggest at the very least the unbalanced Pokedex might not be an issue so that's a positive.
Lol the colors were also one of the things that bothered me the most when I saw the trailer. The DS version color palette was waaaay prettier, cohesive, and unoffensive than the remakes. I'm glad that someone else noticed since video games are like an interactive work of art. Thus the language and principles of visual art should be respected when designing a video game.
I'll admit, I actually think the chibis look cute, kinda reminds me of nendoroids and early HM/SoS. The colors are a bit... concerning, though. Same with the battle models being lineless.
I'm glad that they improved the graphics from this trailer a lot for the final release now that I'm looking back on it However...I still wish that if they went this direction it looked like Link's Awakening Switch does. Or at least a similar amount of effort into stylizing the graphics.
I feel like they only did this because of the backlash on sword and shield but I feel like it was only the graphics and not the models but either way I'm just excited to play this because I never played Sinnoh
@@jorgehuertas3995 with emulation you can also speed up the game so it's not so slow. If there really is nothing new in BDSP then playing DP on emulators would be the same thing

i’m holding out hope for bw to get the next “legends” treatment but set back to the start of the unova region with the focus on the original dragon and the two brothers
So bummed and surprised. DP In lets go art style would’ve been amazing. Pokémon legends (although using the “sinnoh” name), it is sinnoh before it was built up. So it will be open grassfields/nothing extremely recognizable. Pokémon legends doesn’t make up for diamond and pearl not getting a true remake with full proportion graphics Many fans anticipated to see the sinnoh as they know it in a let’s go style graphic with full proportion overworld characters and Pokémon, follow/ride Pokémon. It’s a bummer that this isn’t happening. They could have given us a modern let’s go graphic sinnoh for a new experience/true remake, and put the original DP on the eshop for people who want nostalgia. I understand some like the chibi remaster, but many are disappointed this region isn’t getting a true remake that utilizes modern technology to upgrade us from the chibi visuals that were only present years ago because it was what we were limited to. I hope DP gets a real remake one day. Pokémon legends will be amazing, but it’s a completely different region than sinnoh when it is built up.
Yes! Even Platinum was kind of slow in battles! I like Pokémon Platinum, but even I have to agree that the slow battles are not a good thing! It especially gets annoying running from many wild Pokémon! A faster-running Sinnoh game would be great!
I have a very soft spot for Sinnoh and it’s games as it was my first Pokémon in game I ever played. So when they announced remakes, I was ecstatic, then they showed the art and I was slightly let down. Like, I would have gladly waited a few more years if it meant better quality. Sorry if this sounds rude, but these are my thought.
I dont think you're being rude BDSP is disappointing even for non sinnoh fans. The gameplay is so similar to D/P to the point that im asking why bother if you have platinum? A game made ages ago? They could have waited to make this a more finished game but they didn't. Honestly? Why bother with the remakes for now? Postpone it! Legends arceus is great enough, push the BDSP until they're ready! But they didnt and now we have this disappointing unfinished feeling game
Guys, it's a new game which has most of the elements of an old game but updated and with better graphics. It is literally the definition of a remake, even if it isn't a usual pokemon remake
When let’s go pikachu was a little newer, my cousin straight up just found a wild Zapdos just chillin in the air. Don’t know how he did it, but it happened.
If they just did chibi characters like Oras no one would have a problem. Additionally these remakes do not look like the links awakening remake, open your eyes people
Its like Linksa awakening because it looks like the original game rather then updating it to look like newer entries in the series. Thats what we mean when we say that.
I think all of us reacted like that. My friend and i immediately thought "yeah, this is another modern videogame remake that's going to fuck up our happy memories".
As someone who lives in a super dimly lit house and sticks to very dark colors I’m very happy they seem to be going with darker tints but I know not everyone is a vampire like me.
the problem isn't so much that it's dark, dark colors can look good. The saturation is weird, the color palette doesn't match well and it overall looks muddy. From an artist's perspective it just looks like there wasn't much thought put into the colors, I agree with Lucy. It doesn't bother me too much though im still very excited, the only thing that really bothers me overall is Barry's model xd
I could honestly see the only difference in the Pokedex is that it is the Platinum Regional Dex + Sylveon because why would they include all the Eevee evolutions except Sylveon

Gen 4 kinda needed remake cuz it's pretty slow and the dex needs updating (2 fire types in dp, 1 if you didn't choose chimchar). B/W are great as is, even without older pokemon in the main story. The diamond and pearl games most people probably wanted was a game that's really close to the original ones but that brings something that can make them want to play it even though they already played the original games. It's pretty much what they did with OR/AS with the new graphics, the added episode at the end, the newest mechanics included into the game, new Megas, etc etc. Here, they did two games : One that is pretty much an exact copy with new graphics and one that is really really different.
"Get ready Unova fans, because in less than a year it's gonna be your turn to beg for remakes for the next 6 years." nah, gen 5 is already perfect as is
Gen 5 needs to be like legends Arceus and they could talk about N back in his days or go way back to the creation of the Dragons. It's my favourite and we need more.
I have to say that I was in the hesitation camp as well when I saw the first trailer. Though I found the new trailer has made me pull a 180. The colors feel a lot more vibrant and despite the chibi style, the characters seem a lot more expressive. I would love to hear CandyEvie opinion on the new trail.
These games just feel...so lazy and sterile. As somebody else said, it's basically just a reskin of D/P from what little we can see. If this were made like HG/SS were over 10 years ago you can bet there'd be new routes, a butt ton of new features and more. I don't see the greed for cramming in new stuff to improve on the originals, I only see the greed for nostalgia pandering, again.
It's a reskin? Have you seen some of the images on the website? There are actual cutscenes in the remake, and if anything the game looks more 3D than the original. The website says this: "The story of Diamond and Pearl has been faithfully reproduced than the original.' Focus on the story being the same. Not the postgame, Pokedex, or additional features. Just the story.
You're totally right. If it's just the same game but now with 3D what's the point of buying it? People will be paying full price for basically a mod of a handheld game that probably will have less features. They didn't even change the characters designs like they did in ORAS and HGSS.
YES OMG! I thought i was the only one who noticed the lighting and colors! Theyre fart too dark and smudgy for me. Anyway great video per usual, loved the depth and all the topics you brought up.
As someone who does challenge runs on Platinum, which is also my favorite of all the Pokemon games I've played, I agree with you almost entirely. I fear that there will be no improvements on it at all by release and would honestly prefer if it was delayed to be improved to it's limit. I’m playing through Pearl rn and it really does feel like we’re looking down on a doll house. It all feels boxed in everywhere you go. Maybe the models are on theme. I don’t mind them, as long as you don’t go immediately from BDSP to ORAS or SM
I still prefer the graphics other than the fact they look weird when they move, the sword and shield style graphics take away from making the games feel big because they simply don’t have enough time to make a world look so big with such complex graphics and 360 camera angles.

Lighting can be a difficult thing to pinpoint but when it’s done wrong things undoubtably feel off
As someone who wasn’t crazy about let’s go, even I would have much rather had something in the style of let’s go.

Yep
Isn't that how the remakes work? Beyond that, I'm surprised nobody figured out that every remake comes out in a generation divisible by the original title. Kanto is the exception, given that we get that region pretty much every time, but gen 2 remakes in Gen 4, gen 3 in Gen 6, gen 4 in Gen 8

I kinda hope we get Galarian evolutions as well. I did a Mime Jr Masuda to get ready for these remakes and now I don't know if I'll get to use Mr Rime...
@@Zacvh1 I don't see why they wouldn't include fairy type they included fairy type in Omega Ruby Alpha Sapphire

@@Zachanator1213 you never know though since they are really stressing "faithful recreation" in all the marketing so far so I do hope that there is a fairy type since thats kinda tied to megas in a way and I want those
Now I can’t wait for the Unova remake hounding to immediately begin!
That region had 4 games right out the gate so wonder how they’ll do that.
I cant wait for pokemon z
Unova don't need remakes in my opinion they're perfect. Gen 3 needed remake cuz the mechanics and old pokemon movesets needed updates. Gen 4 kinda needed remake cuz it's pretty slow and the dex needs updating (2 fire types in dp, 1 if you didn't choose chimchar). B/W are great as is, even without older pokemon in the main story. B2/W2 are perfect they don't need anything more
@@Enzed_ gen 3 doesnt need a remake
They already made 1
I thunk x and y deserves z
imo bw and b2w2 are the best looking games. the moving sprites and the 3d were really nice and I don't want them to remake it in the 3D chibi aesthetic
does anyone else prefer how pokemon looked with pixel sprites?

@@chamallow989 There IS a new game coming in the universe of Diamond and Pearl. It's called Pokémon Legends Arceus.
@@SanderEvers I know but that's not what I meant ! In Pokemon Legends we won't get the same characters, the same map, ... It's gonna be an entirely new game that's still in Sinnoh, but that's pretty much were the similarities end.
Because is not even the same, honestly i would rather play platinum than the new remakes
We should call it the International Dex because we left the Japanese regions of Pokémon since Gen 5

The website says this:
"The story of Diamond and Pearl has been faithfully reproduced than the original.'
Focus on the story being the same.

As someone who does challenge runs on Platinum, which is also my favorite of all the Pokemon games I've played, I agree with you almost entirely. I fear that there will be no improvements on it at all by release and would honestly prefer if it was delayed to be improved to it's limit. Instead of the chibification I wish they had just gone for a retro 2D aesthetic if they were determined to do it this way. Still, woulda preferred Millenniumloops's version more. Ya should check out his Sinnoh concept trailer he made. He did such a better lookin' trailer in about a week alone -.- it breaks my heart that I can't play his version!

You've really made me think, I will now associate these remakes as a "remaster" instead. And you know what? It makes me feel better. ^_^
Reminds me of when wind waker released everyone bashed on the graphics and now everyone loves it
Even BW/BW2 and LGPE were bashed when they came out originally, but most people really do love them now. People are finicky..
Everyone wants to hate on stuff early to seem cool but change their minds either because its changed their mind or its cool to like something. Like going with the flow.
I barely ever change my opinions and its why I still haven't bought lets go cause they don't interest me.
and Links Awakening Remake, lesson here is, do not judge until you play it.
Eh kinda. Although while Wind Waker got hate because "It wasn't Twilight Princess's edgy realistic look" aka hate because of what came before, this is getting flack because of the game's that came after it. Tbh I think it's in reference to how chibitized the character models were in the original game.
Now let's talk about what everyone SHOULD be worried about:
How boring the story of Diamond/Pearl was.
Platinum majorly upped the story so I pray they go with that story.
@@abloodcorpse3318 uhm... Twilight Princess came after Windwaker. You got it the wrong way around.
_EXACTLY_ my thoughts ...
It's just better when things are two dimensional ! You can manage proportions so much better and with the more powerful consoles they could make Kyorge Vs. Groudon look amazing without going 3D
Do you think they could?
@@seraphimsforge-master5433 But like... This is still 3D. And if you mean top-down rather than strict 2D, that's what the routes and towns were like in SwSh
@@tristanneal9552 Don't you think they could just do a two dimensional game and have that top down angled gameplay?!
I think they could and it would be a lot cooler as well because that's the OG feel of a Pokémon Overworld !
I think maybe once you get into battle ...you could have like Smash Ultimate graphics!
What do you reckon?
2.5D
@@tristanneal9552 issue is that even if that is the case, they would then have to make the towns double the size because the characters are double the size and they just don’t have time, take ballonlea for example, think about how much bigger that place would have felt if, 1, they had the characters at at lest x and y size and 2, had a top down camera view.
