oh and someone commentes 740 watts, last time I looked up the ZG I saw 1250 from an Emac which is what I run now, in a beautiful chrome swan box with a seperate power supply that is also chrome, from the late 60's, I think I have ran these same tubes for almost 15 years and they are still going strong, no idea how old they were when I got it, I've enjoyed this amp and hope to rebuild it soon, I need 6 ZG's in my life, good work there, beautifully done and love the meters on the front, I wish mine had similar, the kne it does have is broken. 73 from Memphis
@@jeffgrey1566 when u could afford them now price of decent transformer even the filament cost unless u can find at local radio festival had 2 pairs to fit in heath kit 220 paid 110 for both but sold amp but don't need big power with right antenna ur good to the last drop
I built a 4 tube 3-500Z back in the late 80s for a friend, had 2 Peter W. Dahl transformers, and a 4.000 watt Wawassie black cat meter built into it, it was nice, it would slap the 4.000 watt meter driving it with 120 watts, it would melt the insulated 200 ohm track wire going up the mountain, and the RG8U coax would get hot if used for long periods, it ran on a 240 VAC stove plug.
A 3-500zg tube is rated at 740 watts per tube at 3000 plate volts according to the RFParts datasheet. 740 * 6 = 4440 watts. Nice amp. Would not mind having one myself.
looks like my next amplifier, I absolutely love the 3-500zg's, who wants to look at boring steel tubes? I'd like to know the cost and build time for one of these bad boys. SC Memphis,Tn
How much would a amplifier like this cost ? And how much power would it put out full power. 73 unit 654 SOUTH East Georgia getting down. I seen your comments on the output of over 10k that is bad boy amplifier. Wow..... More amplifier than I need. 73 unit 654 (OLDYELLA)
Not sure what you mean by "will it PEP safely"? But it will run full tilt safely and easily. It wouldn't be sitting in my house if it wasn't safe. As for what it does, I guess that's all in what meter you're running and the line voltage at your home. Conservatively 1500 watts peak per tube X 6= 9kw PEP. It has been tested up to 10kw which is 1666.6 watts per tube. Average power is a little over 4kw on a 25kw slug and between 3600-3800 watts average on a 10kw slug.
will be nice in the winter. Plan is to run my 1956 johnson Ranger, Hammurland HQ180 receiver, a single 500z into the 6tube 500z for an all glass station

740 watts AVG so the pep is much higher
yeah, and then when you shove 3600 volts to the plates......
That is a nice looking box! I would love to have one like that someday...
Would u have a schematics for an amp like this or a detailed parts list?? Thank you
I heard jtg a few times last week up here in boston..he was sounding good.

What does that sell for, where is it made, and will it PEP safely?
