#49 Abandoned historic home - lot of stuff left behind

  • And no, not super old CW era stuff, just modern day stuff left behind. Changed title to simply historic since just going off owners word.
    Found this place back when the weather was really hot. This place has a lot of near history - served as a jail, hospital and home.
    Sorry for the poor camerawork - I was still new at this, and Bekah wasn't with me to film, also hadn't purchased the new light yet.

    I can't help but feel that whomever ransacked the house was on a mission to find something in particular and the person(s) who lived there got outta dodge before they showed up and literally left their life behind. Great explore, Rick! Thanks for sharing.

    I'd guess this one to have been abandoned somewhere between 2008 and 2010. At 4:07, that looks like it might be a Rock Band video game drums controller - Rock Band came out on Nov. 20, 2007 so if it is a Rock Band controller that puts an earlier boundary on abandonment date. There's a LOT of 2000s stuff in that house.

    Great video, you took loads of time to let us all have a good look, it seemed a pretty good home at one time, pity the roof was in so bad condidition, but that could have been fixed, shame it was being demolished. Thanx for sharing once again

    WOW! What a odd layout. with 3 full bathrooms.. Makes one wonder what the story is behind the ones who just apparently walked away leaving all that stuff behind, Was it maybe a sudden death or a incarceration? and why was it left in such a mess? Vandals maybe. who knows? also i noted a newspaper and a calendar in that sun room. that would have maybe indicated date as to when the place may been abandoned.. Great presentation . looking forward to you next discovery..But pleas next time pay closer attention to calendars and newspapers.. Stay safe and be careful...

      The computer is early 2000s Sony VAIO running XP so if that's anything to go by then sometime between 10 & 15 years ago.

    Videos like this make me wonder about the family. What would make a family leave everything behind? If only walls could talk...
    Great video!

    • @bradsmith1934
      @bradsmith1934 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      This was a "rental" meaning the family likely could not get a loan to buy or were only there temporarily.
      I can tell they spent like crazy on crap they did not need (TVs in every room, toys & stuff galore) & on top renovating all the while the roof is falling apart.
      ..typically ppl run out of $ & have to move to someplace 1/2 the size so no room for 10 TVs or 3 truck loads of big furniture & computer stuff, OR, they were kicked out for not paying the rent.

    • @ruthwalton3457
      @ruthwalton3457 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      pennellkay or even better you keep paying the rental and find landlord on doorstep one day asking why you are not paying, only to find agent has done a bunk with all the money. so left with no home no deposit and having to prove you have been paying in order not to have to pay rent twice. we were lucky we had documents to prove paid

    You missed a lot of clues on when it might have been abandoned. First, there was food in the pantry. You could have picked up one of the jars and checked the expiry date. Second, there was a newspaper in one of the rooms. You could have picked it up and checked the date. This house looks like another one that may have been trashed by storms. Or, it's possible it was another foreclosure abandonment. Though, you mentioned having talked with the owner of the property. What was his/her story?

    Those "onions" you saw on the shelf in the garage are actually flowering plant bulbs. Like tulips and daffodils etc. You plant them in late fall before the first snow and they sprout and bloom in the spring. I really love your videos and subbed after watching two. Keep up the great work.

      I'd say it was abandoned well after 1998 - I saw a Rock Band drums controller and that game came out in 2007, as well as numerous things, such as the Scene It board game and Mr and Mrs Smith DVD that would date to mid-2000s at the oldest. '08, maybe, but not [98.

Maybe these folks got evicted and didn't get their home packed in enough time? Wouldn't be surprised with the economy ect..just a thought.

    Well, if my place ever becomes abandoned and you explore it, you would be very surprised to find up to eleven toilets, maybe even a couple more than that. No, I don't live in a massive hollywood hills 60 million dollar mansion, I live in a rooming house that is a Victorian mansion almost 200 years old. Only 2 of the washrooms are original washrooms, 3 other washrooms were made by cutting part off other rooms and some rooms have their own washroom with just a toilet and sink. You may or may not know Alexander Keiths beer, he and his family may have lived in this house at one time, if they did their bedrooms would have been at the top floor where I live, their servants would have lived on the floor below me and the first floor would have been the main living area with the kitchen, dining room, den and living room and possibly an office too. The basement was where the was and there's an old garbage incinerator down there.

    I just find it hard to believe it was pre-civil war era. It is interesting none the less. What state is this house in? If it was used as a slave jail as you were told then it would have more than likely been in one of the southern states that seceded from the union.

      I agree. I'm sure the owner wasn't lying though. What reason would he have to lie ? Also, it's in the south, yes

      @zudemaster It's entirely possible that there was an original Civil War era structure there that was torn down and the house built on the same spot (the records back then may have been incomplete or sketchy).

    For "pre Civil War" it sure has a lot of modern upgrades... That reindeer! Creepy!
    Computer - SVGA video on the motherboard, 25 pin printer cable... I'm surprised it said it was new enough to come with Windows XP. Must have been a very entry-level Sony.

    You gave the impression there were civil war artifacts. Looks like a lot of junk to me.

      Not really. It's a cw era home. Has nothing to do with the innards. Even in description I clarified that. It's historical but inside is just modern junk. Sorry

    Didnt appear to be abandoned to long ago. Yes. I do see the work of vandals but I see signs of poor house keeping as well.

    Is it abandoned or did someone just die and the living person that owns the home just not there to prevent you from breaking in?
