The very old newspapers were packaged so carefully as to preserve them for their history !! You should have taken them as no one cares about this property and they could have been taken to a local library . Regardless if you should see a rare painting in these abandoned home take it and donate it > you never would leave a Picasso behind or a Monet !!

The plastic wrap that the newspapers were wrapped in looked like it might have been a special material to resist deterioration by sunlight and the environment. You should have either wrapped it back the way you found it or better yet, take it with you. I've seen enough of these videos to know that there is a sort of unspoken "policy" of never taking things from the houses that people go into. But there are times when doing so will save some important items from being totally lost forever. If someone like you came across a stash of money, would you keep it, leave it there or even include it in the video (and then keep it)? The same question holds with, say, an historic document - like an authentic copy of the Declaration of Independence. Would anyone take (save) this or leave it there to be lost to the elements? There is a such thing as discretion, and for the most part, recording but not disturbing is a good policy. But there are times when good judgment requires removing an item of significance to keep it from being destroyed. This house was jam-packed with "discretion".
Hey, you recently responded to one of my comments on a vid you made near my hometown area. If you did indeed recover and preserve the precious finds here your aim is very noble and hugely appreciated. How people could leave things like this to the elements is a mystery but you've made it right in some not so small way. Looking forward to new discoverys coming our way!
The owner of the newspapers preserved them well. You shouldn't have opened them and just left them to rot. You should have taken them to your local museum or library.
I was thinking the same thing. the place is going to colasp and all will be lost . If you can go back a retrieve the items. Then donate them to the local musem is a wonderful historiacal, idea.

Andrew Brendan People with an interest in that subject matter, that region, that author, the original owner and where it came from... even how it looks and all the contemporaneous notes will make those books very interesting and collectable. plus they must be preserved now in order for them to age further and gain additional value in the future. As someone who focuses on higher value items you don't seem to understand what makes old books of any age intrinsically interesting to others and saleable.

The WW1 and WW2 newspapers are probably worth some money. Just because they are so well preserved. They would be a great collection for a small museum or something. I have some old newspapers, but they are not that old, and not in that good a condition. As for the historical stuff from the 1960s, it was common for newspapers around that time to print special historical collector editions. I'm not sure these are worth any money, but they are still cool.
The historical society would go gaga bananas over those newspapers and books. I saw one folder that said photographs. You need to go back and collect all those documents and turn them in before they are all ruined. That's the right thing to do. It was a nice long video, thank you. Now it's time to go back with a couple good boxes and collect all that stuff.
Do not vandalize or steal from the places you visit. Every item in that place tells a story, gives the place an antique feel to It. Just take photographs, do not leave or steal anything.
Michael, I think most UEs agree with that usually, but this stuff will rot completely away within a year, especially because he did not replace the newspapers where they were stored away all these years. I'd rather he took them than left them out in the elements.
but items like that need to be preserved . yes i agree things need to be kept has they are . but those items are gonna be gone within the year . they need to be put in places to be cleaned and looked after for people to enjoy years from now . that building is gonna be gone soon because the weather . when i visit places i leave stuff but in this case these beautiful items are gonna be lost to time . taking pictures is not gonna allow people to read the books or papers .
I usually condone taking things away from Abandoned places, but in this case, those books and newspapers will never be seen again when the rest of the roof collapses. They will be destroyed forever. I would have probably taken the books and turned them into the local Library, Museum, or Board of Education so that they could be handled and preserved properly. Literature should always be respected just like the person that read and cherished that Literature. I wonder what he/she taught? Amazing find! I wish it was not too dangerous to see what else was in there.

I am a history teacher and this stuff looks exactly like the memorabilia collected by a history teacher. Those old newspapers, if original, would be worth preserving.
I have watched many abandoned videos. My husband watches the history channel a lot. I have learned more about World War 2 I mean it is amazing. That news paper is piece of history that should never be forgot. So many people died and were wounded in that war. America has not seen war on her land since the Civil War so we take it for granted. I remember when my brothers were drafted during the Vietnam War. Don't let that history rot there. There is a reason it was you and Bekah found it.

That stuff is irreplaceable. You really should consider going back and taking that stuff to a museum. It is going to be ruined if not preserved. There is a lot of history that has to be saved. You really should push the only leave foot prints aside for this one. It is so sad those newspapers were preserved for a reason. Possibbly to be found by wonderful people like yourselves. The place is beyond repair and I dont think anyone else will be visiting.
Teachers are the ultimate boarders. My husband and I are both teachers and we have saved ∧ collected so many things to use in the classroom. This person must have been a history teacher. Probably loved history himself and used these items to show his students!! Very cool. I hope you broke your rule and saved those books and newspapers.. Incredible find!

Oh my gosh you two!! Just watched #53 abandoned Teachers House!! Oh if you could only go back and retrieve the really old books and special newspapers!! No I know you guys never take anything from houses and I totally understand and respect you both for that.... but... did you know that you can take really old rare books and newspapers like the ones you found to the library and donate them for all Americans to see? I think the overwhelming majority has voted that maybe a trip back to this house to save the papers and books may be a good idea. You can donate them to a museum or historical society to preserve history. No one here will fault you for this. I know you are only there to document a decaying building, but soon all will be lost to dust. Archaeologists preserve antiquity. Just a thought.

I think it's your duty to preserve those books. The newspaper events around WW2 she likely lived thru why it meant something but obviously she taught history clearly was her passion. The building likely is condemned please go back and gather the books find out her name and donate to local museum in her name. I like your videos. I'm a history nut too. Books themselves in another 20 years will be antiques. If she taught history that means she wanted to share it with others. If I lived close all historical things you found there should be donated to preserve her love of it.

I usually wouldn't approve of removing items, but those books and newspapers belong in the historical society in your area! As a genealogist I would love to look at them. There aren't many books and newspapers left and in such good condition. They need rescued! Also, The Night Before Christmas book also needs rescued! That was in fantastic shape! hey Rick & Bekah, awesome explore,, now normally in a house explore i would say, yeah , don't steal anything leave things as they are, don't take them,,,,,,, but this however, is an exception to the rule, i really think that you guys should go back there and carefully collect some of those papers and books, not even for financial gain, but for the historical value of those pieces,, the newspapers especially, whoever the person was who owned them,, definitely wanted to preserve them and sadly, that's not going to happen if they stay in that house too much longer , you can see in a short time it's going to be a crumbled mess ,and all that history will be lost,,, i'm sure by now, ,Most of that family has probably passed on and even if not, i'm sure they'd be glad to see that some one at least preserved those pieces , it would be such a shame to see them get ruined by the house and by the elements , those books can easily be restored to take the mold off of them,,, and the local county historian's would probably be interested in them
I hope you go back and save those newspapers. Those are of historical significance and should be given to your local Department of History to be preserved for future generations.
I think if you pull the former owner's stuff out of envelopes or folders such as personal papers or cards you should make the effort to put them back the way you found them. To do otherwise is disrespectful, even if the person is dead and/or gone.
This is an amazing find kids. I wonder if you could try to find the owner of this property and ask permission to remove the old books and newspapers and see if the local museum would be interested in displaying them. It does seem such a shame to let these things just rot. Happy exploring kids!

I had completely forgotten about Easter Seal stamps! I wish the good old things would be salvaged. People love the old books. Please justify salvaging them. You can donate them to an old book store if you don't want to have taken anything for them.

You know that person would have wanted that, unquestionably.Please tell m you didn't leave all those old newspapers exposed on the bed without rewrapping them... these explorers ( in general, not just them) need to understand salvage and relinquishment, as you can clearly see that no one cares about any of that stuff now and the original owner couldn't have made it any more clear that ,,,,,~.they wanted it preserved saved and enjoyed not left to rot and be destroyed after having gone to all that effort to collect and preserve them ~!!!!!
I would have nabbed those newspapers AND those books! Clearly they've been forgotten about, but God wanted you to find them! Someone took tender care in preserving them, and they need to be preserved forever!
What a find! Great items in the house and great camera work. Thank you for showing the books; I always like to see them. I have some experience with antique and collectible books and can tell you that even though those books are old the only one that might have had any monetary value is the one with Thomas Edison's picture. Because of the condition of the book and if it has a damp smell that particular copy may not be worth much if anything. I come from generations of teachers who all lived in the same house over many years. Old textbooks are a familiar sight!
I can't believe someone just left all those cool Civil War Publications and those Declaration of War newspapers....all those other old papers too!!!! WOW!!!! Crazy!!!

The only reason that the States declared war to Germany is because Prime Minister Winston Churchill was a close friend of Teddy Roosevelt and England was loosing their battle with all their military floats at sea with the Navy after the german invasion in 1941. These Documents shouldn't exceptionly be in that house, for they should be preserved as official artifacts in a Library archive for future historical research purposes. Thank you, Rick and Beckah. It seems to me that the teacher living there was a history professor. I know there's a code of taking nothing, but those items were historic and should be preserved. I can't believe that anyone who took such care to persevere these things would want them to rot! Wonderful find, guys!

I understand there are certain rules for exploring, but PLEASE tell us you made an exception this time.. those papers and books are invaluable. Donate them to the library. The owner obviously understood their significance and tried to preserve them. Carry on that person's legacy by giving them to a library or school.
By far, the most interesting explore. Hated to see all the history memorabilia left to rot. It would have been better to take it to a library for safe keeping. They would probably know where to place them. Sad to see it just disintegrate.

Check for a place to keep them under glass, museum show case. To be preserved.

" there is a sort of unspoken "policy" of never taking things from the houses"... well when "things" are books and newspapers I think people should rescue them from decay, take it to a public library to be properly preserved for future generations.
I think it's your duty to preserve those books. The newspaper events around WW2 she likely lived thru why it meant something but obviously she taught history clearly was her passion. The building likely is condemned please go back and gather the books find out her name and donate to local museum in her name. I like your videos. I'm a history nut too. Books themselves in another 20 years will be antiques. If she taught history that means she wanted to share it with others. If I lived close all historical things you found there should be donated to preserve her love of it.

I usually wouldn't approve of removing items, but those books and newspapers belong in the historical society in your area! As a genealogist I would love to look at them. There aren't many books and newspapers left and in such good condition. They need rescued! Also, The Night Before Christmas book also needs rescued! That was in fantastic shape! BTW, love your channel and videos!

hey Rick & Bekah, awesome explore,, now normally in a house explore i would say, yeah , don't steal anything leave things as they are, don't take them,,,,,,, but this however, is an exception to the rule, i really think that you guys should go back there and carefully collect some of those papers and books, not even for financial gain, but for the historical value of those pieces,, the newspapers especially, whoever the person was who owned them,, definitely wanted to preserve them and sadly, that's not going to happen if they stay in that house too much longer , you can see in a short time it's going to be a crumbled mess ,and all that history will be lost,,, i'm sure by now, ,Most of that family has probably passed on and even if not, i'm sure they'd be glad to see that some one at least preserved those pieces , it would be such a shame to see them get ruined by the house and by the elements , those books can easily be restored to take the mold off of them,,, and the local county historian's would probably be interested in them

I hope you go back and save those newspapers. Those are of historical significance and should be given to your local Department of History to be preserved for future generations.
I think if you pull the former owner's stuff out of envelopes or folders such as personal papers or cards you should make the effort to put them back the way you found them. To do otherwise is disrespectful, even if the person is dead and/or gone.
It is all safe as before. No worries.

This is an amazing find kids. I wonder if you could try to find the owner of this property and ask permission to remove the old books and newspapers and see if the local museum would be interested in displaying them. It does seem such a shame to let these things just rot. Happy exploring kids!

Amazing stuff. Couldn't/shouldn't those things be preserved in a museum or such? Again, it makes one wonder who lived here...A single male school teacher with no family? Doesn't the county intervene? Interesting...
I had completely forgotten about Easter Seal stamps! I wish the good old things would be salvaged. People love the old books. Please justify salvaging them. You can donate them to an old book store if you don't want to have taken anything for them.
County records should show who it belongs to, these can't be lost.
Please salvage those old newspapers. Please. You know that person would have wanted that, unquestionably.Please tell m you didn't leave all those old newspapers exposed on the bed without rewrapping them... these explorers ( in general, not just them) need to understand salvage and relinquishment, as you can clearly see that no one cares about any of that stuff now and the original owner couldn't have made it any more clear that ,,,,,~.they wanted it preserved saved and enjoyed not left to rot and be destroyed after having gone to all that effort to collect and preserve them ~!!!!!

I would have nabbed those newspapers AND those books! Clearly they've been forgotten about, but God wanted you to find them! Someone took tender care in preserving them, and they need to be preserved forever!

What a find! Great items in the house and great camera work. Thank you for showing the books; I always like to see them. I have some experience with antique and collectible books and can tell you that even though those books are old the only one that might have had any monetary value is the one with Thomas Edison's picture. Because of the condition of the book and if it has a damp smell that particular copy may not be worth much if anything. I come from generations of teachers who all lived in the same house over many years. Old textbooks are a familiar sight!

Guys - your video have moved me enough to post the first comment I have EVER made on TH-cam - you must contact the local Historical Society so that they can attempt to preserve some of these treasures! Also, the person who lived here would probably been of significance to the area. I enjoy your videos, and I assume that you took the time off camera to leave things the way you found them...

The only reason that the States declared war to Germany is because Prime Minister Winston Churchill was a close friend of Teddy Roosevelt and England was loosing their battle with all their military floats at sea with the Navy after the german invasion in 1941. These Documents shouldn't exceptionly be in that house, for they should be preserved as official artifacts in a Library archive for future historical research purposes. Thank you, Rick and Beckah. I would take some of that stuff and give that stuff to historical type place to catalog and preserve..
It seems to me that the teacher living there was a history professor. I know there's a code of taking nothing, but those items were historic and should be preserved. I can't believe that anyone who took such care to persevere these things would want them to rot! Wonderful find, guys!

We can all let it be a lesson! If we have old collectibles, ( like I do) maybe I should donate them for safe keeping before my roof falls in after I croak! Isn't it amazing how much stuff most of us save for " someday"... especially CLOTHES! These videos inspire me to clean out my closets!! Lol!
You seriously need to save those newspapers. They are US history and will be lost when that place collapses. Its not stealing .... take them to a local museum. please please save them.
the books and notes, are from somebody coming into the country LEAGLY, I know, my relitives , keep there books etc for years, cause they were so proud of it
I understand there are certain rules for exploring, but PLEASE tell us you made an exception this time.. those papers and books are invaluable. Donate them to the library. The owner obviously understood their significance and tried to preserve them. Carry on that person's legacy by giving them to a library or school.
By far, the most interesting explore. Hated to see all the history memorabilia left to rot. It would have been better to take it to a library for safe keeping. They would probably know where to place them. Sad to see it just disintegrate.
