@@tyeklund7221 Ok, but one is a union between two settlements like neighbors saying hi. The other is a person claiming to be God and sacrificing himself causing a new religion to be popularized globally. Affecting local culture, philosophy and laws. Sure not everyone agrees about said person, but the magnitude of His sacrifice is obvious. This alliance seems to only affect a countryside at most. Not a global event. So it’s weird to mark a calendar that only affects a country portion of land instead of, maybe the Spell Plague that affected most of reality. Or a god being killed or born in this fantastical setting.
I hope you don't mind necroposting? As far as I know, the entire world doesn't use DR calendar. But Elminster does, because he lives in Shadowdale, and originally Forgotten Realms were presented as stories, that Elminster told to his friend in another dimension, known as Earth. There are a lot of other calendars (you can check them out on wiki), but since DR is what Elminster uses, its what we stuck with.
1). People on earth try to do it all the time. AD/BC for example. 2). The creators assume our characters live in an already described geographic locale i.e. the continent of Faerun.
@@rhymeaholik2465AD and BC are far from being 'minor local event'. There are billions of christians or people of christian heritage today. Even to the Muslims, the birth of Christ is also a significant event.
El is the chosen of Mystra. (Mystra being the goddess of magic and large breasts who is fond of schtupping her chosen) He's a wizard of obscene power who every woman throws themselves at, and the one time Ed Greenwood included a gay character it was so he could throw himself at El. (Only to be rebuffed because El isn't into dudes) In addition to his obscene wizarding powers that are to be expected to exist from the big mage of any setting, being the chosen of Mystra means he's got eternal life, supernatural durability, and the power to overcome antimagic fields, dispels, and counterspells, meaning that all the various mage big-bads can't do much against him. He's able to make full-power copies of himself at no consequence, meaning he can literally be everywhere at once to solve all the setting's problems. Adventurers are pointless in a world where El exists. 4E tried to fix the realms and make them a viable place to adventure by removing most of the characters who made adventuring impossible, but it didn't stick.
" He's able to make full-power copies of himself at no consequence" Okay, that's less the straw that broke the camels back and more of an anvil. It sounds like he operates essentially like a god without any of the restrictions. I understand chosen of Mystra are all over the place and it's kind of their purpose to be buffed up version of already serious threats, but bloody hell.
3:17 wow that art gave me flashbacks. I remember reading Spellfire when I was a kid. I do not remember anything about it, I think the same art was also available in Unlimited Adventures.
The Dalelands are a good subject, I forgot that the Rage of Demons mods (at least tier 2) took place in an area close as Cormyr is an important town throughout the modules. A nice bit of info about an area I didn't really know (although Elminster is the most famous in the area).
Wow! Huge work... very impressed. Was looking for infos about FR, and didn't want to dive in the Novels... and here you were, diving for me. French DM, I guess I miss subtleties of the language, but feel I get enough material to improve my adventures. I'm looking for a french experiment of the same sort... didn't find any so far on utube. If no one has tried to do so, I hope I might try myself some time... then I'll ask permission to borrow a few ideas... would you mind? Thx anyway.
1st You do Fine Work. I am not a player but always been a intrested in the Lore for my own short stories . The protaganist was a Blackguats .How exactly can a Blackguard be created without a deity(...although Bane appeared in the 2nd ps2 version)? BANE was powerful in Phlan but how does the events of the pool of radiance tie into BANE and Baals ascension to goodhood? Sorry for the questions I just hate plot holes.
I do believe the games are cannon, just like the books. However I don't know the plot of the games as I'm still working through BG1. Your best guess is my best guess 🤔
so, wait. is there still a community of drow that live on the surface in Shadowdale with the other races, or were they driven off? cuz that could pretty interesting, considering how drow usually are.
OH LOOK, here is the new DM making a comment on this video because he started a campanig in the dalelands and knew noting about it (I just picked one random place in a map)
Lizardfolk appear in many Monster Manual (last one, 5th edition, pages 204-205). They're related to Yuan-ti. And I think, Jorphdan mentions the god who created them (and all snake related creatures) in the 5 first videos of this channel about Gods Wars. One of my favourite moduls: "Under Illefarn" (AD&D first ed.) has lizardfolks as foes and there's some background about them. Hope I brought something you didn't already know.
I was killed in a campaign once by wandering into the dales as a chaotic neutral necromancer. I rolled to try a pitch to earn some gold where I would raise the recent dead to work in the fields for them. They took offense and killed me. I rolled a 1.... edit (a chaotic neutral character such as my necromancer is entirely focused on profit, with little regard for the ethics of the matter. Since I am inherently lazy,b He just wanted to not have to work, and raises the dead since their seemed to be little ethical fallout compared to like slaves or servants, i based my character off of how I would try to make a living as this character. Dude, I'm writing a 5e Sword Coast campaign and your content has been HUGELY helpful. Thank and keep it up!!!
seems odd that the entire world uses this one relatively minor local event as the start of their calendar.
We use a calendar based off of the death of a person half the population doesn’t believe existed sooo…..

another episode that i loved and never knew i needed. always been a fan of the dale lands. my character in neverwinter's back story is from there
Can you do a vid about Elminster? I have heard his name a lot but don't know who he is.
He's Ed Greenwood's Mary-Sue. He's a major reason the Forgotten realms doesn't work as a game setting.
Gabriel Russell

Thanks for clarifying, now I have to look up AR because I play Pathfinder, too
Cormyr video is coming clooooseeeeer....
Thank you! Could you talk about Icewind dale, the ten towns, and the spine of the world?
Nice video, thanks!
@Jorphdan I'm sorry I said short, I just thought Battledale, Shadowdale, etc, might warrant their own videos.

What is the song at the end called? Because it's really catchy
I would imagine The Dale would have a lot of half-elves.

Pretty sure they were driven off. It was back in the day :)

Could you do a video on the Cult of the Dragons??
I cover a bit of it here: th-cam.com/video/qtg5_c44ypc/w-d-xo.html
not a single dislike, awesome
I guess the real question is why would people use DR when the Dalelands aren't so significant in the grand scheme of things.
Is there any lore out there on Lizardfolk? I was planning on creating one as a character but can’t find much info about them.

Could you do a video on the calendar of Harptos
I think my Cleric of Sune is from this area!
Missing goblin slayer meme for the Dale's people
I don;t know what point you're trying to make about Essembra not having "Dale" in its name - that's because it's a town, not a Dale in itself.
Hell yeah
