    I think one of the most important parts of marketing a revolution and socialist program to people is to show and provide them with an actual material alternative to their present conditions that would improve lives. It's one thing to criticize capitalism, and people may agree with you, but unless you actually help them they won't help you.

    • @ForgotMyPasswd000
      @ForgotMyPasswd000 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      This, humans are very emotional creatures, socialists included. You first need to paint a bigger picture and show people why communists have their best interests, and then you can get into "the marketplace of ideas" or whatnot to deconstruct the propaganda everyone is taught from a young age.

      Tbh in the past I've criticized the failings of the theory of unequal exchange specifically because the conclusions of that theory (which argues western wellfare states are maintained by third world exploitation) essentially means that the socialist alternative is only offering North Americans and Europeans a lower standard of living. It's a flat out losing argument.
      I point out the hole in the theory, that the state really can't tax profits from international corps so they tax the value of labor, services and goods in the economy. The third world exploitation reduces the value of all three both in Europe and the exploited nations. Meaning, each year it happens the welfare state gets fewer taxes and therefore is increasing danger. The public finds that their earnings each year are less when you count the cost of living such as housing, which means they buy those "cheap" products of exploitation with debt, paying 20% annual interest on the TV. In other words the people pay more for goods and services NOW than they used to, the government gets less taxes and the only group of people benefiting are those financing debts and new ventures into third world exploitation.
      Unequal exchange impoverishes both societies, that's a winning argument and it's the truth. Telling Europeans they will have less under socialism because it will end unequal exchange is a losing argument.

      unequal exchange does very much enrich the global north. Resource extraction and neo colonial ownership of entire industries very much goes against your theory. The are huge western conglomerates that own land and industries all over the world, especially in Africa. The company extracts the resources through cheap or essentially slave labor, resources are either refined and brought back home or brought back home and then refined. An unequal exchange has already taken place but it obviously goes further. Refined resources are used in production of essential machinery, medical equipment, electronics etc. which is then sold back at a steep price. This can obviously also take the shape of fuel rights, which it often does, which contributes to the north’s cultural, economic and military dominance. Unequal exchange can basically take the shape of any international trade, for example compensating sweatshop exports very poorly and the producing nation’s industries having virtually no choice other than selling their product dirt cheap.
      The welfare state also isn’t reduced by unequal exchange. The global north isn’t in a position where the value of domestic advanced industries and service sectors get hurt through unequal exchange. The domestic industry gets plenty of value through resources extracted and service industries practically depend on the outsourcing of “unskilled labor” to the global south. The reason the almost nonexistent welfare state is reducing is because under our current world order of capitalism, there will always be incentives for the bourgeoisie to cut back on government spending on welfare. The global north could easily support way larger welfare systems as it currently stands but instead the governments are, as per usual, increasing military spending, neo colonial projects and subsidies for the bourgeoisie.

      I'm sorry but you're conflating things. 1) Corporate profits is not money that goes to the SOCIETY. These corporations do not pay taxes as you well know.
      2) This accelerates the rate at which the price of consumer goods deflates because it's driving down the floor, the costs. So the state gets less sales taxes.
      Social security in the US and similar programs in Europe are DIRECTLY funded by taxing labor. Outsourcing to foreign slave labor has objectively and provably reduced employee compensation since the 1970s, gutting the welfare systems that these wages once funded.
      Further, by becoming international these companies now have subsidiaries to redefine where "profit" occurs. Meaning, they pay no taxes themselves.
      So companies stop paying taxes. The sale of their products generate less tax revenue. Their workers are paid less and therefore pay less taxes. Unequal exchange nakedly defunds the welfare state in Europe and North America. You say it doesn't well where does the tax revenue for the system come from then?

    On appraisal of overall situation and outlook regarding a revolution, I highly recommend Mao's "A SINGLE SPARK CAN START A PRAIRIE FIRE", in which he scientifically analyzed the material environment of 1930 China and explained why the revolution would soon prevail, in the meanwhile opposed to the pessimism within the party in the wake of previous failures.

  • @auroraofclanborealis

    I think an important thing for the American left to remember is that we don't have to use the same language that our predecessors used. It's not a betrayal of the revolution to use the "wrong terminology" to communicate the same idea. It isn't wrong to appeal to the American ideals of freedom and liberty, of the American dream, to be perhaps a little magnanimous. As Hakim said, it's important to know what your class base wants and feels, and to balance that with a material analysis. Whether its Liberté, Fraternité, Egalité; Peace, Land, Bread; Socialism with Chinese Characteristics; or whatever the American slogan may be, what matters is a material analysis and adherance to the ideals of the revolution, not the way in which we describe it.

Usually minorities with little power to fight back. Fascism is polar opposite to Communism, but its slogans wouldn't attract people to them if they were honest about their intentions. Nobody wants to live in a world where only a tiny percentage of people are fit to have a life and the rest exist to serve them or as fodder, or are to be annihilated.

    • @CraigKeidel
      @CraigKeidel 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@TombaFanaticThey adopt those talking points because the ones making those talking points for party dissemination are WELL AWARE of the arguments in favor of socialism, so they co-opt those arguments and then divert to a rhetorical boogeyman instead of addressing the material situation. It's a very effective way to neuter the impact of socialist arguments because e.g. the stagnation of wages in America are not the cause of corporate greed, the influence of capital in labor laws, or the dismantling of unions, but aktshually it's the illegal terrorist mexican rapist gang members terkin er jerbs.

    Hi. I am a 3rd year architecture student right now. How would one discuss or advocate for Socialism in such a White collar environment? Architecture is relatively high paying field, where an expected path is starting one's own firm at some point. And we have to be in school for 5 years, then several years of work prior to licensure. And how does knowing how to design a building or working with Rhino even help prior to Revolution?

    • @somekats
      @somekats ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Don’t know much about architecture myself but I am an appreciator of good design in all areas and in my humble opinion I think it would be good for u to talk to ur peers in the field about the all negative effects a private for profit driven model of building construction can have and have had even in more recent history! Things like cost cutting measures that impact safety standards (ie that relatively new Florida apartment building that collapsed randomly not too long ago due to corruption and lots of other sleazy dangerous decisions made in design and construction that ended up making a super shitty shoddy work that fell to pieces and killed innocent ppl who had no idea they were in danger simply by living there) …stuff about the issues the profit motive can cause in ur field is always important and valuable to discuss I’d think and offering an alternative vision where building construction and architecture and infrastructure was designed to be long lasting, safe, and with the well-being and affordability of the residents and community in mind rather than projects where the number one priority is costs and profit and getting around regulations that r (usually) there for good reasons! Green and solar punk adjacent style architecture is another cool concept in that realm that can tie into a leftist framework too and there’s lots of vids on it on yt u can find along with unorthodox styles of construction and materials such as cob houses which I’m obsessed with for their beauty and aesthetic but also have many cool properties like being self insulating and heating and stuff like that are interesting topics to explore when thinking about what architecture outside of capitalism could be!! Good luck with your journey and I hope you can find a path that allows u to combine architecture with socialist values and principles , im sure there’s a way to forge that out for urself and ur field , I know I’d love to see changes in it myself I’m so sick of lameass ugly soulless gentrification apartment complexes that are everywhere nowadays…I’m sure u know more about this than I do and that shift to very sleek modernist architecture probably had something to do with profits and material costs if I had to guess but hey there’s another thing to consider with ur peers cuz I don’t think I’ve met a single young person who likes those apartment buildings we all tend to despise them in my experience lol yet they’re so common and often cheaper so they probs end up being the best option for some but we deserve better housing designed for human beings and the environment and our communities and lifestyles in mind so I remain hopeful!!!

      Thanks. I really enjoy my major and genuinely like the work. Yet, I am still not sure where exactly I want to specialize, and I am still developing my own sense of style. In my limited experience so far, most students in architecture and related fields really care about the environment, social issues, and helping the poor. Yet, I also happen to know someone a year younger than me in architectural engineering who really hates homeless people and would design a homeless shelter to be like a prison. That person is likely a lost cause, but others, I am not sure. I have been asked about whether I want to start my own firm when I was in my first year. At Cal Poly, our main history requirement is ARCH history, and the US and California Government is a total propaganda slop of a class. Luckily, it's not completely terrible. My friend is in City and Regional Planning, and he told me that one of his professors actually praised the Soviet system of urban planning.

    We will just not be able to achieve much long term as long as the US stays strong and stays imperialist. Although hopefully now with China to back us, we might be able to reproduce what happened in the mid 20th century, with many revolutions backed by the USSR. And China is much stronger economically than the USSR could ever hope to be, so maybe we could get further. Also now with the ageing crisis in the west, the global south might be able to finally rise. What's annoying is that said ageing crisis is not too bad in the US of all places (which just goes to show how it's very visibly the least developed country in the developed world).

    • @purplebluecrow5082

      As an American I can tell you the aging crisis isn’t as bad here because the religious right have literally 10 kids each, meanwhile working class Americans don’t have kids or only have one. I think if America and China went to war America would be substantially more fucked because of how many imports from there we get, and with nothing to buy the economy would halt and civil war would break out

    The assumption in this kind of schema is always that there is just one revolutionary party that can found the necessary network of organisations on a basis of axiomatic unity. I'm not sure that has ever been the case, even before the formal breaking of the 2nd International, let alone after the foundation of the 4th International and all the subsequent splits that have happened among those who identify themselves with Stalin, or Trotsky, or Mau, or Guevarra, or any type of New Lefty-Anarchist hybrids (*cough* Avakian *cough*), as well as from those who identify with the wrong originating Protestant Reformer (because Church History always applies).
    It's not that you're wrong at all about what needs to be done and how, it's just that the terrain in reality isn't that kind of a clean slate, and that in itself is something that needs a "what is to be done" thought out and done to it.

    You talk about very much when a revolution is materially possible or something like that. By possible do you mean how many people are class consciously ready for a revoution or do you mean something else? So do I have to analyze the people or what or who?

    • @ClassicalTraining
      @ClassicalTraining ปีที่แล้ว +3

      My friend, analysis like this is referenced in the video. More specifically in the part regarding mass line. The material conditions are something that requires a lot of analysis and reading theory as well as the situations in which revolutionary attempts took place. That also requires the unsuccessful ones.

    do any of you feel like you have a deeper understand of economics? Something I talk to people a lot about (i have a B.S. in econ) is the ideal end game of free market economics versus the reality and various other topics that are misunderstood and therefore misused in making arguments and I don't see the topics talked about very much. You hear about how free market leads to monopoly (the reality) but never about the ideal scenario (perfectly competitive markets) and its the perfectly competitive markets topic I drill home pretty hard how if that even if we approached a perfectly competitive market which they say is why capitalism good, it would inherently go against what capitalism stands for (no one earns any profits under perf comp mkt) and the free market supports the idea that billionaires should not exist. So if anything it's arguably a pro socialist idea (it isnt because in this scenario workers don't have any power still) but i think it's an interesting topic to talk about and it also shits on libertarians which is always a good bonus.

      He does a lot of deflecting and frames his arguments to attract viewers that want to see his targets "get owned" instead of making cogent arguments.
      In his video deboonkin' JT's Authoritarianism video, he poisons the well by framing his argument that JT is actually a secret fascist and argues exclusively from that position, while also arguing that JT, not Vaush himself, was poisoning the well in his original video. He also lacks any sense of nuance or context, and takes his arguments in a line-by-line breakdown where he spends 5 minutes on a 30 second statement just so when he moves onto the next one his audience has no frame of reference for what they just heard and how it relates to what comes before or after.
      I'm not sure if it's intentional or just subconsciously learned, because that kind of video argument style has been very popular for years and is used to great effect especially on the right.
      But yeah, dude's either a fucking moron or playing a fucking moron just to pander to his LCD base of fans that don't actually want to think.
