- This is ALL my camera footage of the aborted 2024 Taiwan KOM Challenge. For memories' sake, because it was all a blur. I will edit a Highlights video of our Trip to Taiwan for the KOM!
A group of us from Singapore signed up and spent some time together before the race. For most (but not all) of us, this would be our first time up Wuling Mountain -- and with such terrible weather no less!
The typhoon-wrought wind gusts and rain was really formidable. It also brought down landslides onto the KOM route. And so after 31min of riding, the race commissaire drove to the front and declared the race over.
The information was passed along to the back, and we all cycled onwards to a petrol kiosk before U-turning to cycle back to the start point -- where ginger tea, bread/cakes, and our drybags were waiting for us.
I was looking forward to pit myself against the 140km route with 4110m of climbing. That knowledge will have to come another day, another season.

Yes! The race was cancelled after 23km because of the weather but the experience was truly unique. And hopefully one-of-a-kind, no more repeats!

In the words of a rider who commented on the organiser's FB post: "That was one of the most dangerous neutralized race starts I’ve witnessed, riding in heavy rains and winds, in the dark (5am for god sake), with a road that clearly had lots of debris from the previous night’s wind and rains. I witnessed thirty or more cyclists on the side of the road within the first 10km having suffered from flats and other mechanicals (at least one broken frameset). I suffered a blow out at 11km after hitting pothole in the middle of the road. Again, rain, wind and in the dark. "
@min-moves geez...bad year for the taiwan kom. Good luck next year. You are very brave to do this race. Definitely not an easy route. Would love to create some content with if we ever get the chance.
Sorry for that😢 I was completing my last day from Jiaoxi/yilan to Taipei on thurs.. the wind n rain was really bad. When I back to Taipei, was thinking how the kom gonna run with such weather. Better luck next year.
