Hey man I just wanted to let you know that I just stumbled across the very car you reviewed for sale right now I just thought it was crazy bc I’m currently in the market for one again and I was looking at videos for it and yours caught my eye as well as the car itself online
Adore both cars but I'm an Impreza man (currently STi Type RA) having owned several of both during my years living in Japan. However, it does somewhat bother me that people stack an Evo up against a WRX; they should really be compared with an STi, and preferably a JDM car with equivalent power. An EVO is always going to be stacks better than a WRX in pretty much every area, as it should be.
The wrx owners cause that on themselves. Especially the guys with the FA motor wrx. They swear up and down that they can beat evos stock and then when they get their stage 1 ots tune they run away from any evo. Meanwhile a "stage 1" wrx in the real world still makes less power than any stock evo.🤣
Yea the standard seats are a letdown over the Recaros they got. I had one with the SST trans. And 390ish hp. Was perfectly reliable to 80k miles when i traded up.
I've missed too many of your videos, on a major catchup session, glad you've reviewed the Evo though. I had a VI gsr before my merc and have to say its probably the fastest b road blaster in the UK, i dont think much would stand with it running about 400 brake. Not sure about the X's though, ive read too often they dont handle as well as their predecessors? The seats do look a lot less supportive than the VI recaros!
Great videos BTW. Only just discovered these videos. You're one of the TH-camrs in that weird area where you'd obviously easily get a job on TV were it not for the date! In 2019 you can't get a TV job even if you're the obviously excellent LindyBeige, who by all rights shook have a permanent BBC presence and easily in the 90's would have become a national institution! Horrid histories would have been his baby. You'd have fit in perfectly on 5th Gear back in the day. Maybe have your own show, something akin to wheeler dealers. It's such a shame that TV has turned to shit. Anyway, love the videos and I'll post links wherever I'm able.
Have to disagree. I owned one. Actually, I owned two because the first SST box broke after only 10,000 miles. It was clunky and unpredictable. It may have been made by Borg Warner but it was made by them in China out of leftover pieces of chocolate.

Should a 2015 car really be classed as old school? Are you saying this simply because of the engines character? Is it genuinely laggy like something such as a YB turbo in a Cosworth or a Rover T-series turbo in the 2-4-6-8 hundred series cars? Had Mitsubishi not developed forced induction engines a bit beyond the old school by 2015 just in the course of building whatever else was in their line up at that time? Love the vid by the way (as always). Keep em coming.
In 2015 this was already a fairly old car. It drives like one too and that's not a bad thing. It does boost like an older car too - delivering boost higher in the rev range unlike modern cars which tend to give it up earlier
The T16 was not laggy at all. It had a tiny turbo that was on song very early in the rev range (boost threshold) that when you changed gear it was back on boost very quickly. The T3 turbo on the YBT was more laggy and had a higher boost threshold but wasn't that bad. Don't confuse lag with boost threshold.

What could other youtubers do to match this video ? First, try sticking more cams all over the car. Easy, having multiple POVs is a piece of cake (even though very few "London Boys" do). Second ? Well, sorry for being rude, but this is the difference between Jeremy Clarkson and Chris Harris (/May/Hammond): JC is a writer/author when CH is a driver/drifter: If you can't verbalize what it feels like to drive a car, then when your drift is done, you're out of steam. Anyway, summary of this long rant: JayEmm is a writer, and that's what matters.
Thankyou Also glad someone appreciated the multiple angles - I get so many comments complaining videos are "just my face" when clearly that is not the case!
I've never understood why so many people like impreza. Maybe because it naturally sounds like a fart can? I have a ton of road and track mags dating back to 2002, in the back they compare cars performance. The Mitsubishi was always faster then the sub, it doesn't matter which year mag I grab. Also one dirt test on TH-cam where evolution stomped the impreza because of of the yaw control I think it was
@@machidaman that's a good point I didn't think of that. I was talking North American cars sorry, road and track is american. Funny gran turismo reference. Gt1 is where I got my love for cars too, I've done 14,000 races in gt4 lol
Not sure what magazines you were reading but plenty of imprezas were very heavily regarded and beta evos in tests whilst not requiring servicing every 4k miles.
The boot was tiny because they put the battery and the screen wash bottle between the rear seat back and the boot, and then crammed a sub woofer to one side as well! Filling up that screen wash bottle and not spilling it all over the boot carpet took some doing! As for the question, if you could have the Subaru engine and 6 speed box in an Evo, that'd be perfect. The Subaru has so much more character and the gearbox felt unbreakable. Having said that, neither my STI 330S or my X FQ330 were reliable. In fact, they were shockingly unreliable for Japanese cars. Stick to Honda or Mazda!
If you're going to critique or discuss a vehicle it would probably be a good idea to do a bit more research and background on the vehicle and its other trims/features. Alot of what you said was off or wrong.

what a car is all I can say it needs a few mods and a map to come alive.
whoever says it’s not playful is lying it’s an incredible chassis, it’s a heavy car that hides its weight like a magic trick, fit a nice big rear arb and turn the assists off and tell me another car that dances like a 10 this car was too far ahead of its time for its own good the recognition will come and values will rocket in these coming years 5 speed for me personally is the car to have.
it was and still is the best car of that era it was never a GTR and lost its recognition due to the R35 being launched at this time which was a incredible car on a super car slaying level . Yaris GR is years later and is getting the recognition it deserves the X did not sadly but I think it will .
My brother has a red one with that aero package and I have a grey one w/o the aero kit. I swapped in Recaro seats in place of the crummy and ass-pain Lancer seats.
I have a WRX and i love it, i would also love to park one of these next to it on my drive.
Agreed! Evo > sti. I. Can't get enough jdm, even while be stationed here in Japan!!!
Evo all damn day
Really great cars for what they are .
Not driven the Evo X but much preferred the Evo 9 over the WRX STI.
Mitsubishi all day ❤️
2019 still talking about evo x. 👍
Imho evo x was the precursor to modern euro awd hot hatch stuff. Dual clutch, moderate turbo on a 2L 4cyl
Coming from an Sri, Evo 9 MR all the way.
You really need to get into a uk FQ model to appreciate the later evos
Good fun cars, I have an old imported Evo 4 and it's great for UK roads. Those seats don't look good in the X! Earlier ones are pretty decent
They got better and better up to the 6. Peaking with the now insanely desirable, almost perfect Tommy Makinen edition.
They got worse after that.
@@ThunderChunky101 the TM was an evo6 ;)
Mitsubishi is working on a new Evo! News got out just today, it will be related to the Megane RS apparently.
So it'll be a Mitsubishi A45 AMG?
No its not. They're focussing on electrification and their business model
I prefer the color octane blue or white , my fav version is the FQ400 evo
Great car. Thumbs up.
They removed the Recaro seats in the U.S. Market only. In Canada and the rest if the world all Evo's have the Recaro seats in GSR, MR and FE
No contest the EVO 5 6 and the 9 was good as well .
Such a pretty car 😍
Yea the standard seats are a letdown over the Recaros they got. I had one with the SST trans. And 390ish hp. Was perfectly reliable to 80k miles when i traded up.
Tradded up? Impossible lol jk
2012 pearl blue gtr black edition.. and an aw11 mr2 :)
@@JimCraig_riced Thats my next car but I wont be getting rid of the evo haha

I've missed too many of your videos, on a major catchup session, glad you've reviewed the Evo though. I had a VI gsr before my merc and have to say its probably the fastest b road blaster in the UK, i dont think much would stand with it running about 400 brake. Not sure about the X's though, ive read too often they dont handle as well as their predecessors? The seats do look a lot less supportive than the VI recaros!
Gran turismo has a lot to answer for
Evo anyday unless it's a 22b we're talking but then even then I'd go for the Evo TME instead.
Thank you for going to America in a shirt made from old jeans pockets! I don't mind the yanks thinking we're nuts 😆😆 thanks for the video.
Evo no question
Love my 2011 MR.👍👍👍
Need the recaro seats bro
The fq440 is a sst box
I know
What version did the evo x have? Was there an se or are they all the same?
Much appreciated
Looks like a transverse engine? I expected longitudinal with a centre diff like the subarus?
When has an evo ever had longitudinal?
it have a center diff. But the engine is transveral.
The evo 5 and 6 are clearly the high point of the range
Yall got finessed with the final edition on the US market
The dsg 6 speed is underrated ....Matt Farah liked it a lot
It's awesome I got one
Have to disagree. I owned one. Actually, I owned two because the first SST box broke after only 10,000 miles. It was clunky and unpredictable. It may have been made by Borg Warner but it was made by them in China out of leftover pieces of chocolate.
@@AliTaylor777 they are made by getrag

I've been considering an Evo X as a replacement for my Golf R... JM, what are your views in comparing the two? Keep in mind I would need to go for the auto box (thanks to my smashed up left leg) so I know it may be hard to judge fairly...
I'd stay with your Golf in your case
Stay with vw. The mitsu autobox isnt as capable stock vs stock
I`d get rid of the Golf its a disaster waiting to happen, like all products made by the VW group.
@@kris8742
So, you're either a troll trying to get a rise or someone that doesn't stay current with the automotive world.
stick with the Golf, DSG is just way too good.
If you had managed to slip into an older year you would be sitting in some decent recaros like mine
😍
I own one and a GTR R35 at the same time.My Evo X was tuned to 400 bhp with a FQ 400 rego plate. My GTR killed it on a track day.Clalk and cheese.Loved them both, for different reasons.
Cosmetically completely disagree. This is my favourite looking generation and look best in black 😈
Thankyou
Also glad someone appreciated the multiple angles - I get so many comments complaining videos are "just my face" when clearly that is not the case!
I wish Mitsubishi still made the evo..
Be glad they don't, they'd only of made it into an SUV of sorts ..
Alex Baker oh yeah I remember that rumour in the car mags. Thank god they didn't
They're not in a position to do so. They need to make money first, which Evo's don't lol
Tom Richards Car and Driver confirmed that a new sedan/hatchback evo will be made with awd and a Renault engine
@@carhecz4200 not yet confirmed. Just speculation from a "Reliable Japanese Source".
I've never understood why so many people like impreza. Maybe because it naturally sounds like a fart can? I have a ton of road and track mags dating back to 2002, in the back they compare cars performance. The Mitsubishi was always faster then the sub, it doesn't matter which year mag I grab. Also one dirt test on TH-cam where evolution stomped the impreza because of of the yaw control I think it was
Not so for JDM cars though. The UK spec cars I agree were never quite up to the job.

If Mitsubishi gonna bring back the Evo line might as well bring back the regular Lancer line
Getting tired of the Mirage line up
1 to 9 were Evo's , 10 a bit bloated and refined
Jonathan Stringer based on a different chassis to the previous 9 cars, that's why.
The company that made evos called it an evo. Your point is invalid.

Hahaha... but you're right: That is one piece of atrocious looking cloth! :-D
Not the Mazda MPS though. They break as well.
Well, Toyota Corolla, Camry is reliable. If s that’s your only concern.
@mhffc : NSX? And the S2000 might not be as quick but it was leagues more fun.
@@tkangwei I'd rather own a car that broke down every time there was a Tuesday in the week than own a Camry.
Subaru engine would be a downgrade. Only the transmission is supposed to be better. But since theres alot less high hp subarus then evos who knows.
If you're going to critique or discuss a vehicle it would probably be a good idea to do a bit more research and background on the vehicle and its other trims/features. Alot of what you said was off or wrong.
Please give me some examples and I will correct it in future Evo X videos
At least after this review of a lady's car you didn't have to be wary of the huge blue pick up coming out to play 😂

Wtf is going on with the seats???? Earlier models had recaros
Wonder why that one has those terrible seats. Normally they come with nice Recaros.

There was blue white red and grey
Evo
sounds like a hoover
Why did the owner put that little spoiler on the big spoiler. That's some dumb shit.
evo
Worst seats I have ever seen in a Final Edition. Must be a regional thing, as the Canadian Evo X Final Edition had leather and suede Recaros.
the worse evo x verion you could of got in normal GSR would of been better or get it a british GSR fq400 much better everything
The upgrade any 30s guy would do after owning a wrx-sti converted bug eye shit car.
Sure, it doesnt make as much power as your subie friends, but its definitely slightly less in the garage than your friends let me tell you that much!
This is the car that your dads would see speeding on the street and think its just another corolla type, whilst you would expect it being some bright-eyed whiteboy who still thinks evo just means a turbo and a simple AWD system and that's spoiled by his parents with this- ah oh this is a real evo.
My cousin owned an evo, he was I think 22 when he realized his turbod EG civic wasnt very fast on the highway. So he leased a first year evo 10. He ended up giving up the lease to someone else who didnt know the 450+hps he put into the car also broke the clutch :/ that said, my cousin was laughing his ass off.
I'll come with more monologues :)

And who starts a comment with "that moment when..."?
In 2019?! 😂
Jesus.
The final edition in USA is shit, without recaros is not an evo and the owner of that car clearly has no idea about mods. That air intake is taking only hot as its not properly covered. The performance is affected.
Japanese made is not equal to JDM
I know, I did address that in another video
