Truly a mechanical work of art. The workmanship and fitting that went into casting, machining and assembling these old engines doesn't exist anymore.

To be fair, a modern heavy machine shop could easily manufacture a reproduction of one of these engines. However they'd make heavy use of CNC machinery to do it, they wouldn't be lathing the parts manually.

Of course it still exists, any tool & die maker could easily surpasses what they were able to do during the heyday of steam power. And casting any engine block from the smallest automotive engine to 100k +++++ HP ships engines would be infinitely harder than what these engines took. I personally know of at least 3 people that given the correct size of manually operated machine tools there's not a part on these they couldn't machine as well or better for workmanship. Compared to today the tolerances on these engines were pretty loose. With a lot tighter tolerances there's far less need for that hand fitting. But hand filing or even scraping to a precision fit isn't a lost art yet.

The flywheels did have belts when they were being used to power other things but this appears to only be for demonstration.

The red tubes appear to be coal stokers, unless they are blowing powdered coal.
      Hope someone can answer this.

A voice over describing the mechanisms and what they do would be appreciated. Same for all the small engines at the end.
