Great video... great DIY! The one you bought is great... but the one you made is better. Those colors are wonderful on you and the drape is extra nice. I've always loved caftans... even when I was young (I remember getting one for my 16th birthday) and I don't care if I look like a schlep! I had never seen that Ornella site... now a devil on my shoulder is poking me saying "buy one now!" while an angel on the other side is singing "make it... you know you'll love doing it"

Great caftan, Michelle!! As usual, I LOVE your choice of colors. When my kids were babies/toddlers, I made at least 5 caftans from the same pattern and wore them constantly. I have never enjoyed shorts - I am a maxi dress/maxi skirt/pants girl in the Summer. I agree with you that you can make a caftan as casual or elegant as you choose. Let’s hope they’re back in style forever…..

Well - I DID take the measurements from the store bought one except for the length - because I "rounded" the yardage I ended up making it too long. I keep tripping on it LOL! I need to wack a couple of inches off. Other than that - I do love the fit!! Thanks so much for the kind words 😊💕
Beautiful fabric and beautiful results that look so good on you! I live near Phoenixville, PA, and didn't realize Mrs. Roper was big there 😄. I had a short caftan years ago made from two thick terrycloth towels stitched together - was supposed to be a beach coverup but was more like being suffocated by two thick, heavy wet towels...well, it was a good idea, I guess...
I lived in Blue Bell before I moved down to FL - my hubby and I went to Phoenixville all the time - such a cute town. I've thought about making a coverup out of towels but was worried about that - so thanks for letting me know!
@@MichelleSewsAgain A nice, thick, heavyweight beach towel is better for lying on than wearing, in my experience 😄! Probably a lightweight terrycloth sold by the yard wouldn't be so heavy to wear.
😅 I know Mrs. Roper very well. If you know you know. I live in New England where it doesn't get real hot very often. I had a caftan that I would only drag out during a heatwave. I called it a mumu. I agree that they so comfortable and breezy to wear. Both of your caftans look great. It's ever so satisfying to copy a well-fitting ready to wear garment. I never could find a t-shirt pattern that fit me properly. So I finally made my own from a t-shirt in my closet that I really liked. Now every time I need a new t-shirt. I just whip out my own pattern and it fits perfect every time.

Just in time! Last year I wanted to dress as Mrs Roper for Halloween but never followed through because cause we were out of town. So making one to wear for Halloween and swanning around the house.

I’m confused, that you’re using 18 1/2 “ for the width of folded panel. Wouldn’t that be 37” for the front of the caftan, and 37” for the back panel?
Yes, that's correct. Apologies - I thought I explained that! With the hemmed edges it comes out to around 36" for each finished panel.
