@@UsernameKate I was going to suggest 2nd gear. Also I leave it in neutral get some speed up then throw it in gear. The clutch dragging takes so much of your speed when bumping
@@UsernameKate it works on any geared bike or car its just a better gear for bump starting especially if your on your own and struggling to find a massive hill haha
She wee and a coke bottle inside the tent would solve your problem and as for you heated gear plug it in but turn it all off half hour before you stop for fuel or camp then it will have time to recharge the battery . Or take one of those little jump start packs, I always carry one
The things you put yourself through to make these winter vlogs, you can’t rely on the rescue people Kate, they left me on the side of a dual carriageway for six hours in the freezing cold. Take care Katie, and thanks for the work you do to entertain us.
Kate, well done, you've done great getting out there when far too many can't even tie their own shoelaces these days! Top Work. Just a few points that millions of people will also tell you, probably: 1. Bump start in 2nd gear. 2. Get a jump starter block and practice using it before you need to - they do work, mine has! 3. Try some proper camping food that you only need to bung hot water into. It is miles easier if you get stranded in the dark. (And if you know you will arrive in the dark, on the way, ask the nice person in the services to fill your flask with hot water - nothing to do but add to the grub when you get there!). I look forward to seeing your next exploits!
When noting goes to plan, you know it is going right, it means the challenge is on and the adventure starts, planing is for people that are afraid of the unknown, and up right BORING. just be ready to deal. have a good one.
That was mint ! Can’t beat a bit of 125cc adventure and drama, especially in the middle of winter. Bear Grylls would have been happy to survive that one 😂. Top watch, thank you Kate. 👍
As somebody who is new to motorbike camping one of the best tips I got from this vid is distancing yourself from a road if your hoping for a decent night sleep, think you did amazingly and glad you got the bike restarted. Great vid thanks
Hi Kate With it only being a small bike Its Easier to run with the bike then jump on it side sadle then let the clutch out with it in 2 gear Always worked for me Love your blogs Your honestly makes it
Glad you succeeded with getting the bike going Kate. The things you do to entertain us, we do appreciate and enjoy it! It does sound perfect going on a 2 wheeled camping road trip It's just a shame about the wind
I'm not convinced the stator on small displacement Sinnis puts out that much wattage. It'll be fine for running the bike's equipment (assuming the battery's in good nick) but heated gear takes a lot of juice. If a typical lead acid 12v DC battery has been fully flattened, it's normally junk. Plenty of videos on youtube on how to 'rejuvenate a dead battery' but in my experience it won't hold a charge...on a motorcycle, it's not worth messing about. buy a new one.
Glad you got back okay 😊. The battery was very low when you were setting off wasn't it hence the poor starting. Next time you're going on a trip away, just connect up to an optimate charger the night before then you always start with a full battery. And for piece of mind join a breakdown service so if the worse comes to the worse you can get rescued without calling Mike 😀
Well done, I'd not be brave enough to wild camp in winter, especially not in Scotland! 😀 Glad that you got the bike started... and good plan keeping the tent pitched, waiting for the recovery can take hours like you say! 🙂
Awesome video! My girlfriend always , always, packs a wide mouth Gatorade bottle and baby wipes for just such an emergency. Just remember to wash thoroughly to protect against a UTI. Best!
2nd gear for push starts! Plus, I’ve had this issue before with using heated kit preventing the recharge. I’d recommend plugging it in and keeping warm and then unplug 20 mins or so before you know you’ll have to stop. That should be enough to put enough juice to start it again after a brief stop.
The reason I love you’re videos other than you’re a joy they conjure up my memories The wee story and the female pitfalls of going outdoors had me laughing recalling camping memories. One time my wife said I think there’s someone outside the tent I said it’s just wind but knew it was a bear (I didn’t want her to worry) in the morning our friends said did you hear the bear last night, she just gave me a look.

Just caught up on this video. Well done for getting it going again, bump starting any bike is difficult. It actually looks like you had fun on that little bike. Much enjoyed thanks 😊
How times have changed. Never had "heated gear" and always had breakdown cover. Thanks for taking me back to the location where 45 years ago I stayed with the girlfriends family and was taught how to sail. I tour on a bicycle at the moment.
camping shops sell pee bottles which can be useful lol, with a luggage strap being pull to one side it's always going to move the luggage that way so best to use straps and bungees on both sides so everything is equal (take a couple of spares too just in case of breakages)
Another great vid. Thanks Kate, you've got a good head on your shoulders. Sorry I laughed when you were pushing the Suzuki uphill with all the huffs and puffs. Been there done that.
Well done Kate enjoyed that very brave on your own but you need a wee bottle so you can do it in the tent without the worry of flashing your lady bits your heated gear probably draws more power than that little bike makes to save you having to bump start the bike get a jump starter pack you can still use as a power bank if you have too you also should learn the way to bump start run with the bike in gear and jump on side saddle let the clutch out when your arse hits the seat a life saver the jump pack much safer way I would fit an led daytime running light and fit a switch so you can isolate the headlight and send the power to you heated gear or get a proper bike for touring x
Well done Kate, you overcame all the obstacles. You highlighted the problems that one can run into when travelling solo. You were very brave , (upgrade the battery on that sinnis)
Great trip Kate shame about the flat battery heated gear is a godsend but not good on small bikes but hey we live and learn that sinnis looks a cracking little bike for the money hope you and mike have a few camping trips planed for this year 👍👍 ride safe and take care
Booster packs are small enough and cheap enough these days, quick and easy to use, and way safer than trying to bump a bike with luggage on board money well spent if you must use the heated gear continuously, no 125 will put out enough spare electricity to handle that sort of load. a lesson I earned with my kiess heated gloves 😜
Good on ye Kate, you over came all adversities and the mission was a success. You’ll be better prepared with all the information you can glean off the comments for the next camping adventure Stay safe out there and look forward to the next one.
Well done ,it's a pity the site wasn't open, me and my missus stayed there a couple of years ago on one of our trips up there it's a nice site and you can walk under that old bridge along the edge of the loch. Good on you doing it on a 125 👍
Well done on pushing the bike uphill. 💪🏼ride save and enjoy. I traveled on a yamaha tw200 scrambler 800kms, was fun all the way. 320kms trip on my honda xr125 scrambler alot of fun. Now going on a fishing trip in my kawasaki vulcan classic 900 cruiser. God bless
Well done for sticking it out, some folk wuldnhave called a recovery and bailed. Have a search for a 'wag bag' we use them with the kids and climbing when out in the wilds, helps with the toilet issues.
I felt your pain Kate. I had a flat battery on my R75/7 many years ago, and bump starting an ex police 750 boxer with luggage on is a challenge I don't want to repeat. Shame you didn't manage to camp somewhere a bit more remote and away from the road, but that's what adventures are all about, you never know what you are going to get. Looking forward to your next trip, the 50cc trip to Cornwall. LOL.
One more comment from an old guy.. 74!!! Yes use 2nd gear bump start and you are a good candidate for a small jump start battery pack.. I have a boost and is strong enough to start a diesel truck.. Also had usb plugs and a 12v socket.. I have just discovered your channel and will be following your adventures..I just checked and you can buy a high output stator and I would seriously think about getting a voltage/amp gauge to see if you are discharging.. If your battery is flat and you are drawing on the stator only it could burn up and you would be stranded..Also, I bought my wife a women’s pee funnel on Amazon that allows her to wee into a bottle..
Great effort...nice mini adventure!! I remember being on a long journey, busting for a wee and finding the zip on my one piece rain suit was stuck 😳🙈!! Cheers, Steve
great run Kate loved it. but when bump starting a bike you will find it easier to go in 2nd or even 3. but 1 the back wheel will probably lock on you. or just carry a jump starter. they make some great 1s small and powerful. I'm hopping to do a Scotland run in summer lol.
Pity the weather wasn't as good on the way up. That part of southern Scotland is quite pretty. You were actually pretty close to where I was born if you had continued on the A 713 you would have evetually reached Ayr. Unfortunately there's no plaque commemorating that momentous event 🤣🤣🤣🤣
the luxury of lightweight bikes, so long as it isn't mechanical like the stator/regulator or engine. sidestand switch, they are very easily bump started. Our heated gear like to mess with our bikes, my Macna heated clothing kept blowing my fuse today through the DIN on the BMW, so much for a bike specific cable, opted for the one that goes directly off my battery now that should avoid the blown fuse. Always carry a small jump pack now as well. JERSEY ICECREAM the best, especially on your doorstep lol a long with yoghurt and milk....
good upload kate and yeh those feelings someones outside yr tent is common till u get get used to it, norm its wind trees and animals like foxes and h hogs x
I always kept it out of gear then pushed it till good speed then slammed in to gear let clutch out and hey presto …. That was on my 125 RD twin 40 years ago…couldn’t push my s1000R now…it would kill me pushing it …enjoyed the vid kate again.
Buy yourself a battery bank Kate, they are small and compact will jump start your donkey and even charge all your mobile devices. Small motorbike batteries running electric heaters is a big ask the battery bank will save you. The start of the trip was a good time to look into the flat battery, probably should have ascertain it’s condition before setting off
Have you seen those really small jump start batteries you can get, might be worth having one in your kit?! Well done, you're a brave woman doing that on your own! 😊👍
Aww Kate, Jeezo you were maybe an hour from my house this time! I could probably have fitted that wee bike in the back of my Volvo...or just loaned you the use of its battery and jump leads.
Shame you didn't have a great sleep. Any time I go wild camping, especially solo, , it's definitely earplugs to keep the nature noises out my head. Also, even as a bloke I take a thing called a "Travel John" to save having to get up and go out the tent during the night. Supposedly work for ladies too.
Great video. Pity it didn’t turn out better for you. However, you have just reinforced my loathing of camping. I would rather sleep in a haunted house.😂
Wow Kate, that was such a little bike! Why didn’t it start when you were leaving home? I’d have been suspicious of it having a problem before you left even. Here’s some advice if you have to bump/push start a bike again. Don’t use 1st gear, use at least second or even third gear instead. There is a couple reasons for this, when you use a higher gear it will turn the engine over faster and easier than first gear. You’ll have better success.
Thanks for sharing. Maybe worth looking at compact lithium jump starters...I borrowed one when in need...small enough to stick under my seat (not always an option) or maybe in luggage or backpack etc.
I've got a Honda Fireblade that i bought new that has refused to start on anything other than a full battery pretty much since the day i bought it. It absolutely does not start from a bump either. At least you've got that option. (what happens when they design a bike with a battery bay the size of a postage stamp)
The Problem with bump starting fuel injected bikes is you need a strong batter to inject the fuel .. As mentioned below 2nd gear might work better .. You need to pull the clutch in quick as it fires .. as you may be going to slow and lug the engine into stalling ..
2nd gear is the one for bump starts on small hills and small run ups maaaate, stops the wheel locking up and turns the engine over easier 👊🏻👍🏻
I just thought that was on big bikes and smaller whippersnappers it was best to use first. Probably dreamt it one day 🤣
@@UsernameKate I was going to suggest 2nd gear. Also I leave it in neutral get some speed up then throw it in gear. The clutch dragging takes so much of your speed when bumping
@@UsernameKate it works on any geared bike or car its just a better gear for bump starting especially if your on your own and struggling to find a massive hill haha
2nd gear is a good shout. It turns the engine over more quickly and makes it more likely to fire up.
For sure 2nd gear and roll down the hill in neutral and only stick in gear just before you bump it. Definitely makes it easier.
She wee and a coke bottle inside the tent would solve your problem and as for you heated gear plug it in but turn it all off half hour before you stop for fuel or camp then it will have time to recharge the battery . Or take one of those little jump start packs, I always carry one

Love watching your Channel Kate. Love your sense of humor and how straight up you are. 🤣 🤣
Keep up the good work
Watching from NZ 🇳🇿
Good for you ! Making memories on your own… Keep it up. I ended up purchasing the R1800 after watching your test vid. Please, be safe..
I loved this vid, so real and down to earth, go Kate 👍
💪💪never give up!
Never!!
Since you are a celebrity you can say now” I m a celebrity get me out of here 😃 very nice vlog Kate you are a real trooper 👍👍🇳🇱
the luxury of lightweight bikes, so long as it isn't mechanical like the stator/regulator or engine. sidestand switch, they are very easily bump started.
Excellent video, admire your resilience! Subscribed
Thanks Martin! Appreciate you!
Glad you made it home safe.
Maybe invest in a she-wee if you go wild camping again.
Hope Mike liked his tea 🤣🤣
2nd this, my wife and daughter find this a god send when we camp 🏕 🙌 can't beat a shewee and a bottle
good upload kate and yeh those feelings someones outside yr tent is common till u get get used to it, norm its wind trees and animals like foxes and h hogs x
The start of the trip was a good time to look into the flat battery, probably should have ascertain it’s condition before setting off
Looks a bit lonely I do like a safe place to camp, think I spotted you at the Dragon rally which I did on my Royal Enfield 500 classic.
Have you seen those really small jump start batteries you can get, might be worth having one in your kit?!
Well done, you're a brave woman doing that on your own! 😊👍
Always 2 nd well done on the determination though 😂 it’s a nightmare when you have to bump them
Kudos to you Kate. Firstly for such a long trip on that bike. Oh how I wish you took the Mighty GS :)
Fair play Kate! What a trooper 👏🏻👏🏻 some quality lines here 😂 #bigdog
Phew it was a bit worrying for a moment there, but all's well that ends well and you had an adventure and got back safe Hurrah! :>)
Great video. Careful with the heavy breathing…. People would pay good money to listen to that all day 😀
Hi
Glad you got her started. What a phaff. Ride safe.
Love the accent...be safe outside there🙏🏻
Thanks dude! 😊
You could try a ‘SheWee’. But do practice with it. You’ll be able to whip it out like the lads in no time! 😇
The Problem with bump starting fuel injected bikes is you need a strong batter to inject the fuel .. As mentioned below 2nd gear might work better .. You need to pull the clutch in quick as it fires .. as you may be going to slow and lug the engine into stalling ..
I just liked & subscribed to you after you push started your motorcycle.. I'll be watching. Ur new friend ........
Thanks you legend :)
