i did my 1st dragon rally in 1966 .in those days the weather was always very cold ,sometimes very windy and usually very wet. as my son grew up we went one year possibly 1989 and it was really thick snow .i rode his bike a kawasaki gpz 550 with him on tha back . overnight the temperature was minus 11 degrees c . water bottle froze solid inside our little tent . didnt sleep a wink as i was more concerned about him . carbs on the bike iced up and it kept dying on us . snow plough behind us at one time for a few miles . i am now 74 in three weeks time and dont like the cold , but still riding .enjoy riding while you can .keep safe . best wishes .my wife still rides her vespa she will be 72 last day of june. we have ridden all our lives nearly so its second nature to us .
Dragon Rally started in 1962 and at 11 minutes on your Vlog the gentleman with the beard is our President Donny who helped organise the first rally 60 odd years ago !
Did the Dragon in 1974 on a little Honda CB250, riding from the South-east. It was one of the wettest ever, and the site ended up knee-deep in mud. It was impossible to ride the bikes in; we had to leave them all in the fire-break road outside, and wade in with all the gear. It blew and rained all night. In the morning, when I got back to the bike, the rear tyre was flat! There was no hope of getting the wheel out in those conditions, so I used a tyre repair aerosol, which only lasted until I got back to Oxford, where I took the wheel out and patched the tube. I still have the badge, and it's something I'm still proud of. Kudos to you for doing it.
Kate you are one crazy lady lol watching you do those overtakes on the little Sinnis was nearly as exciting as watching John McGuinness and Michael Dunlop scrapping on the IOM lol. Good work.
I'm going with "woof" because I'm a dog. This was my first Dragon Rally and my Dad's 2nd. His first one was mildly terrifying 😂😂😂😂 but it was nice not to get my feet muddy. Who knows what next year will be like in a muddy swamp somewhere not on Anglesey. Anyway, great video and great to meet you all 😃
On behalf of CMCC thank you fir attending Top Tip for lead rider leave indicator on for a safe pass as they have a clear view of what is up front if not safe turn it off ...
That’s asking for trouble, the majority of riders seem to forget to turn their indicators off and the rest probably have top of the range bikes with auto cancelling.
I can't believe you binned the £20 panniers! Lol. I did the same with the ones I bought after one camp out. 🤣. The Dragon looks ok in decent weather, and a good crack. I'm glad you enjoyed it after the loch Ken farce. You keep enjoying yourself Kate. 👍🏍.
Last years Dragon was so cold and wet. The capping was about 3" lower than the level of the lake next to it. Think I got hypothermia on the way home, really not good so we decided not to go this year, but by all accounts it was fine this year
Went to my first and only Dragon Rally a few years ago. Rained all the way there, then awoke in the tent the next morning to find 2 inches of snow on the ground. Speaking to other bikers, that's fairly normal for the Dragon, so the biking gods were looking after you.
OK, name change needed from *Usernamekate* to *_USERNAMECAKE_* , excellent vid and I'm almost tempted to turn up at the DragonRally but I don't think work will let me, that and the wife
I used to love going to bike rallies . The snakes, the spiders and all sorts of insects. Ride for two days through searing heat to get a badge and a sticker, turn around and ride home.
The Dragon is the best rally ever. Nobody with an attitude, but you got off seriously lightly with the weather. Its not bikers, its a bunch of lunatics with access to a bike and a tent! Storm Ciara was a particularly favourite, when I slept in a pond, the tent ended up in a tree during packing, then the battery was flat on the bike. If my mates weren't with me, I'm body would still be in a Welsh field!
That looked a really fun time, 👍👍 for the BSA. No reenactment of the Blazing Saddles camp fire scene? Chile sounds about right for dinner tonight in this unseasonably cold Califronia weather.
Nice views, dog, good food and cake in the morning? 10/10 content. Glad to see a return of Username Cake too, I was worried when you said cake for breakfast wasn’t on.
The battery didn't like the last camping trip but was happy to go on this one ... quite a mystery. Did you have the smallest bike there? Looked good and no brand shaming. Always asked if your filming Kate! Today was the first day that was not below zero F. Stay warm, dry and have a good week ahead.
Much more civilized than your last camp! I was thinking "Glutton for Punishment" at the exact moment you said it lol. The chilli looked delicious and my "Tea" was over an hour away :>( Nice overtakes btw - reminded me of my CB125 days. :>)
Blimey, I remember doing the Dragon Rally way back in the mid '70s. Not many of the popular ralies from back then are still going, I wager. I'm pretty sure I still have my rally badge knocking around somewhere.
@@UsernameKate Sad story, wore it once and got knocked off my bike by an elderly chap who didn't see me last week. So didn't have time to get a proper feel. It's a bit damaged so will have to get a new one. I love shoei though, have the NXR and GT-AIR 2.
Not been, however I can probably be excused because it was the start of covid when I brought my first bike for 37 years and I was working in Europe. I have managed to get to two ABR festivals and booked up again for 2023, cannot wait although the missus will bring the car too ( I might still come on the speedmaster chrome - my latest adventure bike 😂) so if she cannot get comfy in the tent it is seats back in the car 😂
I once did the drunken dragon rally in 1999, when it was based on the mumbles above Swansea. I stupidly didn’t have a sleeping mat and was so cold on the first night it was untrue! Brought a sleeping mat on Saturday and slept so much better!
if you think that bike revving was annoying, should camp at Le Man motogp Grand Vert, you won't sleep from Wednesday night until you get home Monday, as they redline the bikes all night with many blown engines, I'm not talking about one or two bikes, hundreds all through the day and night. Never camping there again lol
Enjoyed watching this very much thank you. I did the dragon in 1966 travelling from Kent. Some of the worst wind and rain I've ever ridden in. Still got the badge and loads of memories, and still riding, although a bit slower than I used to.
hiya kate hope your doing good , just a wee thing to avoid having to bump start any bike ever again , check out the tiny "anti gravity sport jump starter " is the size of a phone i kid you not and it will start any bike multiple times , could be a handy wee thing , ps one of the best rallys in the uk is storming the castle in September , defo worth checking that one out , if we bump into each other there cider is on me , be luck x

Brilliant story! Loved my gpz 550 though l kept blowing the head gasket as l was a thrape artist back then!

haha you gotta do what you gotta do :P
Old bike camping trick - put a thin board in your pannier as the top layer - it's a handy base for you to set up cooking / hot water makings.
That look on your face when she mentioned the whisky was priceless. One of the funniest things my wife and I have seen on you tube 🤣🤣🤣👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I didn't expect treats!!
il have to try the dragon rally I go to all mag events into the vally, stormin the castle, farmyard party,Yorkshire pudding rally great vlog💕
125cc white van overtake quality 🤣. Looked better time for you than Scotland run. No bump starts 🤣. Chilli looked 😋😋😋. Glad you enjoyed it 👍🏍👍

Hi, thanks for posting. I did the Dragon Rally in 1962 and 1963. Heavy snow on both occasions but didn't give it a second thought, must have been mad!
Absolute BADASS!

Happy that you enjoyed our rally Kate - come again next year (you were blessed with great weather and solid ground this year - which is rare)
Im subscribe you

Nice to see the Dragon still going went to a number of these in the early sixties but it was usually snowing.

@usernameKate . Thanks for liking my BSA . Made my day.
Loved this vlog as I usually do. So pleased the weather and venue was kind to you all, the Dragon Rally can be grim with the weather. 😊👍🏍
I think I prefer this type of camping to snow and rain and misery camping! 😀
Great vid Kate 🙂
I packed up in a T shirt. It really wasn’t the seasonal norm! All very pleasant . 😎
Some good looking lads @10:57
@Barber biker
😅
Good video Kate 👍
I'd love to go camping with your friends and get a bowl of that testosterone chili with cheese!!! lol!! Looks like you guys had a good time! Sláinte!
Hi Kate, I live not far from Conwy (originally from Anglesey). that road you have taken from Conwy to Betws y Coed is one of my favourite roads.
Love ya videos and vlogs keep them up
Wales in February!. Hard core motorcyclers, Respect!
Love this video! Would like to give dragon valley a go next year, I didn’t know a thing existed 😊
i need your magic finger click, tent down and bike loaded just like that.... you also need a sticker on your clocks saying zip...
Great video Kate. All the way to Anglesey from Bolton. ..and on the Sinnis 👍😄
Loving this vlog kate

Wow Kate that chilli looks amazing
That looked like a great event. 👍
Another great vid. On ya Kate.

Great you are on smaller cc. I am older so cannot move or pick up big bikes! Mine's a BMW 310R. Suits me fine. 😀
Never done the Dragon Rally - looks fun. But, that chilli tho!? Wowawoowah!
Wow wow wow it was GORGEOUS.
It’s great you are doing the single camping, need more 😀
Similar to our bike rally's in SA , just we have better weather ! Did'nt you used to have an SV650 ?

@@UsernameKate "Famous or well known, typically for some bad quality or deed" - How does that relate to the Elephant Rally exactly?! 😂😂😂

Hi Kate...just caught this video. Where can I get a UsernameKate sticker. ?
when i went we woke up in the snow there was no band just a tent to talk in no music just a bage a whisky and a marsbar
You really need to get yourself along to The Farmyard Party in Helmsley this year you'll see a true rally there 😉
I'll have to look into it!
Just goes to show, you don’t need big cc to have fun… great set of vids these
i did the dragon rally in the middle of snowdon once, nearly froze to death 🤣
