Great vid, nicely done! Wise decision to bail. Been in the San Juan’s several times, amazi no how fast it can go from nice and sunny to crazy rain, right? Thanks for sharing👍
I've always backpacked a little east from here in the San Juan... This area looks awesome... I may try your route in a solo trip. Thanks for sharing...
Hi im a tourist from mexico , I was today at the summit of buffalo mountain when I felt a static charge, there were goats and they fet it to because they made an strange movement while I was feeling the charge , like 2 seconds after i saw the flash and inmediatly heard a loud noise, me and the goats started going down inmediatly, but I dont understand how i felt the sttic charge and inmediatly heard the thunder without being striked by it, it was raining at the moment and it started hailing after the strike
Scary to be out there in the thunderstorm. I would have probably turned back too knowing there was another one coming in - don't fuck with lightning is my motto in that situation 😆 Still hiked in some beautiful scenery though
came here from Reddit - great video! My reactions and thoughts watching this, as a Coloradan backpacker myself: the wildflowers seem to be peaking in Silverton - when was this trip? How committed were you to wearing a long sleeve layer instead of sunscreening? Absolutely loved the transition from "we're going to bushwack" to finding yourself in the middle of those waist high bushes that are so hard to push out of the way.
Thanks! This was late July of 2021, we just happened to hit a really bad weather window. I believe the long sleeve was because it was pretty cold that morning due to some rain the day before.
We started from Silverton on cr #33, then picked up the whitehead trail #674 about 4 miles in which is hard to follow in places and involves about a mile of bushwhacking. Then we followed it up to Verde lake and intercepted the ct/cdt. Dude to the weather we bailed at cr #3 at canby mountain but had planned to follow it all the way to camp trail #476. The total route was around 40 miles. I would recommend going earlier in the summer to avoid the afternoon storms which can get extremely bad in this area. Hope this helps!
You guys should stay out of the wilderness. You are not man enough to see this rare beauty. I've done 18 trips into the Wyoming Wilderness. Colorado is easy country. Stay home boys.
I was 16. The wilderness happens to be for everyone. 18 is not a lot of trips and wyoming has its ups and downs, same as Colorado. Keep getting out there though! Maybe one day you'll be as experienced as you think you are.
Shut up Alan. You don’t own the wilderness pal. Your probably complaining about him going in the wilderness because your homeless and are bothered about people disturbing your peace. And also your name is Alan, you should probably go back to your cubicle and work your crappy 9-5.
Been there! It sucked. But, we got through eventually. Scary storms

I was stormed out of the Colorado trail this time last year - it was the worst!

This was around July 25th 2021
Can you tell us what trails you used on your route? I’m planning a trip as I’m typing this and this route looks awesome!
