Buffalo Mountain // Climbing and Skiing Silver Couloir
Silver Couloir is listed as one of the 50 classic ski descents of north america and rightly so. If you've ever been to summit county, you've likely seen this line. Locals look at it every day, and it gets hundreds of descents each season due to its proximity to town and its prominent and eye catching appearance. Michael and I have been looking up at this line our entire lives and finally got the chance to ski it after getting back from school on the east coast. It was an absolute blast of a day until I became the mayor of bonk city climbing back out of the valley.

Longs Peak // Running Colorado's Deadliest 14er
มุมมอง 283ปีที่แล้ว
Longs peak is one of the most popular 14ers in colorado and the only one in Rocky Mountain National Park. It also happens to be somewhat technical past the iconic "Keyhole" formation and exceptionally long, coming in around 14 miles round trip. Because of the combination of ease of access and technical difficulty, it is one of the deadlier peaks in the state, seeing a heightened number of rescu...
The Citadel // A Hidden Gem of the Colorado Front Range
มุมมอง 539ปีที่แล้ว
The Citadel is easily visible from I-70 near the tunnel and more so from Loveland pass. The peak has very little beta and despite its accessibility, has no official trails to the top. Classic ski descents form in the saddle known as "Snoopy's Collar" due to the mountain looking like snoopy laying on his doghouse. On this little adventure, Michael and I followed what trails we could and had a lo...
Stein Glacier // Running, Biking, and Hiking to a Swiss Alpine Hut
มุมมอง 303ปีที่แล้ว
Elias and I awake in his van in a small swiss town with the goal of doing something big. We were near a large glacier in switzerland so we decided to make the ascent as hard as possible without the use of ropes or ice tools. To do this, we decided to take the scenic approach and end our day at the hut adjacent to the glacier. We are aware of some of the considerable risks we took upon crossing ...
Tre Cime di Lavaredo // Circumnavigating One of the Worlds Most Iconic Peaks
มุมมอง 324ปีที่แล้ว
Tre Cime di Lavaredo is a national park in the Dolomites of northern Italy. The group of mountains is one of the most recognizable peaks in the world and as a result of this is extremely tourist heavy. I ran a 6 mile loop around the peaks getting amazing views from all angles and dodging throngs of day hikers along the way. The trail was extremely easy but the views were next level. stay tuned ...
Pisciadù Via Ferrata // High Exposure in the Dolomites
มุมมอง 1.3Kปีที่แล้ว
Pisciadu is a well known mountain in the Dolomites, close to Cortina, Italy. This route contains what many consider to be classic via ferrata features like iron bars and high exposure. In places you can look down and see over a thousand feet of air. This route was done with my sister and my friend Elias from Germany. Unpredictable weather and a late start had us cautiously looking at the sky an...
Sass de Stria // Exploring a WWI Battlefield in the Italian Alps
มุมมอง 406ปีที่แล้ว
Sass de Stria, also known as Hexenstein, is a series of trenches and fortifications built into a mountain by Austria-Hungary during World War 1. The tunnels go deep into the mountain and are the easiest path to the top. While this was not a challenging climb, the views were still very impressive and the experience of being in such a historically significant place was also very cool. I started b...
Piccola Cir // Via Ferrata in the Dolomites
มุมมอง 2.7Kปีที่แล้ว
The Italian Dolomites are known for their exaggerated steepness and overall awesomeness. In this video, my sister, my friend Elias from Germany, and myself ascend a relatively easy Via Ferrata to the peak of a granite tower in the Dolomites. A Via Ferrata is a series of iron bars and cables that the user clips into with a harness to prevent deadly falls while climbing. This is far simpler and f...
Esjan // Trail Running in Iceland
มุมมอง 548ปีที่แล้ว
Esja, or Esjan is a mountain range that is very prominent from Iceland's capital city Reykjavik. It has a distinctly flat top and is a relatively easy ascent with stellar views of the bay. As we were only in Iceland for two days, we opted for something close to Reykjavik and easily accessible without a rental car. This turned out to be a pretty good bang for our buck, as the mountain was beauti...
Grays Peak // Skiing a Front Range Classic
มุมมอง 1.2Kปีที่แล้ว
Greys Peak is one of the most popular 14ers in Colorado. People flock to the trailhead throughout the summer due to its accessibility and proximity to Denver. In the winter and spring months, it is less congested, but plenty full of people aiming to bootpack steep couloirs and ski some of the best variety of backcountry lines close to Denver. It is a breeding ground for amatuer ski mountaineers...
Mt. Shavano // Skiing the Angel
มุมมอง 955ปีที่แล้ว
The angel of Shavano is a well defined Colorado classic. It sits in the saddle of Mt. Shavano and makes the shape of an angel with wings, hence the name. The ski descent is overall mellow but a really fun time for some late spring action.
Silverton Mountain // Bulletproof Snow on Steep Terrain
มุมมอง 873ปีที่แล้ว
Silverton Mountain is not your average ski area. Day passes are limited and skiing is guided only. You must wear an avalanche beacon and carry a probe and shovel. All terrain is served by one lift and up to an hour hike, or by helicopter. There are no groomers and all terrain is rated expert or above. Our day at Silverton came just after significant windstorms in the area, meaning the snow was ...
Huron Peak // the Best Views of the Sawatch Mountains
มุมมอง 3332 ปีที่แล้ว
Having read almost no beta or so much as looked at the route, my girlfriend Sophie and I ran the northern collegiate 14er, Huron Peak. Belize // Snorkeling In the Barrier Reefs

We swam in the warm Caribbean waters and travelled from island to island in search of fish, coral, and treasure, not having fo...
Missouri Mountain // Early Morning in the Saguache Range
มุมมอง 3132 ปีที่แล้ว
In this daytrip Jake and I attempt the Missouri/Belford/Oxford trifecta, ultimately resulting in us getting scared of the weather and finishing with only Missouri. The day was very laid back, making for a good day out. Jake had an eventful day, as he vomited, got very cold fingers, and had to change his trucks tire using the 24 year old spare.

You guys should stay out of the wilderness. You are not man enough to see this rare beauty. I've done 18 trips into the Wyoming Wilderness. Colorado is easy country. Stay home boys.

I was 16. The wilderness happens to be for everyone. 18 is not a lot of trips and wyoming has its ups and downs, same as Colorado. Keep getting out there though! Maybe one day you'll be as experienced as you think you are.

Shut up Alan. You don’t own the wilderness pal. Your probably complaining about him going in the wilderness because your homeless and are bothered about people disturbing your peace. And also your name is Alan, you should probably go back to your cubicle and work your crappy 9-5.

Great video first of all. Love the music pick and all the angles were great. I am curious though, how come nobody shows a good video of the process going up from 3 to 4? at the crux of the climb onto 4. It seems that is the most difficult route finding part but nobody really shows it. It would be awesome to see a how to. haha

came here from Reddit - great video! My reactions and thoughts watching this, as a Coloradan backpacker myself: the wildflowers seem to be peaking in Silverton - when was this trip? How committed were you to wearing a long sleeve layer instead of sunscreening? Absolutely loved the transition from "we're going to bushwack" to finding yourself in the middle of those waist high bushes that are so hard to push out of the way.

    • @TheStandardApproach

Thanks! This was late July of 2021, we just happened to hit a really bad weather window. I believe the long sleeve was because it was pretty cold that morning due to some rain the day before.

    • @TheStandardApproach
      @TheStandardApproach 2 ปีที่แล้ว

We started from Silverton on cr #33, then picked up the whitehead trail #674 about 4 miles in which is hard to follow in places and involves about a mile of bushwhacking. Then we followed it up to Verde lake and intercepted the ct/cdt. Dude to the weather we bailed at cr #3 at canby mountain but had planned to follow it all the way to camp trail #476. The total route was around 40 miles. I would recommend going earlier in the summer to avoid the afternoon storms which can get extremely bad in this area. Hope this helps!
