- They're colorful, they're pretty, and they're quick. But this insect has got to go. It's the invasive spotted lanternfly, and parts of New Jersey have been divided into quarantine zones to try to contain the bugs. Now they're popping up all across our area, even in Manhattan.
So why are they a problem? And where did they come from? And what should you do if you see one?

I love Dr. ware! I saw her in a clip some months ago about cicadas and now on this one, she’s got such a beautiful energy to her and you can tell she’s genuinely passionate about entomology. She just seems like one of those genuinely super nice people!

If you can't reach the lantern fly, use anything like Windex to zap them & they fall and you can kill them. They tend to jump so a spray of even hair spray will temporarily disable them so you can kill them.
I live in Brooklyn New York Flatbush Avenue I saw one the other day
They've been here in Port Jefferson Long Island for months. The woods here are invested with them. You think we would've got a warning. Aside of this the stink bug problem is out of control.

I’m from Jersey and had a trip out to York Pennsylvania last weekend and they are everywhere. I tried to take a picture of one and buy the time I hit the button, it was gone!

Place equal parts Pinesole and water in a plastic container and leave it outside or take dishwashing liquid and do the same thing.
Lewisberry pa is where they're at. Fed-ex, Chewy and Amazon. Look at the sidewalks...they're covered with dead lanternflys

Winter kills them but the eggs survives.

Scientists create infertile mosquitoes so Is it possible work on spotted lanternfly in future?
People stomping them individually won’t make a dent. The adults will die in winter but their egg masses will survive. Professional exterminators in every infested area are needed or spring and summer of 2023 will be a nightmare and huge devastation to trees and landscapes.
Pennsilvania is fully of this bugs☹️

How to kill them..
1. Grab a spray bottle that shoots a straight stream.
2. Fill it 1/5 with dishwashing soap
3. One spoon of some type of food oil (optional)
4. Fill the rest with water
4. Spray em and watch em instantly die!

@@timhallas4275 It gets on plants. Try dish liquid + cooking oil + a little water.
@@gy2gy246 The only plants my gasoline is getting on are the trees that the lantern flies use for food and to lay their eggs on.... so those are getting cut down anyway. Usually I cut them down first, and then spray the bugs. It's easier to get to them that way.
