I'm sorry you went through that, I know firsthand how scary it is. One time I was eating pozole and my throat just closed up and I tried to stay calm and it felt like so long but probably wasn't even a minute when I gasped in air. I was so shaky too. Glad you're okay! And you kept on eating like a champ!

Hi there... actually i experienced that already for 4 times. And i will never forget all those moments! I thought i was already gonna die and had some panic attacks. One more thing is I have acid reflux. So i highly suggest that you don't drink Cold water whenever you're eating hot, spicy and fatty foods. And eat slowly! I've watching your videos since you featured Filipino food. Again, always remember what i told you. And one Best tip "" drink hot water" first thing when you wake up to melt down fats that already built up in your throat while you were sleeping.

So glad you're ok! Got to be careful eating spicy foods. I nearly choked on a scotch bonnet pepper (445,000 SHU) and the same thing happened to me. It was so spicy that my airway just clamped shut. My friend just sat there laughing at me :
Anyway, some tips regarding hot pot: with the thin meats, the nest method to avoid over cooking is to dip it in the broth using your chopsticks and not letting go. Swish it around a few times and it's ready to eat. Don't let it sit in there otherwise it will lose all the flavour ans goodness.
With the balls and vegetables etc.....just throw them all in. If you put them in a few at a time, you don't really know which ones are cooked or not.
Always clear the broth of food before cooking anymore.
Finally, szechuan peppercorns are the ones that make your mouth numb - Chinese people LOVE it. Me, not so much. lol. So if you see anything that is labelled 'ma la', that's what it is.

It's called Laryngospasm.. that happened to me 3x after eating some strong Balsamic Vinegar. It's like dry drowning but the spasm lasts about a minute or less and you'd be able to breath again. It is a very scary feeling like you're dying.

When I saw the thumbnail 😳 I had a very terrifying flashback to 3 weeks ago.. I went to my first Hotpot restaurant and got a MILD spice soup base.. the flavor was AMAZING but once I went in for my very 1st spoonful MY THROAT CLOSED INSTANTLY! I JUMPED up and RAN around that restaurant like a chicken with its head chopped off... unable to speak, cough, choke, scream, NOTHING.. my throat was entirely CLOSED 🥺🤯😩 I forced ice water down somehow, even though I couldn’t get air in, I could get some water down. So bizarre and scary! Eventually the ice water opened up my airway enough so I felt like I was breathing through a tiny straw. I know that fear. I’m glad you’re okay! ❤️

When Latinos, say the chilies are hot, BELIEVE them!!! I lived in Mexico for 4 months and a lot of the food lit 🔥 my ass up. I had a chili and mushroom soup in Oaxaca that put me out of commission. Crazy, because my spice tolerance is pretty high too. I’m Bahamian!!

I love hotpot so much!! One of our local restaurants, LAN, does an amazing vegan one that is to die for!! Sichuan peppers do give the numbing sensations.
