  • How compatible are tattoos and Christian Beliefs? Are tattoos a sin? Other than Leviticus 19:28 the Bible is fairly mute on the subject. However, I offer some practical advice about tattoos that you may want to consider. Check out this minute video about tattoos and christian beliefs.

I call mine my stained glass window to my soul. I have three ribbons (domestic violence, mental health, and suicide awareness ribbons), the heart warrior symbol, and the cross. My granddaughter has had open heart surgery; my son has been struggling with mental health issues since he was a child; I've lost two relatives to suicide; I am a domestic violence survivor. What carries me and my family through it and keeps us strong is faith in Jesus Christ, my savior. I agree that tattoos should not be done without forethought.

Art and graffiti are not synonymous. Art is one of the things that makes God's creation so beautiful and wonderful. Graffiti is art that is against the law. If you see art painted by someone on another's property without permission, it is graffiti. If someone buys their own property and decides to paint art on it then it is not graffiti, it is art. The difference is consent. Sex in marriage is not wrong, but rape is wrong. The act is almost the same but one there is consent. Tattoos in the time when the word was written were not used with consent, it therefore was different. In those times, tattooing was to penalize slaves, criminals and prisoners of war. Today, we consent to art on our own property and it is so, not the same thing the bible is against.

But to fear division because of modern tattoos (the ones that dont brand you to idolise man or other gods) will only divide people more. In anyway even people who are with God may divide because the person decides they want to reject them for the small things. Not that its a good thing to do so. Jesus welcomed anyone and everyone to him even when they dont approve of him. He did not want division. Humanity did.

Never blame God for what humans choose when they choose against his word. A man may call on Gods name but without faith, he is blind. Religious people may be religious but do they have relationship with God? Do they understand what God wants them to do? If they reject someone thinking its for God then it would still be against what God wants because God would never do that.

My tattoos have reasons. Two of them are bible verses. Theyre for me personally to be reminded for life. Not style. Theyre even on my arms so i could see them. Another tattoo is my beloved furry friend's names who will one day pass. And another is just to distract a condition i have which is where my hands look aged than the rest of my body. Tattoos arent always because someone wanted to keep up with trends. Something permanent should be thought through. If my tattoos ever shrivel or fade with my skin then it will be my choice to let them be or freshen it.

I like that you're not quick to condemn. However, I'm a convert that got many tattoos before and as my conversion has progressed and I'm further removed from the environments that were my normal, I couldn't help but notice how tattoo popularity goes hand in hand with the rise of neo-paganism. If what Scripture forbids in substance is for us to engage in pagan practices, then tattoo prohibition should still be relevant for how tattoo culture goes in the west.
The other argument I make is that tattoos are simply a socially accepted way of mut!lation. We get worried when a teenager harms by cutting. Tattoos are the sophisticated "grown up" (though not mature) version of that.
I'm thankful people aren't scandalized by my presence in Church every week but I don't it is healthy to not adress the depth of what trends, specially aesthetic trends are manifesting. I messed it up for a number of factors but hopefully things can be better for younger people. Hopefully we can give them loving clarity.

Guys, there is only one answer to this: Connection with the Holy Spirit. When there’s connection, there’s intimacy and relationship, and when you have those components, God speaks. The Bible clearly speaks to honor God with our body which is the temple of the Holy Spirit AND that we were bought with a heavy price. This body I’m in isn’t mine and I have no right to do something that doesn’t belong to me, which all things belong to God. This is something I’ve felt for a while. The spirit will guide and give you conviction of what is and is not right. But then again, no relationship with God, no revelation from the heavens. God bless you guys

Tattoos in that time were used to penalize slaves, criminals and prisoners of war. So when the word was written tattoos were put on others against their consent. Consent is what makes it different. Similar to how sex in marriage is consented and not a sin but sex without consent = rape is a sin. Get it ? Consent is the difference. He missed a lot of understanding about this restriction. All of True God's rules, regulations, principles, righteous standards are always to be considered from every angle because True God never changes and never abrogated the underlying principles of the Mosaic Law. While it's true Christians are not bound by the Mosaic Law, Jesus said he was not present to abolish the law but to fulfill it. Many things in the Law, such as tattoos, were not subject to questioning God about in the ancient times, they were required to exercise faith and obey it. You will notice in context tattoos are associated with uncleanness. These were hygiene rules. Modern medicine tells today of the dangers of touching a dead body because of the bacteria. Most Bible accts frown on unnecessary risk taking. No matter how clean tattooing methods are today, there is still the risk of blood poisoning or other infection that could kill. The law of True God is perfect and that is why no human can fulfill it in it's entirety the way Jesus did. That is why also Jesus told the Pharisees that the prostitutes and tax collectors were going into the kingdom ahead of them because they repented at what John (the Baptist) preached.

Yes but people that's far from Christ do need to hear a reasoned approach to it. God gave us reson to use it well. We were sent to make people disciples, that means teaching them. Particularly in videos made for formation and evangelization, to be just blunt would be irresponsible. People with tattoos need to know they are not condemned as long as they sin no more, but they first need to know they can rest in Jesus, then, if they are honest, they'll let God change them 🙂

It is debatable because of the history behind it. Knowing the theology alone without also studying the history of the time it was written is what makes the difference. The word is in reference to what they considered a tattoo in those times, which is vastly different from what a tattoo is today. Same name albeit, different things.

Beyond tattoos or not tattoos, you were already connected to your family. You share memories, you inherited their features. Adopted children too inherit features from their families, and being Christianity is about the spirit becoming flesh, you existing was and is the only connection needed towards your ancestors. You are the manifestation of your family connecting. A tattoo might express a sentiment and such but your existence IS the connection to your family.

The word is in reference to what they considered a tattoo in those times, which is vastly different from what a tattoo is today. Same name albeit, different things. Tattoos in that time were used to penalize slaves, criminals and prisoners of war. So when the word was written tattoos were put on others against their consent. Consent is what makes it different. Art and graffiti are not synonymous. Graffiti is specifically art without consent. Art with consent is fine. Similar to how sex in marriage is consented and not a sin but sex without consent = rape is a sin. Get it ? Consent is the difference. Jesus works through his people, he comes to his people and saves his people and often times, those people experiencing Christ have tattoos. I'll take experience over assumption.♡
