Concerning the exhaust smoke, that was the original engine. Since this video was produced, the entire drive train has been replaced with rebuilt components, including a new electronically controlled 6L71 TA (turbocharged/after cooled) engine with Jake brake, cruise control and all the modern features. 47busguy

K554 is a beautiful piece of work; it is also a "sleeper." I wasn't expecting such a beautiful and modern interior. The woodwork is beautifully done. At the end, when the coach is driving away, is pure Detroit diesel, smoke and all. The four on the tree is also nice to see retained. I drove 4104s an 4107s back in the 70s but missed the last of the Silvers by about three months - a huge disappointment. Well done! Thanks!

I remember playing hockey , the bus was a silver side Greyhound . Our team was from Edmonton and we traveled back and forth to Calgary. We went all the way to game seven and lost the1972 peewee A Provincial championship . But I still remember the sound and the reflections of that old bus, nice work on this one. Thank you for sharing.

While the restoration of that coach is superb repowering it with an electronic engine if that was mine it would retain the original 6-71 Detroit Diesel. A beautiful restoration like this coach has gone through doesn't need a new engine.
A rebuilt 6-71 with jake brakes would be just fine albeit a little slow climbing mountain passes. In order to repower with a new engine you'd need a new rear end in order to handle the higher power from the new engine.
Better to stick with an original power train.

Outstanding job on the resto/conversion. Not sure how that interior would stand up to the weekend outdoor warrior but still an awesome piece of machinery.

one critique is the fridge.... It would have been nicer if you fitted the bus with a more vintage looking fridge. The modern fridge sticks out like a sore thumb amidst that beautiful trim.

unbelievable attention to detail! serious skills. come on, I know you probably wanna stick to original, but you gotta update to Alcoa wheels! I love these older Greyhound buses... I personally wouldn't like this older type to be chosen, but just fucken impressive work!👍

Yeah. The only thing that I would have changed would have been to hide the flat screen TV behind a panel. That way they could have kept the 1940's look.

As beautiful as this project is, I would quibble with the use of the term "restoration". Precious little of the interior is as it was originally, save for the steering wheel. Rather, it is a high grade "conversion". Also, I would have to concur with the poster who mentioned that the Art Deco motif is not chronologically accurate with the period, however attractive it may be. My late father drove for Greyhound from 1947 thru 1977, and this model "Jimmy" was among the first he drove. Their interior appointments were, shall we say, Spartan! I still have his Pacific Greyhound Lines cap/badge, identical to the one shown in the video. Certainly, the fate of this Silverside is to be preferred over the alternative of it languishing, before being sent to the junkyard! Thanks for the memories!

Concerning the comments about the microwave convection oven; you can cook nearly anything in a convection that you can in a regular oven. For cooktops, portable induction units are used that take far less energy. Also use portable BBQ. All bases are covered. This is a camper, not a full time live aboard.

What? No LP range? That microwave would get left at the curb. Some junk food family won the lottery on that one. What a waste with those bunks. 1947 was a more simple period after the war, and art deco was from the 30's, so the styling is somewhat out of synch. But who would expect lottery winners to know that?

    • @toscodav
