I installed Remote ID but I attached it with Boeing bolts so it may not be there when the FAA shows up.

I’m a commercial pilot, but I haven’t flown in a few years due to an illness. I love flying little RC planes especially WWII replicas and EDF jets. Almost none of them are over 250g and I typically only fly around treetop to maybe 20 feet above treetop level. A few years ago it was a rule that you had to inform any airport within a certain radius of your flying area that you were planning to fly. I called an Air Force Base near me and told them I was flying this little foamy RC plane and they asked how high, and I told them. They were like “WTF, why are you telling us this?” I told them it was a requirement of the FAA and they told me, (as I already knew), that any REAL airplane flying as low as my RC plane had WAY more to worry about than my plane, things like trees, houses, power lines, etc…

I totally agree. I want to get into the hobby. Why should I inform an airport about my plane. What pilot (actual plane) is going to be flying over treetops, that's insane, unless your a crop duster. Omg. Hey FAA these are toys, not actuals.

I’ve been a pilot for more than 3 decades: part 135, 121 and now 91 corporate. I grew up on the “bad side” of my home city and attended public schools where many of my classmates spent their youth getting into trouble. I became fascinated with aviation at a very young age and my saving grace was model aviation, getting my first plane (CG Eaglet) at 12. I spent much of my youth from that point on in the basement building planes or at the flying field, where ever that happened to be - mostly behind a rural school. I’m confident this is what kept me out of trouble and led me to an amazing career. It’s very sad to see what’s been done to our hobby.

Being a former, 13 years, FAA employee I feel you are being nice in your use of the word 'ludicrous' towards the FAA bureaucracy. It is a shame the AMA rolled over to the faa. I wrote my objections to the AMA twice knowing full well they aren't listening, just like the FAA. I am a FAA Certificated Pilot and FAA Certified Aircraft Maintenance Technician (A&P), with an IA Rating for many years and still own my own plane. Notice I used the term Certificated because the word license isn't in the FARS. The point is too many people DON'T do their homework in advance and listen to the power mongers that don't give an iota about us real AMERICANS. They are only concerned about their unholy paychecks...

Amazon, FedEx or anybody else will NEVER deliver packages with Drones. The size of Drone required to deliver a small package that weighs only 4 pounds will have to be pretty large. WHEN, not IF, but WHEN one of those large Drones fall from the sky and hit somebody, you’re looking at massive law Suits. The drone will only be able to drop the package in the front yard. Not up on the porch. They will be using the Best equipment available, so when a kid orders something and it’s delivered, the kid throws a blanket over the Drone and keeps all the parts. Amazon just lost another Drone.

Pursuant to the 9th and 10th Amendments, US Constitution, the federal government cannot assume powers not specifically granted to it by the Constitution. There has never been a constitutional amendment establishing the FAA in the US, until that happens, it is my position that the FAA has no constitutional authority over the actions of any private citizen. Congress cannot grant the FAA power, that Congress itself does not have under the US Constitution. Assuming that the FAA is constitutional, it does not have the authority regulate the privately owned air space that reaches the enveloping atmosphere of a persons real property, anymore than having the authority to regulate the airspace within ones home. The US Supreme Court has ruled, a landowner owns as much of the space above the ground as he can occupy or use in connection with the land. Flying a quadcopter around and above privately own trees, buildings, animals, or any other object owned, controlled, and connected to the property, is clearly an activity that is done in direct connection with the use of the land. Privately owned airspace is as much a property right as anything else attached to the property. The government cannot take possession of privately owned airspace and tell a landowner how privately owned airspace can, or cannot be used, without due process of law. As I posted before, the United States Supreme Court ruled, “We have said that the airspace is a public highway. Yet it is obvious that, if the landowner is to have full enjoyment of the land, he must have exclusive control of the immediate reaches of the enveloping atmosphere. . . . . The landowner owns at least as much of the space above the ground as they can occupy or use in connection with the land.” States v. Causby, 328 U.S. 256 (1946) Example: A private model aviation club, on private land, has a constitutionally protected right to use the private airspace on that land as it deems fit. It is also my position, that this applies to human personal space as well. That space that surrounds each person occupying a public space. Those persons have a right to use as much of the space above the ground as they can occupy or use in connection with that public space, as long as it can be done without violating another person’s life, liberty, or property.

Sliders are just like another "Stick" - I never use them, but they can control a surface, like a rudder, or some such thing, but I don't see that being a good way to do it. I think some people will use them for flaps and something they want analog control over, rather than a digital switch, which might even be limited to 2 or 3 positions, while the slider can offer infinite positions.
I don't care about this too, but it's nice to have it if I want to setup something strange in the future....what I DO want, is the additional channels. This is what most of us NEED.

We had a small 600 feet x 75 feet runway asphalt runway installed. Our nearest neighbors are 3 miles away and we are 50 miles from the nearest airport. We then took all the steps the FAA required when applying for a FRIA status and after waiting for almost a year, we were granted an FRIA status. Brian, for over 45 years I hold a private pilot certicate with an instrument rating. For 20 years I was the sole owner and operator of a Piper Cherokee 180. I have not had a medical since 2003. I am new to rc aircraft in the past 4 years, since Covid. Before I stopped flying most aircraft had transponders, which only provided your 2D position to ATC. To fly IFR it made sense to have mode C, which also relayed your altitude to ATC. At that time there was no requirement to have a transponder or mode C. It only limited your access to certain classes of airspace. Today, the requirement is I believe mode S which allows nearby aircraft to know where and at what altitude nearby aircraft are, beyond just ATC having that data. I have no idea how that system is designed to work.
The rc club that I belong to has just received FRIA authorization for both of it’s sites. To read and try to understand what had been proposed and new rules and regulations, even through the AMA, magazine, has been confusing and difficult, at best. I never understood how this ID system works. From what you said, individual flight data is gathered by satellite. I am still assuming that nearby full scale aircraft will be able to see positions and altitudes of nearby rc aircraft and drones. This sounds to me to be a very complex system and subject to interruptions and failures.
Keep up the good work. I think the FAA has gone too far also.

I have spent hours searching for downed planes in fields. With this technology, I can walk straight to it. As an added bonus, I get ground speed, altitude (in either AGL or MSL), distance from me, and location on my transmitter now. I can record my flight and go back and review it later for max speed runs. I have bought one for all of my planes. So there isn't any swapping modules between planes.

    1. You don't have to comply since the FAA is not a law making body but only an agency.
    2. You can double check Federal published and mandated laws in the Federal Register to see where this law is going.
    3. As an American, none of the public that enjoy recreational RC flying consented and pursued legislative action to create a law that we want RID.
    4. Whoever is the congressman that got paid to push and lobby this BS so it can be manifested by FAA and bypass the paperwork, should be looked into.
    5. It's our job as citizens to mitigate money-grab tactics of Federal agencies for financial gain, to check the power and balances of our government(We're not supposed to give them more money).
    6. This rule and regulation is not heavily enforced, it's what's called a "probe" because it's still testing out the waters as a regulation to see if the government can garnish money through such fines, and fund the FAA at the same time. This is also to test out how many citizens would comply to this, and if they see many complies then heavy enforcement follows next.
    7. Your last option is to be chowd, pull your pants down, and comply, because citizens are so scared to go to jail and would rather have a Fed Agency extort more money through creating more fines and fear-mongering tactics.

Hi Brian & Camera Crew. I share the frustration. Thx for the education. I’ve been zeitgeisted long ago. Can I update my DX6e without the registering? I’m also uncertain how to know to me certain my Safe & AS3X on my UMX A-10 that’s too pretty to not have my first good tx. I’ve been flying rtf’s for a long time. Spekrtum tutorials have helped but I’m not sure how to be certain I’ve got it right. Hope you have some advice that would assure me they’re set up or calibration. ✌🏽

My question is this. Are they making model rockets comply? There is not an engine available that's under 500 grams. If we have to comply, they should have to comply.

I agree with your philosophy with respect to RID requirements but not with the Spektrum RID solution. I I bought a Holy Stone module for use at a local school property where I have permission to fly. It's FAA-approved, self-contained and independent of the aircraft and its electronics. The internal battery is good for about 4 hours and can be recharged off a USB charger using a supplied cable. All you need in the aircraft is a small Velcro patch. No need to connect to anything in the aircraft. It's also $10 cheaper than the Spektrum version.

I do spray my Bonsai tree with my UMX Tractor. Thank you camera crew; I pay myself to myself and have no contracts at present but looking forward to a getting a contract from myself to myself and hence UMX commercial... We don't have a name yet but thank you camera crew and thank you Brian because maybe I'll unbox my E-flite A10 with the twin 64mm EDFs. I do not want the wrong cop walking up on my maiden if I... probably won't do it till summer 2025 but thank god you put this warning up

Our world seems to be going to pot, but what are we to do about it...there's no more habitable land masses to invade, unless you like a lot of snow - LOL - but seriously...guess we'll just have to wait until Elon gets the first few loads of the craziest people to mars. I think the FAA should go first, to make it SAFE ;) (But seriously...Mars + RC - DEADLY...we need RID on mars!!!!!!!)

Not many people will comply. This is absurd. I ca understand maybe for those guys flying turbines that cost 20 or 30 grand. The range of airspace required to fly one of those intrudes actual airspace vital for commercial aviation. I totally understand that. But for the average homeowner in the country like me, it's not a hazard. I'm very safe and aware of all full-scale aircraft flying overhead. I usually land when I hear an EMT chopper coming. If all new toy airplanes are required to be manufactured with this ID they are not gonna be able to sell many of them. I'll get out of the hobby before I participate in this communist crap! I fly full-scale anyway and ADSB isn't a requirement for airplanes where I live and fly. And Don't give me this crap that horizon is not making any profit from selling these remote id's. No company can give shit away. That's a bald face lie! If they try to enforce this it will be the end of the hobby because not enough "sheep" out here to comply with this crap! Horizon and the other manufacturers are mostly to blame for not fighting this harder 10 yrs ago. They should have said no up front. They need to worry about keeping wheels from falling off 777s and doors from falling off737s instead of harassing honest hard working taxpayers!

Also one more question is about the battery size. I see on the package it says any battery 3.5 to 9 volts. Ok I got that but it also says you can connect it to the bind plug on the receiver and power it that way? Ok but it does not mention if the battery is a 6S then to me its way over the voltage limit but again Spektrum does not say any info on this connection and voltage limit, can you just plug it into the bind prot on the receiver and your good to go no matter what battery? your not going to fry the module?

  • @FalconWing1813

I second another persons post. Just power it up on the ground where you are standing and set it off to the side. Go fly. They will still know you are flying in that area. If there is a plane that actually has the equipment to pickup the signal and they are flying that low, they will have other things to worry about , like a near by Cell phone tower. lol lol

I’m with ya. I got a Sky ID module and went to register it at “Drone Zone” but I just can’t do it. Why? Because my fixed wing, line of sight, non automatic flying toys are NOT drones! And The FAA does not have the right to my address, phone and cash to track my flying toys! Oh…yes you can just buy one module BUT you have to remove the wing of each plane each time to install the government tracking device and that can lead to crashes. I have written the FAA repeatedly and also the AMA asking what they are doing about this. I may have a new TH-cam video soon of an FAA induced multiple RC airplane bonfire.
